Last night Sweetwater Organic Community Farm in Tampa hosted their annual Pesto Festo. For the past 20 years the farm has celebrated the end of their season by hosting a night full of organic food, music, and prizes. Despite the somewhat pricey entry fee (20 dollars a person) I didn't hesitate when I received the email about it. Sweetwater Farms provides an important service for our community. It offers members the opportunity to purchase seasonal, local. organic food as an alternative to the tasteless sprayed stuff available in most supermarkets. The farm also aims to educate the next [...]
As an organized, anal, perfectionist Virgo, I spent many a moon trying to find the best way to maintain my to do list. I've tried the simple task list in Gmail, Remember The Milk, a piece of scrap paper... you get the idea. Then a year or so ago an ...
Berlin-born Lena Brumby just released a mixtape for a series of podcasts on the website of a nice little label & party collective called Kwattro Kanali. The one-hour mix is deep-housy with jazzy elements, nice vocals and a lot of groove & soul. Besides DJing Lena is also co-managing Organic Records and is currently based [...]

And now three reasons to shake it on over to The Crown Tap tonight... 1. Timmy's Organism is the solo project of Timmy Vulgar (Human Eye, Clone Defects), and it's just as weird as you might imagine. The Detroit outfit, which also features members of Hamtramck's Terrible Twos, rock twisted, spacey punk tunes that feature trippy synths and crooked structures. Dare I call it pop rock for aliens? Because that sounds about right. LISTEN: "Give It To Me Babe" [...]
Stream: The Anniversary - "All Things Ordinary" If you are of a certain age and went to a liberal arts college in a certain zone of the Midwest, there wasn't any way you didn't know this band — and didn't have an absolute crush on Adrianne Verhoeven .
Filed under: News , R.I.P. Keystone Hulton Archive The legend of Keith Moon continues to live on -- but the London Olympic Committee apparently thinks the late Who drummer is still alive, too. British publication Metro reports the Who's manager Bill Curbishley was asked by organizers of this summer's London Olympics if Moon -- who died in 1978 -- "would be available" to perform. "I emailed [...]

As major labels continue to exist behind the times, artists and labels with little capital and lesser reputations are producing some of the most innovative, interesting, and inspiring music. Whether it's creating a new niche in digital technology or looking to once obsolete formats, Agitated Atmosphere hopes to pull back the curtain on a wealth of sights and sound from luminaries such as Rain Drinkers . We find Wisconsin to be a media-friendly state. It's smiling faces and happy residents make the most of isolation; it's capital city home to a [...]
Michael Pollan's "Food Rules" talk is a stop-motion animated film by Marija Jacimovic. If you know nothing about Michael Pollan, the gist of the video is that organic, local foods can better feed people and simultaneously use less fossil fuels. "Using a mixture of stop-motion and compositing, our aim and challenge was to convey the topic in a visually interesting way using a variety of different food products. We made a little table top set up at home and worked on this a little over three weeks," writes Jacimovic. [via Doobybrain ]

Mickey Davis aka The Olsen Twinns of St. Paul, Minnesota, recently released an EP entitled, It's Okay Because Some People Still Love Each Other . The EP's poppy antidepressant formulations have an organic sway to them that has the sounds of Davis to be somewhat unearthly yet bizarrely pleasing. Mickey has played with some great artists like Oneohtrix Point Never and Tim Hecker as well. Very neat and totally fitting for this time of year. Download and stream his entire EP over at his bandcamp . The [...]

With a title translating Ice Cube's You Can Do It into Prince text-speak, there was an outside chance that Perfume Genius' second album would find Seattle's Mike Hadreas taking his muse to the club. But no, not yet. Perfume Genius' debut Learning was a compact set of piano-led songs, assembled at Hadreas' mother's house as he attempted to recover from years of destructive behaviour. The Perfume Genius back-story threatened to obscure Hadreas' ability to write movingly about others' lives as well as his own, but Put Your Back N 2 It , although [...]

Some fantastic trippy warehouse vibes from Nexus 21. Originally started in 1989 this was their most recent record released back in 2008, almost 20 years on. This is one for the heads! In my head, I picture a guy, kac in 1996 dancing in a sweaty hole, dressed in a yellow sports top, with glowsticks and white gloves. I googled it andddddddd... DOWNLOAD

Nicolas Jaar drops a new mysterious dance number featuring Demi Moore's youngest daughter, Scout Larue. Howling saxophones and a grooving dark-pop rhythm that accentuates the up beat and down beat leaving the body to sway and the head to bop. Oh and Scout's vocals over this; so damn seductive. With just one listen you'll be hooked... Theatrical Hammond organ takes on standards Edwin "Buddy" Cole's Hammond albums are probably better known by sight than sound. The album covers – particularly Have Organ, Will Swing and Powerhouse! – are treasured icons of the space-age bachelor pad genre, seen by many, but actually heard by few. Surprisingly, the music inside isn't particularly exotic. Cole was more of a lush, theater organ stylist (a job he'd actually held in the 1930s) than a bluesy howler, and though he had significant chops as a jazz pianist, they were spent mostly [...]

The Atlanta MC J-Coop is here with some newness for 2012, in the form of "Cream" Feat. Keith Charles Spacebar, Weedy Truth & Abib Jahleel. While Coop is widely unknown, the witty MC uses everyday tribulations and societal mishaps to express himself through this music. With amazing sample choices, and jazzy knocking beats, it's hard to even think about disliking Coop if you consider yourself a fan of honest, organic hip-hop. Look out for much more on Coop and his Thumbs Up team in the near future on RH. J-Coop: "CREAM" Feat. Keith Charles, [...]
