If you've been a follower of the Elephant Six work and the Saddle Creek Records family, then perhaps your introduction to Harouki Zombi might be a bit of a surprise. The duo is comprised of Orenda Fink, who led Azure Ray , not to mention her own solo outings, and also Nina Barnes, wife of Kevin Barnes. Together they've combined to create an interesting piece of art pop, using theatrics (primarily designed by Barnes) and electronic influenced tracks in their performance pieces. Clearly the duo are in [...]
Sometimes you're just a little down and you don't know why. I believe a suitable word is "melancholy"... not too much of anything really, but enough to note it. That's me today. This dreamy duo is made up of Maria Taylor and Orenda Fink. They're still a band but many of you may know some [...]
With her remarkable debut album, These Open Roads, singer/songwriter Haroula Rose has found her defining purpose.

Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News , Exclusive From the very first moments of the Saturday night Azure Ray show at Mercury Lounge in New York City, it was readily apparent that the late country-rock legend Gram Parsons would have been alternately impressed and honored. His musical influence on the Alabama dream pop duo -- coined "Cosmic American Music" -- permeates the work of Orenda Fink and Maria Taylor and never was it [...]

Recommended Show: SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 13, 2010 AZURE RAY & TIM FITE @ MERCURY LOUNGE 217 E Houston St New York, NY 10002 $15, 6:30PM Despite being on hiatus as a duo for a few years, it never feel like Azure Ray completely went away. Both Orenda Fink and Maria Taylor continued similar solo careers, but the separate endeavors could never compete with the pair together. Tonight they play Mercury Lounge, but get their early, you don't want to miss opening act, Tim Fite ! [...]
I've said in the past that a band's name can often times tell you volumes about their sound. Sadly, Azure Ray could go a million different directions ('80s Swedish speed metal band, anyone?), which is why it helps in these cases to turn to their label. Signed to Conor Oberst's Saddle Creek , Maria Taylor and Orenda Fink are, musically speaking, a lot like their boss and labelmates: strummy acoustic songwriters influenced by rock and country equally. But unlike Cursive or The Rural Alberta Advantage, Azure Ray have something more [...]
Wistful, languid dream pop is the order of the day on Azure Ray 's Drawing Down the Moon (September 14, Saddle Creek), the long-awaited creative re-pairing of Orenda Fink and Maria Taylor and the duo's first new studio output since 2003's Hold On Love . Both Fink and Taylor have kept busy since their '04 split, with a variety of solo albums -- most recently with 2009 efforts LadyLuck from Taylor and Ask the Night [...]

Filed under: News , New Music , Exclusive Kevin Phillips Six years is a long time between records, but that's how long it's been since indie-folk-pop duo Azure Ray released their acclaimed album, 'Hold on Love.' Finally, the pair -- Orenda Fink and Maria Taylor -- are about to break that recording silence with 'Drawing Down the Moon,' a new full-length album set for release on Saddle Creek Records in September, which will be [...]

My heart fluttered when I heard that Azure Ray were back together, and it looks like the duo of Maria Taylor and Orenda Fink are containing their collaborative efforts this year with even more tour dates, and if that wasn't enough a new album has been confirmed as well. Drawing Down the Moon will be released on September 14. Full schedule of the band's tour dates is below. Azure Ray tour dates: Oct 10 - Orlando, FL - [...]

Brooklyn-based Jarrod Gorbel put his band the Honorary Title behind him last year after two albums and enough touring to make anybody road-weary. Now he's embarked on solo music, releasing the "Ten Years Older" EP that a sampling of the material on his forthcoming full-length, "Devil's Made a New Friend," recorded with Blake Sennett (Rilo Kiley/the Elected). Okay, let's pull a few notable news bits from the queue… Before we get things started, LA Weekly deserve a Scooby Snack for sniffing out the secret identity of the highest bidder at Radiohead's Haiti Benefit on Sunday night: Dangerbird Records co-founder Peter Walker. In as fast as you could say "Daft Punk leak rumor debunked!" a brand new song/leak has surfaced . Let the retraction countdown begin… Ed Banger, Justice's record label, wants us to "share it or talk about it"—"it" being new Justice [...]
The evolution of a band is often a hit or miss venture. Either the band tries something new and it strikes just the perfect chord for its seasoned fans (e.g. Radiohead's Kid A ), or they lose hardcore fans but gain a more commercial audience (e.g. Modest Mouse's Good News for People Who Love Bad News ), or it completely blows up in their face and they lose mostly everything but real hardcore fans (Metallica's St. Anger ). As much as fans want [...]

Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News , New Music , Exclusive When drummers decide to become frontmen, you can end up with Phil Collins , or you can go the way of Jason Boesel , who pounds the skins for Rilo Kiley , Bright Eyes and Conor Oberst 's Mystic Valley Band . Boesel recently took a cue from the company he keeps and decided to try his own hand at songwriting . It went well for him -- so well, [...]
