Their cinematic folk rock has caught the ears of many fans and earned them a spot on tour with Bon Iver last year and now a string of dates with Radiohead (Yeah! That Radiohead !) this month and next. Seriously, 5 days after this show at [...]

Things are finally picking up here in New York City as the indie music world waiting until Valentine's Day week to start pulling all the punches. For the second straight week, you can join us for a "The Wild Honey Pie Presents" gig, this time over in Brooklyn at Park Slope's Union Hall where we'll be celebrating a special occasion on Saturday night. What is this special occasion you ask? You Won't is celebrating the release of their debut record, Skeptic Goodbye , and ringing it in with the gorgeous ladies of Lucius [...]

With the news yesterday that Radiohead would be one of the two-weekend headliners at Coachella 2012, it was only fitting that the other West Coast dates finally started to get announced. They've added dates all over the world, actually, but the West Coast dates are the ones I care about. I'm a little bummed of [...]

When It's Frightening came out in 2009 we were all over it, especially with the magic that was "Percussion Gun," one of our favorite tracks from that year. Today, news hits the street that White Rabbits are going to release their new album Milk Famous on March 6th via TBD Records , the label that brought you Other Lives . This opening single definitely sees the band experimenting with negative space, offering up a more subdued [...]

I've already shared my favorite songs with you and told you a little bit about my personal MVP, but here are a few more of my favorite things from 2011. My Favorite Albums of 2011: 1. Fleet Foxes - Helplessness Blues 2. Zoe Muth and The Lost High Rollers - Starlight Hotel 3. Charles Bradley - No [...]
I'll remember 2011 as a year with more good music than I had time to devote to it. Because my primary focus is music emerging from SoCal — and because there was so much of it this year — I found myself taking only passing interest in many hyped albums ... and not finding a lot of best in what the interwebs deemed "best new music." So fire me. Many of my favorite albums of the year came artists with whom I'd already developed a listener's relationship. Following are my favorite 20 [ excluding local artists, because I [...]

We all love lists, and we all love sarcasm. Though, I think its important to reflect upon the last year of music, I'm going to do so through the use of a list. It was a fantastic year full of awesome albums, and I'm going to count down a bunch of my favorites, and give you something to listen to while reading. Welcome to the top 10, albums that to be quite honest, could all be number ones, but hey it wouldn't be a list without some order. These are the thoroughbreds. I'm sure [...]

So, as the New Year approaches, here are our favourite albums of 2011 for your consideration. Feel free to dispute, argue, or otherwise put us right because, if nothing else, music is as about as subjective topic as it is possible to get. Some of these may not be the "best" albums of the year as far as the critics are concerned, but that matters not, as they were the ones we enjoyed listening to most - give them a try, you might feel the same. 50 Jessica Lea Mayfield [...]
10. The Antlers - Burst Apart Coming up with a follow up album after the crazy success of 20092s Hospice was a very tall order to fill. While I don't think that anyone would say that Burst Apart is a better album it certainly wasn't anything that you could write off as a sophomore slump. The story telling and ability to write melodic songs about the saddest subjects ("Putting The Dog To Sleep") is still in full swing . The Antlers - "I [...]

A list of our favorite albums of 2011. Below you'll find the records that meant the most to me this year. A smaller list than in previous years which is a result of these records remaining in heavy rotation all year combined with an equal amount of time spent listening to records not released this year. [Note: this list does not include releases from the artists I work with directly] Bon Iver | Bon Iver ( buy ) MP3: Bon Iver - "Holocene" [...]
In 2011, I saw more than 500 bands perform live over 265-plus days of show-going, and still I feel as if I missed a lot. Plenty of what I did see remains etched in my memory, though, from festival adventures big and small (SXSW, Coachella and FYF to the Silverlake Jubilee, the substitute Sunset Junction soiree, Lobsterfest and more) to club shows that reminded me that up-close-and-personal is best. Below, my favorite 15 live moments of 2011 (with a previously unpublished photo gallery by Laurie Scavo from No. 8, Eastern Conference Champions' album-release show): [...]

This list is a long time coming and a little later than I would have liked it to be, but I do not take lists lightly so I didn't want to rush it. For me 2011 was a great year in music. I have opened myself up and listened to a lot of stuff that I don't think I would have given a chance a couple of years ago. I also saw a fair amount of shows in 2011. Alexi Murdoch, The Decemberists, The Kills, James Vincent McMorrow and these are all albums I consider to have made up a [...]
