If you've never experienced The Cabin Down Below Band, you quite literally don't know what you're missing. My advice? Remedy this error as soon as is possible! This week I got my chance to do just that with a night to remember: Petty Fest's first ever stop in San Francisco! The evening was hosted by [...] The post Show Review: Petty Fest at the Fillmore, 02/27/2013 appeared first on Spinning Platters .

Can a biblical tale be gnarly? In the hands of Seattle grunge titans Mudhoney , the answer is a resounding yes. "The Only Son of the Widow from Nain", off the band's forthcoming album Vanishing Point , adds a satirical edge to this sacred story with blistering guitars and some crude one-liners ("Fuckin' Lazarus got all the fame"). Stream it below. Vanishing Point arrives April 2nd via Sub Pop.
Mudhoney release first single from Vanishing Point. Iconic rock band Mudhoney are gearing up to release their ninth full-length album, Vanishing Point , on April 2nd through Sub Pop Listen to the band's first single from the new album, "The Only Son of the Widow from Nain", below.

For a place called the "Music Hall," the Kansas City venue rarely sees a live band performance (it usually hosts theater productions). It's a pity that it doesn't pursue musicians more because it was the perfect setting for the Regina Spektor and Only Son concert. Soft lights wrapped around the performers, leaving them in a bit of a glow. Wonderful acoustics helped carry the sound flawlessly all the way into the upper corners of the balcony. For a performance whose headliner featured a grand piano, this almost felt more like a classical recital than an alternative [...]
Nashville's the kind of town where infamous events are kinda' commonplace. Stuff of legend happens on the regular and it's often pretty bizarre. Ryan Adams throws out a drunken heckler for demanding he play “Summer of '69” (not cool, bro), John Mayer makes a tearful apology to his bandmates at Bridgestone Arena for his racist(?) remarks in an ill-advised Playboy interview (really not cool, bro), Shaun White trashes a hotel room (wait, you're not a rockstar). And in 2007, sweet Regina Spektor collapsed from vertigo resulting from the mother of all ear [...]

Filed under: News , Video , Exclusive , New Releases Martin Hausler Only Son 's sophomore album Searchlight features melancholy New York folk music, much like lead singer Jack Dishel's previous band the Moldy Peaches . But the frontman trades any shred of comedy for bittersweet melodies on his newest track "Kick 'Em Out." Now you can take a gander at the song's accompanying video featuring Dishel on a [...]

Well, isn't this cute? Husband and wife Jack Dishel (aka Only Son ) and Regina Spektor look pretty classy in the video for "Call Them Brothers." Directed and shot by James Holland using Super 8mm film (additional archival footage was shot by family friend Howard Zuckerman), the happy couple gets a historical tint via photographs and home videos (including a clip of Dishel hamming it up as a kid). The track was originally recorded for Only Son's self-released 2011 album "Searchlight," but a new reworking can also be found the deluxe version of Spektor's latest album "What [...]

Only Son is the music of NYC-based songwriter Jack Dishel (former Moldy Peaches guitarist) . His latest full length record, “Searchlight“, was released in January 18th, 2011. However, Jack has been touring and opening for his with his wife, (yes married later in 2011) to singer/songwriter Regina Spekto. The two are touring the west coast on a summer tour that will be continuing after their west coast leg to the land down under where she and husband, Jack, will be performing in a number of places including one of our favorite venues The Sydney Opera House. Bolshie Russian-American quirkstrel Regina Spektor is, and always ought to be regarded as something of a fringe player. Sure, much of latest and sixth full-length What We Saw From The Cheap Seats is trimmed with powdery pop propensities that in the wrong, racketeering hands could be sprinkled into a Miley Cyrus record or if tinkled out of the commensurately wrong fingers could be construed as stuff saccharine extracted from some rightfully neglected gobbet of Vanessa Carlton's discography (A Thousand Miles lamentably, inevitably excluded). But in an era of artificiality in which ears mutilated under [...]

Reposted from their Facebook page : Time to abstain, pack it in, call it quits, throw in the towel, fold. After 6 years, 4 LPs, 2 EPs and a lotta shows, TOS is at an end. Most friends know we’ve had a rough couple of years and founding member/drummer Blake parted ways with the band back in April so we’ve decided that now was the right time to move on. Thank you to every single person who has ever supported our band. We never took you for granted, trust me. That being said - I’m [...]

This re-recorded version will appear on Spektor's forthcoming album, What We Saw From the Cheap Seats , as a bonus track for the deluxe version . Spektor's new album should be out officially on the 29th. Hear another song from the album here .
After seeing her video for " All The Rowboats " not too long ago, Regina Spektor offers up another treat for the eyes in the form of the video for "Call Them Brothers". The track is a re-working of Only Son's track and won't actually appear on her sixth studio album, What We Saw From the Cheap Seats , but the deluxe version as an added bonus. The old looking footage is a beautiful accompaniment for the track. Super 8 maybe? Whatever it is it looks real nice and can be enjoyed up at the top. [...]

"Call Them Brothers" by Regina Spektor & Only Son Regina Spektor revealed on her FB today that one of her new tracks from her upcoming LP, "What We Saw from The Cheap Seats", will be an acoustic version of duet she recorded with former Moldy Peaches guitarist Jack Dishel who independently released a solo record as Only Son last year.
