Oregon Bike Trails, creator of my favorite song of 2011, are changing their name to Cayucas. I suppose it's better to do this before releasing their first album, but it's still a pain to have to happen at all. Speaking of which, OBT picked up their gear and headed to Portland to record their first [...]
Trying to keep consistent with the posts that I put together last year, this is my list of favourite new artists that I found in 2011. One caveat worth mentioning, a lot of these artists may have existed pre-2011, but only came on to my radar last year. Although this post really should have been published at the end of last year, I'm glad I'm finally getting to it. Stream them in playlist form via Spotify , Rdio and Grooveshark . [...]

Welcome to FWBA's best-of 2011. This has been such a meaningful year in music to me that it's tough to represent in one post. I'm going to be honest, this took me quite a long time. I wanted to do this year justice because personally, it was a total dream: living in San Diego working with some of my favorite artists, going to SXSW and Lollapalooza, seeing Dave Bazan in stranger's living rooms, Feist play a hometown show, saw tune-yards electrified show at Soda Bar clocking in as one of my favorite performances, watching Zach Rogue and my boyfriend playing [...]

Ladies and gentlemen, we have arrived. I am sure you will have your opinions to placing certain songs so highly on my list...just remember, I am a loser with terrible taste in music. 10. You Won't - Who Knew These guys sort of burst onto the scene with a handful of really great songs. Straight out of Boston, if you get the chance to get your grubby nubbies any of their released tunes then do it. Here's hoping that their [...]

Turntable Kitchen's December Mix isn't our usual mix. Instead of a heavy focus on new music, I highlight some of my favorite tracks from the past year. Unlike last year though, I didn't focus on digital-only tracks, but instead highlight some of my favorite tracks released during the year regardless of the format it was originally released in. I hope this will help keep your holiday travels jolly and bright. Turntable Kitchen :: The December 2011 Mix ( .zip file )(on Spotify ) 01. I Break Horses - Winter Beats [...]

<!-- --> Click here for download Song: John Denver - Goodbye Again (Youth Lagoon Cover) [download here ] What's so good? Sure, it's not fantastically produced. No worry to me - in fact it almost lends to how nice this cover of John Denver's "Goodbye Again" is to listen to! Employing piano and a little bit [...]
2011 was (another) odd year for music. It felt like the average quality of albums was raised a bit, but nothing really stood out as a life-changing album or single of the year. Still, there was a lot of great music to be heard. Here's fifty of my favorite tracks from the year, ranging from [...]
Click image to download full album Song: Tennis - Origins "Tennis - Origins" What's so good? Denver-based indie pop outfit Tennis have officially announced their new album Young and Old will be released February 14th of next year. That's right, it's keyed up for Valentine's Day, which seems wholly fitting given Alaina Moore's beautiful track on this latest single "Origins." Produced by Patrick Carney of The Black Keys, the album is shaping up to cause quite [...]

Click image to download full album Song: Tennis - Tell Her No "Tennis - Tell Her No" What's so good? Husband-and-wife duo Tennis are set to follow up their debut album Cape Dory with a new album to be released sometime early in 2012. The coolest part of it is undoubtedly that it is being produced by Patrick Carney, best known as the drummer for The Black Keys. In the interim, they've just released this peach [...]

I've been no slouch on sharing my love for LA-based music blog, Rollo & Grady . Somehow they always seem to have their eye on rugged new bands that fit my lifestyle and musical tastes to a tee...I guess it helps to live in Southern California sometimes. On my daily stop-in this morning, I was pretty pumped to see their newest post...the top 21 artists of 2011 . It's a pretty amazing list and plays well from top to bottom. If you get the chance then pop over and have a read/listen for yourself. I have included a few [...]
Click image to download full album Song: Youth Lagoon - Afternoon "Youth Lagoon - Afternoon" What's so good? Good morning, everyone! Or should I say, good afternoon? At least that's what the title of Youth Lagoon's "Afternoon" would have me say. This beautifully melodic track was released as part of their debut LP, The Year of Hibernation . Actually, it's pretty much just one 22-year-old Boise, Idaho resident by the name of Trevor Powers. Oh, and if [...]
This is probably my strongest post in some time, I really hope you get down on these songs in the same fashion as I have been lately: Glowbug - "The Shows" [mp3] Don't take this lightly when I tell you to go over to Glowbug's Bandcamp page and download this (free) album! That way when [...]

Awww yeah, week six and still alive. Life is good. 1. Bon Iver - Beth/Rest (Piano Solo version) 2. Clap Your Hands Say Yeah - Ketamine and Ecstasy 3. Foster The People - Houdini 4. Oregon Bike Trails - Cayucas and with a surprising revival... [...]

We have a definite "toe-tapper" for you to take into your weekend. California's Oregon Bike Trails have an ease to their music that exudes from their strutting bass lines, causal vocals, and an overall simplistic drive to their sound. That's not to say the band doesn't keep your ears guessing. The best feature of "High School Lover" is how the song develops slowly with twists and turns as new sections step in and take over. This is a summer track that gently reminds us of what is ending and the cold that lurks in the future. [...]
Hey kids! Drop those videogames and grab your bikes! Oregon Bike Trails is going to take you on a funtacular adventure — no batteries required! All you need is your iPod, this folk-pop tune, and some summery weather and you're ready for a merry ol' time! While you're grooving to this, pre-order their 7" at Father/Daughter Records . Oregon Bike Trails - Cayucas.mp3

Do you remember that jam "High School Lover" by Santa Monica, California songwriter Zach Yudin, a.k.a. Oregon Bike Trails ? Back when I first shared the song I told you it would probably be the best sunny day indie-pop song you'd hear all year. And so far that is holding true. In fact, if there is any competition it could be from the track's b-side "Cayucas" on the track's limited-edition 73 single released by the fantastic Father Daughter Records . The 73 also includes a crisp and shiny newly remastered version of the a-side which you can hear digitally [...]
