The idea of artists collaborating digitally from thousands of miles away has always intrigued me. Imagine the thrill (or dismay) when you get that (1) in your inbox and awaiting you is added layers to a particular track or musical moment that you've labored over. Nik Brinkman, half of the successful New Zealand electronic duo Over the Atlantic, and Ale Cohen, previously of LA's Dublab and Languis, have done just that with their latest project, Psychic Powers . "Brighter" is the second single from their forthcoming debut LP, Infinity , which will hit stores [...]

Here's a new single from Sweden's lovely Friday Bridge : Friday Bridge - Shanghai Shipping (MP3) Check the homepage for a few remixes of the song. The new album will be released on March 11th next year. And Sweden is where the Labrador resides, and he throws us a bone in the form of [...]

Not The Worst Band In The World Way back when, my first introduction to Over The Atlantic was via an American music blog calling their song 'Fly To The States' the most boring song ever made. While I don't agree that it's the most boring song ever made, I do agree that it's not the most exciting. A few years later I finally saw Over The Atlantic live and to my surprise they were very good. Having paved their music career mostly in countries other than [...]
Every once in a blue moon, we notice a pattern developing with the artists featured on MML and make an attempt to organize somewhat of a quick reference guide for those who may have just stumbled upon our little music blog. In May 2007, we presented the Shoe(gaze) Cupboard which was a compilation of artists who create music from a particular genre we love. Following the internet(s) attention

Audiversity's weekly column, slightly modified, on random music in a predetermined number of words between 1 & 150. This week's randomly generated number: 102. MA: I have always liked Jackie DeShannon 's "What the World Needs Now is Love" . With its relatively simple and lush arrangement (that melody-echoing trombone is so perfect it's ridiculous), I always wondered whether the Bacharach/David tune was written as influenced by Brian Wilson or did it act as an inspiration for his similar compositions on Pet [...]

Today, we sail South down the Pacific Ocean to New Zealand to tune into Over The Atlantic—a couple young lads recording music that's completely unhip compared to today's standards. I mean none of the kids are doing this. As far as I can tell, most of the kids this age are still styling out their jet-black hair curtains and whispering/screaming, wearing their bloodied emotions on their sleeves. I was never cool in school, so I'm always glad to find fellow geeks, the kind that that lock themselves in their rooms and record their own music videos . [...]
Just a quick (but important) note to say that some of the bands we've asked if we can feature and requests that have been submitted to us are backed up here at the moment. My work has also been insane, so if I haven't featured your music it isn't because I've forgotten about you. There are some I want to get to and I will for sure. I'm doing the best I can without having to do

New Zealand Over The Atlantic is the work of Nik Brinkman and Bevan Smith. After two and a half years of recording and re-recording we receive the gift that is Junica . It’s a delicious little pop record that is structured perfectly in every way. First getting a release in their homeland from Involve Records , Junica will now be available here in the States through Carpark Records on September 19. "I [...]

Untitled Document Its such a ridiculously hot summer that I wanted to listen to some music that would remind of sitting in my apartment when it cold and raining out. It usually means that the tracks are a little melancholic and laid back but I think we could all use a cold breather. By the way, I am going up to the lake this weekend and nature absolutely [...]

Untitled Document In the days when I used to get CD's all the time and didnt have the hastle/blessing of an MP3 player, I would just put a CD in an listen to the whole thing. Now Im constantly looking for the next song to put before the one Im [...]
At some point, the lap-pop subgenre of indie rock became a term interchangeable with IDM, which literally means "Intelligent Dance Music." This switch occurred undoubtedly because the old name was one of the worst abbreviations ever created by humans (it's inherently condescending to not only musicians whose music was not "intelligent" enough to be [...]
