This week is National Bike Week in Ireland (June 14-21). According to its website, it is a week devoted to "a series of nationwide events organised by cycling groups, communities and local authorities supported by the Department of Transport." These events have included inititiaves aimed at getting Irish workers to cycle to work instead of taking their cars, free bike check ups, and sponsored cycles and races. In tandem with National Bike Week, the Department of Transport hope to implement the first National Cycle Policy Framework in this country. One of its main goals is to [...]

Last week, we were on a bit of a music video kick at Mind Inversion, and it seems that this is turning out to be the week of the album pre-release streams. Yesterday , we were pleased to help spread the word about the first chance to listen to The Eternal from Sonic Youth, and today were are proud to link to a stream of Ox from Coalesce , an album that sees the legendary metallic hardcore reunite as well as reinvent themselves while maintaining their impeccable and unpredictable chops. Listen at [...]

The artwork above was found at Colorcubic , an ultra-hip design firm that handles multimedia, print, branding, etc. This poster will be made available in their online store. We may say good riddance to 2008 as a nation, but as we posted our top 50 albums of 2008 , it was easy to reflect on an amazing year in music. I have a feeling 2009 will be even better. Here are the albums we're looking forward to in the new year. 1. The Deep Dark Woods - Winter Hours (January [...]

As Oz and I tirelessly compile our list of 2008's top 50 albums, we continue to bring up 2007 releases that were inexplicably left off last year's list. Let's chalk it up to rookie blogging or heads up asses. The good news is that most of the acts listed below have releases coming out in '09. Our best EP's of '08 will be out tomorrow and watch out for the top 50 albums of '08 next week. 1. The Everybodyfields - Nothing Is Okay I am so pissed that [...]

(weework) website Over the last few years, we've talked nonstop about the great releases coming out on ( weework ). After covering artists like The Burning Hell , Great Lake Swimmers , Two Minute Miracles , The FemBots , The UnSettlers , The United Steel Workers of Montreal and Don Brownrigg , you might assume we've covered all of the acts you need to know in the (weework) family. In all honesty, I did, and that's why I waited so long to review this terrific collection of songs. [...]

(weewerk) records just turned 6 years old is releasing a compilation of rare and unreleased tracks from several of their artists, including Ox, Great Lake Swimmers, and the Fembots. I'm not a huge fan of compilations, but I am a fan of the label and its artists. Ox is the perfect band to take a nap to. Ox - Burn Out Fembots - In The Red

(weewerk) records , (no, the lower case letters and parentheses are not a type-o) Canada's favourite folk and alt-country label, is celebrating six years of releasing fantastic music with a special compilation album featuring their stable of artists, including Great Lake Swimmers, Fembots, Two-Minute Miracles, and Audiotransparent. QBiM is happy to be joining in on the celebrations. Thanks to the fine folks at (weewerk), we have three prize packs consisting of a copy of the compilation CD, (weewerk) is 6! , and Tony Dekker of Great Lake Swimmers' soundtrack EP to the documentary Song [...]
Besides being one of the most prolific producers of our time, Madlib is easily one of the hardest working producers in the music business right now. After releasing the third and fourth installments of his Beat Konducta series as one project, Beat Konducta In India , last year, the great Madlib produced the Erykah Badu hit "Healer" earlier this year and recently released another stellar jazz-fusion project with Ivan "Mamão" Conti, under the name Jackson Conti. You thought Madlib was spent for 2008? Think again, because it looks like the fall is going to be an excellent season for [...]

Recently I had to reformat my mp3 player and quickly threw a slew of songs into the player. In the bunch were some older tracks by a band called Ox . And in amongst those was this cover of Cheap Trick's "Surrender". Give it a listen and/or download... come to think of it, try out the rest, as well. Pssst... that's a new * Franz Ferdinand track sitting down there. ox surrender ox [...]

Hans Bernhard - Self Portrait (2002) "have you ever felt the real randomness in full control and in full impact? time changes direction, constantly, 4 dimensionally, the backvector works against the waterflow of time as we agreed on knowing it, the feeling of randomness takes control over ratio and emotions, one touch of your hand could lead to something else somewhere else by someone else [...]
Well, personal concerns have kept me away from the internet for awhile (gasp) but ye olde show must go on. Ryan from Burly Time sent me some bright, beautiful instrumental pieces by a Detroit guitarist named Nick Schillace. Very laid back, exceptional listening for the stressful time I have had the last couple weeks. Of course today I was listening again and my brain said, "'19762 ... wait, isn't there a song called '19742?" Which of course caused a mad scramble through my CDs, and this post. 01. Nick Schillace - 1976 [...]

Date: March 7, 2008 Venue: The Silver Dollar Room Another day and more Canadian Music Week coverage-only a few more posts left on the subject, so bear with me. This time around I'm delving into the Weewerk showcase at the Silver Dollar Room last Friday night. I'll try to keep this fairly concise, as I've posted a video of both Jenny Omnichord and The Burning Hell a few days ago [...]
I'm spent. There's nothing more I can say about the Canadian band OX . They have a new record coming out on Weewerk in Canada on Oct 17. Check out what I've written before ( here , here - links still work, here ) as well as this post two weeks ago by I (Heart) Music (an amazing Canadian music site that I just added to the sidebar). "Sugar Cane" encapsulates all that is great about Ox. Primarily the looseness of the way they play/record, the beautiful analog sound [...]
It's only 9am and I'm already calling the day a wash (and as you can see, this two-line post didn't even get done till 12:30). So here's some random stuff. 1. Kékélé - Ponton La Belle 2. Okkervil River - O Dana (big star cover) 3. Ox - 1913 4. Pat Travers - Boom Boom (Out Go the Lights) live 5. Rimsky-Korsakov - Nocturne from "The Golden [...]
