I don't normally post a lot of videos, but I have been on the verge of posting some Orouni material for a while. In general I find their output a little inconsistent, but there's no debating the fact that they have some really excellent songs. This happens to be one of them: a lovely piece of twee indie-pop, with a nice beat, a catchy chorus and nice, subtle use of female backing vocals to accentuate the chorus. The video is by Marisa Lai and, although I love claymation and this is lovely, I do find that the pace [...]
The French indie pop/folk band Orouni has made a new video for their song "A greased and golden palm". The video is a clay animation made by the Australian artist Marisa Lai . Enjoy! Orouni- A Greased and Golden Palm from Marisa Lai on Vimeo .

Kate Hutchinson - Irish Grandmother As the Great Songs of 2008 list progresses... we add a hit from one of Madison's own, a Russian-born and Brooklyn-bred Bjork, a characteristically patient K-records spirit, another artist from last year's JustSayin show series, a few ballads, and a folk pop song from Paris that makes a childhood death sound cute. 31) Fleet Foxes [...]

A few years ago I made friends with a French band called Toy Fight , and actually got to meet them in Paris during a trip I was taking. David (from Toy Fight) introduced me to the great world of independent French music. Some of the bands I discovered along the way were (Please) Don't Blame Mexico , and more recently Orouni. The common thread running through these bands are English lyrics, a love for folk music and the ability to craft playful pop melodies. Orouni's latest [...]

Orouni - The Only Pictures I've Got Fransk indiepop med svagt gitarrknäppande men desto mer framträdande stråkar. Låten är från albumet Jump Out the Window .

This is just an overspilling of all the shiny new things I have in my inbox this week. It's so fabulously up to the minute that there are songs in here which only landed in my inbox yesterday. There's a slightly sneaky legend making an appearance as well, in the shape of Jason Lytle. Jason was the lead singer of Grandaddy, a legendary group who disbanded back in about, erm, 2006 or so, leading to Jason moving to a house out in Montana and apparently giving up on the idea of making a living out of music altogether. [...]

I keep havin' these dreams 29. Monochrome - Caché [...]

Orouni - Gone Through The Roof (oui, c'est bon on a compris!)

Photo: Kimicon . Today I awoke before my desire. At the foot of the bed it lay in its sore spot, twitching in nightmare or dream. I passed my hand over it, like an abscess. No birds were aware of me. They came and went, nothing resembled anything else. The house across the water was still, as if it would always be frozen. - Matthew Zapruder. by supa fly It's always educational to check out labels overseas and expose yourself to new music. Today we take a look at Monster K7 in France who released Orouni 's new album in March. Their artist's genre twist through electronicka, folk, and indie rock but that's how everyone seems to roll these days. As music listeners, there's definitely some talent to appreciate here in the form of Michael Wookey, Fuzzkhan, and others so I've left you with a couple MP3's from the label . I also asked [...]

Photo by datahbi Entire Cities - Coffee First song on the list an indie countryish gem...I mean a country indiepopish...uhm that is...an indie-folk road-type... well nevermind. In their own words: "My personal contribution to the ol' pigeonhole is 'psychedelic cow punk'; I'm not really worried about it though because I've tried to define the music myself and failed miserably. If I don't know what it is, then how the f*** is anyone else gonna know?" Check out their [...]

Travis Millard - Feelings (2008) We are our words and our worst. Except when we are not. And then it's difficult to explain. And even more difficult to ever sound authentic again. Except that we can tell the difference in ourselves. For holes and sticky fly paper, there are scissors and ladders to remedy a situation too gruesome. For fist fights without reasons, there are choices to never return. [...]

Jump Out The Window [...]
Annie - "What Do You Want (The Breakfast Song)" I took the city bus to and from high school for four years. Every day there was an autistic woman who would sit in the same seat, and every time we hit a certain corner in the route, she would begin repeating the question: "What are we having for dinner?" Over and over, practicing for when she walked in the door I imagine, over and over. It didn't take long for this ritual to become very comforting, and the rare days when she was absent, I [...]
