We are still amused at the album cover of the group that is fast becoming some sort of college sensation. They have Burj Al Arab right on the album cover. The track "Fireflies" is on top of the download charts! Posted in Beats, Clip, Yankee Panky Tagged: chart, city, download, fireflies, owl, video, watch

The second installment of A Retrospective, in which I recap my favorite albums released from 2000 to 2008, this time: 2001. Wrought with turmoil and watching a life fall apart as so many others were having similar experiences but in a different manner; that was 2001 for you. The year I turned 21 (hence the wine bottle photo above). A year that lives in infamy. Young or old, we all seemed to grow up that year. Music, too seemed to progress in ways unthought, even before that fateful day. [...]

THE RUMBLE: SAN FRANCISCO TURNS 2 YEARS OLD TONIGHT? Two years???? WTF? How did it happen? The little party meant to bring together the Bay area indie rock community lasted two years? It started as an indie dance party, then added one band each party, then up to two acts performing, and the future looks like three bands + DJ's. [...]

The seven-piece dynamo that is UNITED STATE OF ELECTRONICA are driving through Weed, CA in a fury to reach San Francisco this evening after killing it in Portland last evening at The Rumble: Portland. Tonight they cram into Harlot for THE RUMBLE: SAN FRANCISCO and we're still not sure how they'll all fit, but they'll probably take over the dance floor as well in more ways than one. Seems like a lot of American acts are being mistakenly labeled as Irish or Scottish sounding these days. In this older interview , The Owls discuss the emergence of the "Minneapolis grunge" scene a few years back, Magic Markers' feyness, stinky basses and being compared to Camera Obscura. The Owls will be performing at the American Legion in Fargo North Dakota on May 9th. The Owls : The Way On.mp3

Remember how Sufjan Stevens was gonna do an album for every state? I think he's done like two in six years. C'mon man. Illustrator, writer, and designer, Frank Chimero , has been turning the silhouettes of our 50 states into animals and other stuff for only a year. He's already done 17. Take that, Sufjan. See all of Chris' states here . Or snag prints here . BONUS SOUNDTRACK : Sufjan Stevens "Come On! Feel The Illinoise!" from Illinois [...]

Our resident film-square-girl, Alyssa Kleven (see our live footage), was recently asked to suggest a few kid-safe tunes for a friend that had grown weary of listening endlessly to Hannah Montana overhead while she worked at her day job, teaching art to four-to-eight year olds. Just a few songs? Well, she might have gone a little overboard. Grab a swirly straw and a juice box and enjoy over the weekend. *MP3: The Go! ![Owls: Daughters And Suns [Album Review]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/1654672_lg.jpg)
Despite being released in 2004, “Air” off Our Hopes And Dreams by The Owls was one of the frequented songs in my playlist last summer. The song maintains its pedestal spot as "Best Song By The Owls," despite the recent release of Daughters And Suns . But where Our Hopes And Dreams as a whole maintained brevity in terms of my attention, Daughters And Suns finds the Minneapolis band with many more repeat plays. The biggest difference between Our Hopes [...]

Get over to http://sonicliving.com/therumb le-LA and RSVP so you get into THE RUMBLE: LA for free tonight, or else don't both texting me at show time for the list - accept your fate and pay your $5 (it goes to the bands anyway). Who's playing? RADEMACHER bring their indie rock magic to the 3 Clubs in Hollywood, playing songs off their 'Stunts' album and some new surprises. All the way from Austin, Texas, THE FRONTIER BROTHERS [...]

Our posse hooked up with THE BAY BRIDGED for tonight's RUMBLE: SF at Harlot (46 Minna Street) and they linked us to LEOPOLD & HIS FICTION - a Bay area band that should be showing up everywhere soon enough. Norway's SIMON SAYS NO are also experiencing Haight Street at this moment, gearing up for their late night set this evening - I saw a Twitter from them that they were knee-deep in a drum circle on Hippie Hill already this [...]

Next Thursday night in Los Angeles, THE RUMBLE: LA returns for the April installment at 3 Club s with three great bands and our resident DJ's MiCHAEL , fresh from their SXSW trip where they killed it at HOT FREAKS and the PURE VOLUME closing night party. RADEMACHER , a band we've loved since stumbling on them in July of 2005 are finally getting the credit and attention they deserve, and are headlining the [...]
