Hello, all (those of you that are reading this, anyway). Again, sorry for the lack of serious posts - I've been superlazy as of late about actually sitting down and listening/paying attention to stuff. Anyway, don't really expect any "serious" updates for the next week or so, either. My friend Rachel and I are currently embarking on what she likes to call a "fangirly roadtrip extravaganza!" and I'm just calling "we're following OK Go around on their tour for a week." Yessir, we are. Your guides, Katy and [...]

Monday: Pet Ghost Project @ Cake Shop 8pm $6 Gotta give props to the former Antler Justin Stivers who broke from the group to focus on this project. He has done a fantastic job of building and mixing various styles of rock, indie, and pop together to create something original but undeniably beautiful. Seeing them on Monday night would be a damn good way to kick off your kick. Pet Ghost Project - "The Age of Automatics" Tuesday: Mystery Jets + The Dig @ Bowery Ballroom 7:30pm $20 [...]

I have just done the now traditional best of the year mixtape (cd) for my neice and our good friend in the UK. It wasn't an easy task this year trying to fit everything into 70 minutes. I think 2008 was a great year for Irish music. You can argue that there wasn't a 'Joshua Tree' or 'Live and Dangerous' to be seen but the sheer volume of really good albums was encouraging. Remember to support the artists by visiting their MySpace, catching them live and buying their albums. Best of 2008 Mixtape 1. The Coronas [...]
Oppenheimer @ Union Hall 9/19 - Pop Tarts Suck Toasted A night with the Irish electronic duo known as Oppenheimer is quite an experience. It goes way beyond the music to the point where it always seems like you are at a party with a bunch of your old friends. That's the bonding that is formed thanks to Rocky and Shaun, their ability to get to know their fans, and to introduce their fans to each
My favorite Irish, synth-rock, duo Oppenheimer are returning to New York this week for a gig at the Mercury Lounge on Thursday night (that's tomorrow!!!) and one at Union Hall on Friday night, so I thought it would be a good time for us to catch up with the band and see how they spent their summer vacation and what they are currently up to. Rocky took time out of his always busy day to answer
Monday: Human Highway + Becky Stark @ Cake Shop 8pm $8 The names of these two performers may not be immediately familiar to most of you but I assure you that you should have at least heard of what they are a part of or the names of their other projects. Opening act, Becky Stark, is the front woman for the wonderful Lavender Diamond. Her stage presence is a beautiful thing to behold and her voice

photo: Sam Lare Oppenheimer , a duo from Belfast, cross the big pond to convince the people in the USA that leftfield dance music is alive and well in Northern Ireland. Rocky O'Reilly (guitar, keys, percussion, mac) Shaun Robinson (vocals, drums, keys, guitars) sound like the soundtrack of an underground movie that you can't remember the name of. Their new album is called Take the Whole Midrange and Boost It , which is an adequate description indeed. 09/10 Boston, MA, Great Scott [...]

Last we left off with Belfast's Oppenheimer , we were premiering a few tracks that had yet to see release on the band's newest record, Take the Whole Midrange and Boost It . Well, the record's out, it's a glitchy blast, and the guys are heading out for a bit of a tour next week, which sees them hitting the major eastern cities of the US, including two stops in New York City (Mercury Lounge and Union Hall). Dates: Sep 10 Boston, MA Great Scott Sep 12 [...]

Hello, please allow me to introduce myself, I am a man of procrastination and general stupidity. This is why it has taken me so long to actually sit down and make my mark on Fireworks And Mash . Despite previously having constant internet access and lots of free time, I've decided now is the time to actually do stuff, when I have limited internet access and no free time. See? Procrastination and general stupidity. However, to make up for my laziness and absence I now propose a new regular bi-weekly feature to Fireworks And Mash , [...]

Holy Fuck, Oxegen 2008 by Shawna Scott In nearby Newbridge there are blue skies and sunshine but as we descend on Punchestown an ominous dark cloud is awaiting our return to the site. We start to wonder if Saturday is really to be as nice as the weather reports are telling us. Thankfully, it is and with only one 10 minute heavy shower, the rain goes somewhere else to play. There is plenty of in-tent action today so we scoot off to catch some of it. After suffering a sudden bout of mid-festival [...]

I've been working on the release posts all month, but with the server switch and other things that we had going on, they never saw the light of day. I'm going to correct that, by presenting you an entire month's worth of releases at once. It pretty much goes without saying, that this is going to be the longest post in IA's history. We'll be back with the regularly scheduled weekly posts this week. Enjoy! Week of June 24 I cannot say enough about the amount of great music out [...]
