Jesse Tabish of Other Lives gave a guitar lesson for Backstage Broadcast from Germany. Tabish talks about finding power chords through Nirvana and Link Wray, plays a punk song ("Conspiracy") he wrote when he was 10-years-old, and explains how he found new ways to write songs like "Weather", "Dust Bowl III", "Dark Horse" and "As I Lay My Head Down".

Sometimes life feels like nothing else than a big journey. A constant one between different places, unknown future, past memories and the opportunity to meet a lot of people along the way. English singer/songwriter WILL SAMSON can sing a song about this feeling. Or better said - he already did in the past with the tender The post NBHAP Exclusive: Guestmix #12 - Will Samson appeared first on Nothing But Hope And Passion - NBHAP - Music Magazine & more .

Vicki 's Top Lists of 2012 I went into 2012 with a very ambitious goal of trying to cover more musical ground than in the year before. I set up a playlist and began adding songs from all of the new releases, in an effort to keep track of them all. By March my playlist was already over 100 songs, and undoubtedly did not encapsulate everything new. This approach allowed me to sample a lot of different songs from a variety of artists, but I never really felt that I'd absorbed anything. More importantly, [...]

Words by Vicki Sometimes the best concerts are the ones you go into with no expectations. Earlier in 2012 , I went to see Other Lives , thanks to a cheap ticket and the knowledge that soon after the show, the band was slated to go on tour with Radiohead . I hadn’t heard anything else about the band, but that was enough to pique my curiosity. I had no way of knowing I was about to see the best live show of my [...]

In MOJO Magazine 's year end wrap-up, U22s Edge mentioned Other Lives ' song "Dark Horse" as one that blew him away in 2012. (h/t Ferris O'Brien ) See for yourself what John Mayer , Thom Yorke , and now, Edge loves about this band from Stillwater:

Going through the motions like a fake, uninterested being of bogus individuality and worldly repeated ignorance, ATO Records 2012 Fall Sampler provides you with a refreshing opposite to an overly used and a misinformed trait of accepted common belief. Striking the ground with a bunch of heavenly rock matches on this sampler, is a couple of exhibits from Alabama Shakes, Two Gallants and Everest. Taking you through the alternative vain is Other Lives’ ‘Take Us Alive,’ but not before reaching the finishing line with ATO’s two shapely front runners via the remarkable ‘Hold On When You [...]

Other Lives lit up the stage at Lincoln Hall Saturday night both literally and figuratively. The band had the stage decked out with oversized light bulbs that flashed rhythmically throughout the set. Added to the fog machine that looked to be working overtime at some points in the set, it created a really splendid streetlight in the fog effect that added ambiance to the already stellar music. While the light bulbs were impressive (especially because the first thing the band did upon taking the stage was make the lights flash in time to a little trumpet intro) what [...]

Photo Credit: We All Want Someone To Shout For Other Lives and Indians played Music Hall of Williamsburg this past Thursday as one of the last stops on their two and half month tour. Indians , the moniker for Søren Løkke Juul, a singer songwriter from Copenhagen, opened the show and provided the perfect stripped down contrast to Other Lives' orchestral rock. The Wild Honey Pie recently did a buzzsession with Juul, so I had been looking forward to [...]

On the rise Copenhagen sing-songwriter Indians made one of his NYC debut performances last night opening for Other Lives at The Music Hall Of Williamsburg. It was an impressive set of songs that ranged from folk singer-songwriter stuff, to more dazzling electronic outbursts that were both trippy and endearing. He is releasing his debut album Somewhere Else this Janaury 29 on 4AD. Listen to the amazing "Cakelakers" here . From the sound of his set, it's going to be one hell of an album. Other Lives opened for Radiohead for good [...]
