A song originally done by Darlene Love in 1963 and has been remade by dozens of artists over the past few years (the latest one is from Gossip Girl's Leighton Meester). We don't have the Blair Waldorf version, but we do have something much more better. In honor of Irish band Oppenheimer 's last live show today, we have their own version of Christmas (Baby Please Come Home) .
As of today two of Ireland's best indie bands Oppenheimer and Angel Pier have called it a day. There's no information yet as to the reason's of Angel Pier's demise but there's a decent report on State.ie about Oppenheimer. http://www.state.ie/2009/12/ne ws/oppenheimer-are-no-more/ Angel Pier's Sprite is such a great track from 2008. Here is Oppenheimer playing in the Olympia last week!
A message on the band's website today explained that the duo will be parting their separate ways after their last gig in Belfast this month: On December 19th at 11pm, Rocky and Shaun plan to take to the stage together as Oppenheimer for the last time. There will be a farewell EP, a digital release at the start of 2010. A snapshot of where we had arrived at this point, as we have recently been working on new material. .. Shaun has realized that in order to fulfill his hopes and dreams [...]
Oppenheimer opened for Bell x1 on the first of their homecoming concerts at the Olympia Theatre last night. They are also supporting Bell x1 on their nationwide tour as well as at the rest of teh Dublin dates. Setlist: The Choice MO This Is Not a Test Major Television Events Single Syllable Colours I Don't Care What Anybody Says ABout You, I Think You're Alright Ace of Spades (melodica tease) Look Up Six Blocks That Way This Life I didn't get any videos of this, but here's the official 'Look Up' video:

Firstly well done to Shaun & Rocky for getting the Bell X1 support Irish Tour slot this winter. I urge you to get to the shows early to catch the Oppenheimer lads do their thing. If you haven't heard of them before check out; http://www.myspace.com/oppenhe imer Also if you are in a band and want in turn to support Oppenheimer in Belfast then here's what to do!

The shutter comes down on mp3hugger for 24 hours as another weekend of international football is upon us. This time Ireland face the Italians who only need a point to qualify, a win for us would have them sweating a little in the last round of games next Wednesday (Cyprus you owe us dear). Croker will be full as will most of the supporters given that today is Saturday, kick off is not until 8pm and there is a German beer festival in full swing in the city centre. Fitting then that a random search for football phraseology threw up [...]
Having been off the scene for a while, Oppenheimer return to the Dublin fray this week with a support slot with the fantastic Frank Turner at the Academy 2 on Tuesday night. The other support will be one man guitar dymano Beans On Toast . Tickets are priced €13.50 including booking fee.

Test # 1: The 2UIBestow Sessions begin tonight! 9pm Boyles, Slane. Great line-up, if you can make it that would be amazing. Test #2: Will our government survive the elecions on Friday! General Election on the horizon maybe? Test #3: The English Examinations mess is too funny. It shows the power of communication in our country. Text, amail and Twitter allowed the information to get from Co. Louth to every corner of the country before the government had any idea that there were problems! Oppenheimer: This Is Not A Test

Looks like a preview of summer is heading our way, with highs getting close to 90 in some places. The unexpected heat is not going to keep the weekend show line-up from happening. It's another full weekend, so I'm going to have to split it up into two posts. This one will cover Friday and those that also hit other places after Friday. Kings of Leon from band's myspace Quite a few big name acts start things Friday and [...]

(click image to enlarge) I can't describe in words the crazy energy and manic dance moves of Math The Band. Fortunately, Jen took this video during their show at Death By Audio. Math the Band is Kevin Steinhauser (guitar and vocals) and Justine Mainville (keyboards, vocals, tambourine and a drum). They play over frenetic electronic compositions [...]

What a weird venue. For those who haven't gone to Toad's Place in New Haven before, the venue space is split in two by a barrier (complete with barrier guards), one side for the over-21s and the other for the unders. I suppose the whole idea is to prevent under-21s from drinking, but I heard that they had the same set up BEFORE they got shut down for a few years due to underage drinking. So I guess the moral of the story is that you really can't stop underage Yalies, after all. (We were also treated to witnessing an [...]

Credit to Rachel. Credit to Rachel. So while the rest of the blogosphere is updating the who, what, when, and where of SXSW, I'll just sit here, at home, in Jersey, and write about a tour that happened a week ago. No, I'm not jealous of any of you at all. Of all the shows I was going, the New York date at MHoW was the most-anticipated, with the probably exception of [...]

Credit to Rachel. I don't like confetti. Emily, your dad's here.* OK Go's set (and Longwave's and Oppenheimer's as well) at the Recher Theatre ran pretty much as it had the night before in Philly, minus a lot of the silly mistakes the headliners had made on opening night. With the added bonuses of having an even younger audience than the night before AND having an INCREDIBLY drunk girl (along [...]
Above is Belfast electro-pop band Oppenheimer playing in the Death Star's trash compactor. Shaun Robinson (drums and vocals) is depicted as a corn crake and Rocky O'Reilly (guitar, keyboards, vocoder) is depicted as a blue raccoon. They played Death By Audio last Thursday and Le Poisson Rouge (opening for They Might Be Giants) the Saturday [...]

Tomorrow marks the start of my residence for Blogger of the Week on Break Thru Radio. It is a cross promotional week where my regular 2 U I Bestow features appear on the BTR website and I make the radio show Anatomy of a Blogger. This show is based on the musical influences of Mixtape4melfi and 2 U I Bestow blogs. Within the tracks chosen are international acts such as David Ford, Jaymay, The National and The Gutter Twins as well as the following Irish acts I have chosen. This radio broadcast will appear on Thursday and can be accessed [...]

Hello, all (those of you that are reading this, anyway). Again, sorry for the lack of serious posts - I've been superlazy as of late about actually sitting down and listening/paying attention to stuff. Anyway, don't really expect any "serious" updates for the next week or so, either. My friend Rachel and I are currently embarking on what she likes to call a "fangirly roadtrip extravaganza!" and I'm just calling "we're following OK Go around on their tour for a week." Yessir, we are. Your guides, Katy and [...]
