We've made to the fat on top, or the fruit at the bottom, in other words the top ten…I bought way too many seven inch singles this year. I'm not trying to brag. It's a problem really. The seven inch is like crack to the record geek, a fleeting moment of pop perfection and then it's off to either flip the record or put on another one. This was a daunting task this year and I feel like I left out a lot of stuff, but a top 60 would have been too much and limiting it to 40 makes [...]

Following up a kickass 73 debut - led by the scorching lead track, Twelve Hundred Dollars - Outdoor Miners may be a bit older, but they refuse to leave their 902s era punk riffs and noisey melodies behind. And really, thank f*cking god.The buzz saw guitars that explode from the speakers on "Bent Brain" and shouted chorus are made to jump start a set, and the muddy, plodding noise that artfully derails the slowed tempo of "Friends With Money" seems destined to end one. [...]

Don't go googling 'Some Linxxxx' thinking it's some obscure band jumping on the trend of using multiple x's in their name. I just have some songs for everyone to check out - my day-to-day listening music that is new (and not so new). If you like the artist - go check 'em out, if not let the internet be your oyster, and go on a hunt yourself. See this as some music to put on while you have a few casual drinks before the pre drink - or some fodder for good conversation. Posted beside the link will [...]

I'm sure there will come a day when we are all scrounging around for some semblance of a new good song to listen to and coming up dry. Well , that day ain't here yet. Once again the mp32s are piling up in my head, so here's another Pop Overload to clear it out. Like the ones before, the Pop Overload is about both quantity and quality...and the bonanza continues... Don't have to call it a comeback, but Brideshead are. Germany's Brideshead [...]

Now that the 90's are a decade away, let the nostalgia trip commence. I mean that in a good way, at least for now. I kind of miss the days of actually looking forward to an album release by the likes of Pavement , Sebadoh , Build To Spill , or Number One Cup . I also miss being in college and not getting up before 10 am, procrastinating, and wasting time hanging out the radio station. Bringing all of those memories back in the rush of a 3 minute pop song [...]
Track: Outdoor Miners- Twelve-Hundred Dollars (6)Extra MP3s:Outdoor Miners- Keep Me WarmOutdoor Miners- Turn You Into Glue/outdoorminers
Ah the internet. You giveth and you taketh away. The young scamps from Alberta - known to you all as The Outdoor Miners - tried to get us a song in time for our EPs list, but their internet crapped out like the Saints last night (or, like the Steelers the last 5 f*cking weeks I guess). Alec and Peter felt so bad about it they sent over a nice little track for us to post after the fact. It's called Melony and it continues to show the potential this outfit offers up on [...]

Band:: Outdoor Miners Album:: self-titled Web:: http://www.myspace.com/outdoor miners Review:: http://www.herohill.com/2009/1 1/quick-hitters-outdoor-miners -release-7.htm Q1) What was the band's best musical moment of '09? Alec had to have surgery that had a much longer recovery time than originally expected, so we had to cancel all sorts of shit that we were looking forward to. When we were finally able to get back at it, we wrote a bunch of new songs that are probably our best yet (At least we think so). [...]
Outdoor Miners I know what you're thinking: those overdriven, sparkling angular guitars let rip, and then the vocals drops and all the familiar trait marks are there: the world weariness, the slight distortion, the leather-adorning New York accent and don't-give-a-hoot attitude - it's Spaghetti Incident-era Guns N Roses! But no, these are actually a group of young and very talented musicians from Edmonton Canada called Outdoor Miners, and they make very enjoyable garage music for us to enjoy. Outdoor Miners - Twelve Hundred Dollars ( [...]

What's that expression about the best laid plans? When it comes to blogging, when you aspire to be anything more than an aggregator of content, it's damn near impossible to talk about every band that grabs your ear. Case in point, a few months ago I was sent a 7" from a label I like, and a band I had heard nothing but good things about and did nothing about it. Flash forward to yesterday and that email still sat in my inbox with a star beside it. Pop Echo is a small [...]

Outdoor Miners - "Turn You Into Glue" It's a bit late to be making additions to my list of melancholy summer jams, so this will just have to settle for being a charming and bittersweet pop tune. Here's a couple others: Irma Thomas - "Cry On" Phoenix - "Rome" (Neighbors Remix w/Devendra Banhart) ****
Wire - Outdoor Miner An oldie, but one I have to admit not being familiar with before seeing a YouTube video of two guys giving it a ukulele rendition on Sammy's Tunes (posted below). It's a short, simple and classic pop song - the best kind, of course, and just what you need on Monday. The original video: [...]
