Ladies and Gentleman, Please forgive my absence. I was enrolled in a fantastic intensive Spanish course with the good folks at Rassias and Dartmouth for the last two weeks. Believe me, I'd rather do anything but ignore our fine readers here at Cities of the Plain; yet, with all the classes (around eight hours each day), group meals and brain fatigue, I didn't have the time to listen to or write anything…sorry about that. And if my parents and sister are the only people who feel such an apology [...]

The lineup for GET LOADED is pretty sick and it keeps getting better. Just thinking about all these djs / producers / etc. kinda makes me giz in my pants. It's terrible getting old. You go through life, having fun, travelling, working, getting married, having a kid, when suddenly you hear a fact that makes you feel terribly, terribly old. This week, it was the news that Orbital have been around for 20 years. 20 years! Blimey. 20 years since I first heard "Chime" in a Newcastle nightclub called Rockshots (previously discussed here ). And slightly less than 20 years since I used to use their "Green" and "Brown" albums to chill out after a long, hard night out. [...]

This Friday sees LOVE THAT TUNE go head2head with NOISEPORN in what will be a massive night of nostalgia, pounding bass, fresh new tracks (obvioulsy, as that is what we're about) and good south London vibes. We want to bring good music away from the normal samey East ends of Corsica Studios, 93 feet East, Plastic People, Russian Bar, Vibe, and the rest and take it back to the oldskool. Where the likes of Mass, Bug Bar, Academy, and The Telegraph used to dominate. Fresh tracks are what this is about. ORBITAL have been off the [...]

photo: vincenzoscala Not much new stuff that I'd want to post about really so just some random tracks overall. But first a 'new' Bloody Beetroots remix, of Tommy Vee and Mauro Ferrucci with Ce Ce Rogers 'Stay'. Now I can't find the original of this but I listened to both the Vocal and the Club remix by the Beetroots, and the club is like a different version of 'La Serenissima' (original by Rondo Veneziano , by far their best song I feel and the one that made me love them), [...]

Further to the BLOGWAR event that we got going next Friday at JAMM, with non-other than ORBITAL who are about to bless the entire festival circuit over the summer, we have got a mix from Johan Soh who will be supporting Orbital (Phil Hartnoll, DJ set) and Equalizers on the night ( make sure u grab their BLOGWAR mix here ). If this mix is anything to go by then, he knows breaks and he knows how to play it. Bass filled but with a new edge to it. [...]

After unveiling headline performances at this summer's hottest dance festivals, as well as a UK headline tour, dance pioneers Orbital announce the release of their most well known tracks plus some new mixes. Simply titled 'ORBITAL 20' the compilation celebrates 20 years of ground-breaking electronica, reworked and remixed onto 2 CDs of generation-defining dance music, to be released on June 8, 2009 via Rhino Records. "This compilation is the most definitive summary of our work since 'Chime' came out in 1989", says Paul Hartnoll on the release of their definitive [...]
Orbital must have been one of those '90s bands which I have listened to endlessly on Saturday evenings before going out, or playing loud on my car cassette deck when driving around in my very first car. The playful music they have been delivering, especially in this still magically sounding "The box", always made my day ! Ik kan me nog goed voorstellen hoe ik op zaterdagavond voor het uitgaan nog [...]

Sorry for the húûj pöast, but I've been meaning to express my appreciation to 4 artists that have influenced my musical taste the most over the years. They've definitely been 'signs' in my 'life' .. road.. ? ROOO-AD. Anyway, I'll never forget walking into Darcy's parents place back in the day and hearing Orbital emanating from Darcy's room. (props brother!) Wow was my mind blown. From there, I never looked back, focusing full attention to this new found electronic sound and tossing my rap and metal cds to the wayside. So here they are, the 4 artists [...]
![[Álbum] "We Just Are", The Japanese Popstars](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/1768744_lg.jpg)

Last of D's selections, with two dance heavyweights. DJ Shadow – Endtroducing (Mo' Wax 1996) Another full-length record and another great one. I've never been a fan of hip-hop remotely (though it's hardly what you'd call conventional hip-hop), it just wasn't for me but I make an exception for this and the man who made it. Composed entirely from samples, this is an unusual, atmospheric, imaginative, soulful album that I loved the first time I heard it, a feeling not dulled by the passage of time. Apparently, Josh Davies is not a [...]
