Formerly running with the moniker, Old Husband, the Adelaide, Australia-based due Manor (Nathaniel Morse & Caitlin Duff) hit us like a brick with their track "Rhodesia". Harmonization like that of the Beach Boys intertwines with a California beach-like vibes like that of The Shore . Duff's vocals will make you melt, Morse's song-writing talent will tear your world apart. This is perhaps one of the best tracks we've heard all year. Its pretty sad seeing 2010 go, and as I sift through my collections, drafting this list its making me all the more nostalgic. These songs are not necessarily the best, just the ones which struck the deepest with me over the year. They are the ones which I have had the best relationship with, strike up the best memories and relate to a particular positive time or place throughout the 2010. These twenty five are the melodies which i'll recall in a year, two years or even five years down the line and think, "Ah, 2010, what a fantastic year [...]
Photography by me. "Rest is not idleness, and to lie sometimes on the grass on a summer day listening to the murmur of water, or watching the clouds float across the sky, is hardly a waste of time." - John Lubbock I've been toying with the idea of putting together a mixtape for a while now and I think that as we (or at least I) mourn the end of Summer (today, September 21st is the last day of [...]

When music makes you feel something then it's done its job, right? Whether it's happiness from listening to an album that reminds you of your best summer with your friends, the song you and your spouse had your first dance to, or that new Justin Bieber song that reminds you of that time where you had violent diarrhea coming out of both ends. Remember that? Yeah, me too. Our Husband fall somewhere in between my first two examples. I was living back home in Edinburgh and my parents took me and my then-girlfriend on a little road trip [...]

Our Husband is a indie pop duo consisting of Nathaniel and Freya, both actually based in the south of Australia, more exactly in Adelaide. They sent me over their first single "Villages" which marks the first release from their yet to be named album. They hope to have it finished by the end of the year. "Villages" is a soft, folky pop gem with some decent country influence. Both, Nathaniel and Freya, sing in this song what makes a perfect combination! mp3 | Villages
Our submissions inbox is generally hit or miss. Sometimes I'll find a multitude of songs that are excellent; other times I'll have to go through fifty e-mails and not find anything. This morning, however, while looking for something to inspire me to write, I found this gem within the first three e-mails I read. Our [...]
Our Husband read my mind in more ways than one when they sent over their latest track 'Villages' from Southern Australia last night. Not only had I picked up the track the previous evening from somewhere on the net; Freya and Nathaniel also couldn't have picked a bigger fan of the kind of music they make. This is dreamy folk pop (think Beach House, Grizzly Bear, Venice Is Sinking), with shared vocal duties and plenty of quivering long notes. There's ethereal interludes and background cries, rushed onwards by steady drum beats and ambient guitar layering keeping the song afloat. I [...]

Well I am just about done sorting threw all this email. So tonight I will take a break and head out to the Party. For those who don't know my good friend Shane aka "Stranger Day" is having his mixtape release party tonight at Dharma Lounge.Should be festive.Anyways I have selected some of the best tunes for my mood today and some that I just feel are way to good not too share. Also for my readers who would like to share what they are thinking(current favorite music, buddies who make music, etc) We now offer a section for you to make posts. Please email all [...]

intended to do something a little dancey but haven't been able to take Our Husbands 'Villages' off repeat. Not only is it honest lo-fi but intentionally more 'abrasive pop' as noted by Nathanial (Formerly Fire! Santa Rose Fire!) who works on the track with Freya an established 'tweed pop' musician from adelaide. too much information? blah, go listen now! Our Husband - Villages 192 will find itself on the yet to be named album... labels/management enquire. Ubbs

There's nothing better than a long session of cleaning out your inbox and finding a hiddem gem of a song among the riff-raff. And such is the case with "Villages" by Our Husband . Australians Nathaniel Morse and Freya Adele really grab you with this one with their somewhat gratuitous but completely appropriate use of reverb (which is sometimes overused, but just seems so right in this case) and the way they build up the layers. It starts out simple enough with a catchy little guitar riff, but as the song progresses, more and more layers are added on, [...]
So while anyone with half-a-band, within a 50mile radius from the beach starts adopting "surf" and "chillwave" as their "new sound", the folks over at the warm pacific waters on the Australian coast of Adelaide are cooling down with moody, slow-fi guitar pop. I hate to say this, but it's so refreshing. I know there will probably be a few more posts on these chillwave bands, with the exception of a few, some of them are still quite awesome. Its just that sometimes you crave for something different to what's on offer at the moment. [...]

Woke up this morning to find this sad, twee `woodland hymn from Australia in my inbox. The guitar has that sad, repetitive tangle of twinkling guitar and Freya's moaning vocals seemed to fit the foggy San Francisco morning. They're like of like Cocteau Twins meets Beach House meets Fleet Foxes. Oh, and their photo was labeled "Our Monkey" and I find that very cute. Don't know much about "Our Husband", but apparently this is their first song, with an LP in the works. After moving from cold, cold Melbourne Nathaniel (Fire! Santa Rosa, Fire! formed [...]

Australian, Our Husband who are Nathaniel and Freya, a boy/girl duo- sent over their first released entitled 'Villages' which has a soft pop, new wave kind of sound with sharp synth and beautiful boy/girl harmonies. It's got that Beach House quality and it's pleasant listen. For some reason it reminds me of something medieval, like music to a children's fantasy. On that note, apologies for being a bit MIA this passed week, a little technical difficulties LIFE stuff.. I've been a bit swamped with writing projects, but worry not- it's ketchup time and I've got a [...]

Our Husband = Villages There are a number of great couple/couple-esque duos making there way into the blog world, giving us treats and goodies in the form of poppy, dreamy, sexy, disco jams, among others. Our Husband is just doing it’s part to fill Australia’s quota of such duos. The US has plenty, i.e. KISSES , Dominant Legs , Tennis , to name a few. The UK has Summer Camp of course, so it’s only appropriate that the Aussies step it up down under. [...]
Some folky loveliness this evening. After returning from an incredible experience at Secret Garden Party , we need at least one song to calm the nerves. Australia's Our Husband aka Freya and Nathaniel have just released this, their first single from their yet-to-be-named upcoming album and it's rolling guitars and gentle melodies are perfect for our mood right now. Enjoy. Our Husband - Villages - download Download audio file (Our Husband - Villages.mp3)

It's happened yet again, just as I was about to give up on my inbox, I got to this gem from Our Husband , the project of Aussies Nathaniel Morse and Freya Adele. The song is called "Villages" and it is now playing for the fifth time in a row. I think what I like most about this song is the way it builds up its layers, each more beautiful than the last. It starts out with the main guitar riff, then in comes Nathaniel's powerful voice, followed by an even more soothing guitar, only to [...]

Our Husband - 'Villages' (mp3) Our Husband is a new side limb for Nathaniel Morse of Melbourne band Fire! Santa Rosa Fire! and Freya Adele of Adelaide act Bing Goes to Monaco. Woodland hymnals for melody lines, tangles of glistening guitar, Villages carves another elegant figure into the realm of narcoticised folk-pop. Freya’s spectral vocals add to the thoughtful construction of this track, leaving you feeling as if you've had your head immersed in a jar of liquid hydrogen for a week. Villages [...]
