Over the past 12 months or so, The Orwells have been gererating quite a buzz for themselves in the blog-o-sphere (and wider) with their frenetic blending of garage rock with a healthy dose of punk swagger and attitude. The next release, an EP titled Other Voices, will see the light of day on the 25th June via East End/ Canvasback and here in the UK via East End/ National Anthem . Have a listen to the title track. Last August, with each member at the ripe age of 17, Chicago's The Orwells released their debut LP, Remember When . A year later and with all sorts of adult privileges in grasp (voting, curfew extensions, etc.), the band is back with a brand new EP, Other Voices , featuring a title track produced by TV on the Radio's Dave Sitek . While aging has offered the band a more pronounced sense of structure and foresight, their latest single is just as riotous, with the fuzzy guitars and haggard vocals still embodying youthful recklessness. Listen in below. [...]

British punk rock band Palma Violets stage a return to Philadelphia tonight with a show at Johnny Brenda's . The South London-bred four-piece is touring in support of their debut album 180 , named for a venue in Lambeth, London where the band got its start. To get a sense of their raucously wild live show, check out a recap of Palma Violet's SXSW house party here . Tickets and information for tonight's 21+ show with The Orwells can be found here . Graphics By Madeline Rosemurgy Not even a perpetual torrent of rain could extinguish the good vibes at the inaugural Shaky Knees Music Festival in Atlanta over the weekend. The first day of the two-day festival (Saturday) saw crowds build to around 8,000 by the end of the long, messy day, and by Sunday afternoon, the festival sold out. The 28 bands that played the festival were greeted by over 14,000 keyed up fans all within the confines of the shiny (not anymore), new Historic Old Fourth Ward Park and the adjoining Masquerade Music [...]

This weekend marks the inaugural run for Atlanta's brand new Shaky Knees Festival , and I'm stoked to be there to experience it! The two day festival will be held in a newly completed park next to a prominent Atlanta music venue, The Masquerade . The schedule and lineup is a bit light compared to other festival heavy-hitters ( Bonnaroo, Sasquatch, Hangout ), but for a first year festival, the lineup is pretty amazing. The schedule is 12-11 Saturday, May 4, and 12-10 Sunday, May 5. Nearly every act scheduled to [...]

On Monday, the Lollapalooza 2013 lineup was officially revealed in a reactionary fashion after the complete lineup was leaked days before. And the general social media reaction to the headliners seems to range all the way from mildy excited to possibly interested to typically disappointed. However for us, the biggest names are the least interesting on the Lollapalooza. We're far more concerned with the Chicago talent that has landed a coveted spot on of the largest and most poplar festivals in the county. This year is no different as Lollapalooza is quick [...]

Today Lollapalooza announced their 2013 lineup, and it's a good one. Headliners are The Cure, The Killers, Nine Inch Nails, Phoenix, The Postal Service, Vampire Weekend, The National, New Order, Queens Of The Stone Age, and (bleh) Mumford & Sons. Then you got Kendrick Lamar, Grizzly Bear, Band Of Horses, Major Lazer, Hot Chip, Local Natives, Two Door Cinema Club, Crystal Castles, Lana Del Rey, Beach House, Cat Power, Frightened Rabbit, Alt-J, Foals, Smith Westerns, The Vaccines, Father John Misty, DIIV, Heartless Bastards, Haim, Jessie Warem Wild Nothing, Wavves, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Icona Pop, Jake Bugg, [...]

The Orwells As I headed to my last day of sxsw, I got one more chance to hang out and soak up all the sxsw culture that is the bus ride downtown. On Saturday, there were two girls waiting for the bus wearing an obscene amount of neon for the daylight hours. Here's the thing - wasn't American American pushing neon as a trend like two years ago? Why are people taking up this trend now? It's enough to make me want to start a really mean-spirited anti-fashion blog - sample entry: [...]

The Orwells , c’est l’histoire de 5 kids de 17 piges en provenance de la banlieue de Chicago qui préfèrent jouer du rock & roll plutôt que de traîner au lycée. Normal, vous me direz.

[Last day of South by Southwest's music festival was a doozy. The industry was frantically running around to catch a set by a band they've been meaning to see all week (like this writer), but venues at capacity, long lines and late starts didn't help. Although the foot traffic seemed to die down just a tad on Saturday, those who finished their last work assignment or were merely celebrating Saturday night let loose making Austin bars happy. From garage rock to pop to electro to hip-hop:] @Seraphina_L on Saturday [...]

SXSW Music is right around the corner, and even if you wont be taking to the skies (or road) to attend, we still thought it would be nice to highlight some of our favorite acts that will be sweating up the stages with their sweet jams. And what better way to start our little showcase, [...]

After guiding The Orwells away from high school fandom in the Chicago suburbs and into a deservedly buzz-drawing national touring act, the Aquarium Drunkard's Los Angeles-based imprint Autumn Tone Records all of the sudden seems like the premiere planting ground for raucous and grimy garage-rock up-and-comers. Next up is David Lynch fans Twin Peaks : another obscenely young group of Chicago punks that exhale bong smoke and spit fire, brimstone, and wickedly enjoyable fits of manically-paced rock 'n' roll. Peep "Stand In The Sand," a just over two-minute long hurricane-caliber force of teenage rebellion that elevates the [...]
