Did I ever tell yall how I get through every week? In the past I've said it's Mashup Monday, and yeah, sure that's a bit of it. The music certainly serves as a pick me up. But let's get really personal for a second. The real way I get through the week is because of this little piece of paper on my wall in my bathroom that my sister made me. It's called "Why We LOVE Weekdays!" Every day has a reason to love that day week after week. Mondays call for a fresh start. So when Monday rolls around, [...]
Mashup Mondays have been going on for 47 weeks as of today. You realize how close that is to a year, right? Well, damn. For those of us who don't have the attention span of a goldfish ( RIP Pigeon ), this is good news. For any who think of mash ups and have no reaction other than a strong craving for mashed potatoes, you are probably either resenting these posts every Monday or reading a book on Friday night when you should be at the bar, neither of which is recommended. Enough ranting, let's get to [...]
This month's best of the blogosphere post is dominated by dubstep, synth laden dance, and filter disco. I've been gearing up for a series of disco sets, so that might be why I'm feeling it more - hip hop has taken a bit of a backseat for me over the last three weeks, despite my trip down to NYC for Rock The Bells. My favourite song I heard this month is, by far, the new Miami Horror track Holidays - I fully expect this will be one of my favourite jams of the year, and an anthem for my fall. [...]

I want to introduce you to two guys with a lot of talent as musicians who have a lofty goal: To get the world to appreciate electro, dubstep, and nudisco. Aptly named On The Rise , two sophomores at Bucknell University are quickly gaining attention and picking up fans at every show they rock. They're playing some of the hottest and unique dubstep/electro/indie mashups every weekend at parties all over the Northwest. They have even booked east coast gigs at venues such as The Middle East in Boston and Webster Hall in New York [...]

This track from On The Rise takes Jason Derulo's "Whatcha Say" and Ludacris' "How Low", cuts them up, and throws the pieces into an electronic, noisy, hectic dubstep pit. Although you may not know us yet, the college music scene certainly does. As two sophomores at Bucknell University, we have established ourselves all over Northeast US with our unique dubstep/electro/indie mashups, booking every weekend since last Christmas. Our high-energy, crowd-inclusive shows have earned us sold-out shows at venues such as The Middle East in Boston and Webster Hall in New York City.

On the surface, We Be Xuxa almost seems like a retread of old school American punk, but actually it evokes without constant copying—it's fresh-faced punk, yet my heart hears Born Innocent -era Redd Kross in their sisterly choruses, and early early Black Flag or even Ramones in their strumming (minus Greg Ginn's noodling) and Wipers downturns on the chords, and a Darby Crash-like insistence on writing lyrics too self-referential and profound to sing straight into the microphone. And there's even a Urinals cover!?! And there's a Beach Blvd -esque melodicism to Jessie Clavin's bass [...]
