Owl City, the electronic twee-pop brainchild of Adam Young, introduced its latest creation, the charmingly whimsical yet underwhelmingly saccharine Ocean Eyes, on July 28. While the introduction of Owl City has been rife with persistent comparisons to the Postal Service (which I myself have indulged in), on closer inspection these comparisons fall far from the [...]
As I checked the mail today I was excited to see that Stunt, the press company managing Owl City, had sent me a copy of Ocean Eyes. While it was an album that was certainly in line for a review, it's always nice to get contacted for free stuff, so big thanks goes out there. And while I am obligated to do a review out of courtesy, this album is terrific in it's own right, and I'm more than happy to write this. So with all the personal blogging out of the way, let's get down to the nitty gritty. [...]

Here are some completely different songs I've come across recently that have intrigued me. I don't quite know what I feel about the Owl City song just yet, but I like the Miike Snow song a fair bit already. The Owl City song gives me a weird vibe I can't put my finger on. No one ever responds to this question but...any thoughts? Miike Snow - Animal (mp3) from Miike Snow Owl City - Fireflies (mp3) from Ocean Eyes

Yeahhhh, sooo... Not much to talk about here, folks. Move right along. Okay, actually that Starflyer 59 release is a 2-disc collection of b-sides and such that were only available on vinyl til now. It's pretty good. And Neon Horse , that "mystery band" that's really just a bunch of dudes from other former Tooth & Nail bands has their second album out. It's fun times. Also, Owl City is pretty decent, as are Amadou & Miriam , YACHT and Cave In (if [...]

Moby announces Myth date, Toki Wright performs for The Current & Dan Wilson sits in on the "Hoot."

Owl City , once known as Adam Young, is a pop crafter carelessly strumming his way along the border between the lands of Twee and Powerpop territory, careful not to be caught on the wrong side by anyone that comes along. When trouble is spotted in the distance, he can always ascend above the treetops and spend the afternoon in his hot air balloon. Leave your jacket behind, clouds wouldn't dare come between the sunshine and Owl City. Owl City's Hot Air Balloon digital single is available now, and his new full-length drops July 14 on [...]

My parents had strange rules about concerts. Due to their fears that I would fall prey to drugs, sex and alcohol or die in a mosh pit, I was not allowed to go to a music concert until I was 18. Even once I turned 18, I was nervous they would not let me go to a show until I was out of the house. A month after my 18th birthday they finally found a show they approved of for my first concert. It was a band called Relient K . They approved because of [...]
