The latest music issue from Believer magazine (yes, that's the band Lightning Bolt on the cover and the artwork is done, once more, by Charles Burns ) looks like it will give up it's best compilation yet this year. The rise of SXSW from a relatively unknown festival (at least for me) 2 years ago and becoming a huge worldwide acknowledged event in 2 years is pretty interesting. The problem with living in a small-ish town is simple. Bands don't stop here when they tour. And when they do, nobody comes to see them. That was certainly the case last night when Brooklyn three-piece Oxford Collapse took to the stage in front of about twenty people. Poor turnout. This CD cover just shouts fun doesn't it? Well trust me, if you buy Remember the Night Parties I can assure you, you will have fun. It represents the third album from Brooklyn three-piece Oxford Collapse and shows the band maturing into quite a force. Released late in 2006, I only recently discovered it and it is assuredly on high rotation at the moment. A lot of people have compared the bands' sound to Superchunk and I think that is apt.
