image from here On any given day I will get close to 50 emails related to this blog. The emails come from record labels, promo companies and sometimes directly from various bands. Now, don't get me wrong, I am not complaining here. In fact, I am thankful that they come because I get introduced to what is new out in music land. And that is a good thing. The only problem I do have is the feeling that I am not doing my end of the bargain. Which is, properly reading them and [...]

Every once in a blue moon, we notice a pattern developing with the artists featured on MML and make an attempt to organize somewhat of a quick reference guide for those who may have just stumbled upon our little music blog. In May 2007, we presented the Shoe(gaze) Cupboard which was a compilation of artists who create music from a particular genre we love. Following the internet(s) attention
[Segueness is a curious random occurrence where two tunes ultimately beat as one] Fujiya & Miyagi are a three piece from Brighton on the cusp of setting their new album 'Transparent Things' on the world. They cite Serge Gainsbourg as a major influence. Funny that as OMR are a French duo that sport a Kate Radley like being in Virginie Krupa. OMR's smouldering sound did not exactly set the world

(OMR, 22/2/06, photo by PokeYoke ) Us Rosbif's have a love/hate relationship with the Frogs. We love their food, we love buying their rundown houses for our holiday homes, we love Thierry Henry . We hate the fact that they're French and look down their noses at everybody, despite being in no position to judge that sort of thing ourselves. However, we are in a position to judge their music, because for the most part it's fairly embarrassing. There are a few luminaries (Serge Gainsbourg, Françoise Hardy), and they [...]

Music to me is not only an aural experience but a visual one as well. That visual element is one where the mind goes immediately to a previous feeling (or a new feeling) evoking an array of images. At least for me that is how I judge whether something musically really moves me. The images can range across the board; happy, sad, frustrating, unhappy, you get the idea. The brain is a very complex organ; one that takes millions (or even billions) of stimuli and in a matter of nano-seconds produces various responses in the body. An amazing, utterly fantastic [...]

The other week French duo OmR 's second record Superheroes Crash dropped through my letterbox. And I thought, hallelujah, I love getting free things in the post. It's really satisfying. Much like the record itself. It's very French; sensual, knowing, vaguely profound in a slightly incomprehensible way and wears a polo-neck jumper. A black polo-neck jumper. You get a good idea of what they sound like from the album cover, bizarrely enough. From their bio: Formed by Virginie Krupa and Alexandre Bravelli, OMR is a perfect duo: [...]

No...nothing special happened in the last few hours. But if you follow this blog you will recognize that something changed. Two reasons: First: The Russian airplane museum near the airport of Riga/Latvia. Second: The record "Superhero Crash" by the french band OMR. Some things don't belong together Walking through the area of the airplane museum was very impressing. Even when this place was called museum it was more like visiting a slaughterhouse. In former times heroes of an world power air force were banned on the ground [...]
We get a lot of albums sent our way at Harmonium, and we do our damnedest to listen fully to each and every one. But given the limited number of hours in the day, we can't always get to a full review in a timely fashion, which is a shame since that means a fair number of great artists slip through the cracks.
Okay, I'm usually of the opinion that having an acronym as a band name is a generally bad idea, but I'll make some exceptions here. Although, I do think we should all at least remember the whole Boyz II Men, ABC, BBD ("the east coast family") fiasco of '91. Let's just say that it wasn't a coincidence the two acronym laden members of the family faded into obscurity while roman numeral sporting dorks became annoyingly famous. Just saying. * * * * * OHM - Spoon [...]
