It's a little more than an honor to have Gavin Handley from Jus Like Music contribute to our Substitute Teachers series. The label started out as a blog, and eventually blossomed into a roster of forward thinking artists who are currently pushing the boundaries of what electronic music can be. He also co-hosts a fantastic radio show on NTS that showcases his phenomenal taste in music. This mix consists entirely of Jus Like Music releases, and all of these artists have material that you must [...]

Bridging the gap between Juke and Jungle has been the modus operandi for these two producers for a significant portion of their careers. Machinedrum (above) explored the link on 'Boom' EP and Om Unit did the same as Philip D. Kick, so it seems only logical they pool their resources. As Dream Continuum they will be releasing 'Reworkz' EP, a three-track record that looks to the golden age of hardcore and jungle for inspiration, through Planet Mu on March 26. You can preorder your copy of 'Reworkz' [...]

Berlin-based experimental producer Machinedrum (aka Travis Stewart) and London DJ Om Unit (aka Jim Coles) have united under the aptly chosen moniker Dream Continuum . Brought together through their passion for fusing mid-90's euphoric Jungle and Footwork, the duo's debut EP, dubbed Reworkz , is set to drop March 6th via Planet Mu . The three-track EP is a quickly moving collection of rhythmic sub-bass, pitch-bending Jungle samples, and high impact snare patterns. The Reworkz EP can be pre-ordered and streamed in its entirety here . The tracklist follows. [...]
Soundcrash presents an epic lineup for electronic music heads this March. Teebs, Samiyam, Lapalux, Om Unit and Young Montana? will be taking over Shoreditch's Village Underground in a London –... [[ This is a content summary only. Visit my website for full links, other content, and more! ]]

Photo by Jeri Rafter [ Civil Music ] Even though Jim Coles has shifted from the turntablist works he produced under the name 2tall to the electronic music of current project Om Unit, there are interesting threads that run through his work. His beats still flow soulfully, his melodies are still lush, and the thick bass lines bubble and swagger. Perhaps [...]

Wobble Wednesday is here again! Welcome back! If you're not already familiar with Wobble Wednesday, that's okay - we want to make your first time amazing. Most of what you'll be listening to here is often referred to as dubstep, but can encompass all genres of heavy bass music. To quote bass music artist ill.Gates, "When you look at what some of the bigger dubstep guys are doing now, they'll play some dubstep, they'll play some drumstep, they'll plays some breaks, some drum and bass, and maybe some dance hall." That's what Wobble Wednesday is all about. [...]

Well if you were living under a rock and missed any of Om Unit's brilliant 2011 releases, here's a rather tasty mix courtesy of Kid Kameleon that should bring you right up to date. Showcasing the producer's brilliant talent for dodging pigeonholes and taking in elements of electro, dubstep, IDM and most other electronic music genres, each track is more than worthy of its space on the mix with absolutely no fillers. 01. How was 2011 for you? 2011 was a good year for us despite some early set backs. Initially our album was signed to Soul:R, but unfortunately that fell through. We then decided to set up our own label called None60 Records. It took a while to get things moving, but we released our album at the end of October. Highlights? Releasing our album and having Calibre, Marcus Intalex and Om Unit do remixes for us. Three of our favorite acts, and a great way to start our label. [...]
Happy Holidays from Earmilk.com. As a Christmas freebie Om Unit gives out his most wub bass remix of Krampfhaft 's I Needed You . The female vocal at the start blends the snares and claps with ease as the dragged out pad breaks the plane. A Holy Other side-chained vocal comes in and then we get the Wub. This should be the perfect jam to keep all that ham and turkey down. Free Download Santa Likes to Skank a bit. [...]

If I had a chance to put up a festival, it would probably look something like Utrecht's Le Guess Who? . Usually, seeing a festival means running from show to show and getting lost between a couple of huge (outdoor) stages. Here, you get to enjoy the artist's performance in some really cool indoor venues. Add a kickass line-up, a beautiful small town and a great atmosphere and you get a charming festival definitely worth visiting. SATURDAY Fool's Gold were the first band I saw on the festival [...]
Je désespérais de trouver quelque chose à admirer ce soir, avant le spectacle d'un dragon hybride qui nage dans les eaux de Miami.Om Unit - Swimming Dragon

Saturday, day three of Le Guess Who? provides probably its most diverse as we run from A (Winged Victory For The Sullen) to Z(omby). Returning to Ekko for the tearjerkingly stunning A Winged Victory For The Sullen , Adam Wiltzie and Dustin O'Halloran exhume "seven songs about dead people and broken hearts." A tripartite Amsterdam ensemble occupy stage-centre, the impetus on the neoclassical nature of the duo's lavish compositional mastery. We soon sit. Not in protest, but in order that we may fully revel in understated grandeur, in deferential appreciation. For every [...]

UK bass-alchemist Om Unit has been on every good music journalist's pages for most of the year, releasing an impressive amount of music in 2011. Well, he's back yet again with another EP, this time called 'Transport'. The new EP straddles a number of different styles within the Bass spectrum, from UK Funky to Dubstep to IDM, all resting under the "future bass" umbrella. As a little taster for fans, he's offered up the track 'Swimming Dragon' from the new EP for free download. Download the free track below and [...]
With Civil Music lining up the quality releases of late (the new Drums of Death and Darling Farah EPs in particular have been picking up plenty of play at the Labs), this EP from Om Unit could almost have slipped under the radar. No chance of that however as the London producer delivers some of his best work to date. The EP's press release describes his material as "mechanical soul" and for me, that perfectly sums up his unique skill of wrapping the most human of melodies and lead lines [...]
