The set times for the Out of the Box Festival were announced today, which probably means we should preview the festival. I'll be the first to admit that I don't really know a whole lot about this festival as it seems to happen whenever I'm out of town. Weekend Passes Available at Rotate This and Soundscapes Here's the set times. I'm not going to bother reformatting it into something more HTML friendly because I am currently on a mac typing this and it's like driving an automatic after years of driving stick. It's weird. Opopo is a electro-dance band from Toronto. I haven't heard anything from them. 2010 was kind of quiet year for them. At the moment they are a two-piece but will be a full band in the future. The last time (probably my first time) was seeing them play live at Zaphod Beeblebrox on May 2, 2009 . So far I heard that they will be dropping a new LP called " Light Work " on June 14, 2011. Not sure what the new material will sound like. Check out their single [...]

Martin Mclaughlin and Benjamin Gibson began working together between extended stays in Amsterdam and Paris in search of cultural enlightenment. While roaming the streets of each city, Gibson and McLaughlin conducted endless sound experiments in an attempt to express the moods and visual aromas of such urban landscapes. Inspired as much by non-musical art forms, the beginnings of MARIENBAD had come to fruition. After two years of working and traveling abroad, Gibson and McLaughlin returned to Canada with an arsenal of new sounds and ideas. Named after the 1961 French [...]

There's been quite a bit of press for The Drake Hotel 's 5 year anniversary over the past few weeks; that is, the anniversary of its make-over and relaunch by entrepreneur Jeff Stober . In the past five years, the Drake has become many things to many people, and the various factions that have attempted to make the Drake their own have often bumped against each other. Members of the dance rock outfit OPOPO play the Drake Hotel Underground during the year end "What's [...]

A good friend of ours, Jay84 from The 84.85 , dropped this in our inbox a couple of days ago, and it's a shame we're only posting it now. Opopo have been one of those local electro pop acts that have so much promise, but have seemed to be at a standstill lately. Despite a few local shows and tiny bit of notoriety overseas, we haven't heard much from Opopo since the release of their debut EP on UrbNet Records . Hopefully that means big things to come from this promising Toronto trio. That [...]
