Woah, I just got blown away listening to Wake! Owl , for the first time. The Vancouver indie folk artist, has traces of The Tallest Man On Earth and Bright Eyes, and gives it a more whole product than either one of those two. The melodies are simply stunning, the lyrics are heartbreaking, and think we might be seeing a Canadian star in the making. The Four Owls - made up of Big Owl, Rusty Take-Off, Bird T and Deformed Wing - are the latest act to fly out of the High Focus coop. Not Like Before sees them don slightly kinky-looking face masks and take it to the woods.
Jack Colwell's sound is similar to Patrick Wolf's but more organic and thankfully less dramatic. With Glee songs playing in shops and whatnot all the time I really need a little less drama in my songs lately. As well as announcing they will play the Roadburn Festival in Holland on April 12th next year ( details here ) Barn Owl have also released their new video, 'Turiya' which you can see below. The band will also play Shoreditch's Hoxton Square Bar and Kitchen on the 19th November.
On December 6th, Breathe Owl Breathe will be releasing a 7" for the singles "The Listeners" and "These Train Tracks," along with a children's book that was written, illustrated, carved, and printed by BOB's Micah Middaugh . Because each canvas-covered volume is being handcrafted and assembled by the band, the release will be limited to 750 copies. Pre-orders are currently available here .
