Canadian electro songstress Grimes will join indie-pop and folk luminaries Grouplove , Milo Greene , Cults and Soko on the bill for this year's Make Music Pasadena , the free daylong festival that draws more than 30,000 to the City of Roses. The diverse bill also features electro-funk guru Dam-Funk , Cambodian psych-rockers Dengue Fever , French chanteuse Jessica Fichot and Mexican singer-songwriter Gustavo Galindo . MMP goes off from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturday, June 16, at various venues in and [...]
If tonight's show list were any longer, it'd be a Phish song: ► New York's Penguin Prison brings his dancey electro-pop to the Echo, supported by American Royalty. That's Penguin Prison's Occupy Wall Street-inspired video for "Don't F*ck With My Money," above. ► M83 and Big Black Delta do a second sold-out night at Club Nokia. ► "Fela! On Tour" brings members of the Antibalas Afrobeat Orchestra and cast members from the Tony Award-winning musical to the Troubadour. ► Ozma headlines the Bootleg [...]
Ceremony, Burning Hearts, and Memory Tapes are three different artists with very different sounds. Their influences certainly intersect though, allowing the material to sound like creative odes rather than blend replications of genres and movements that are now in the past. They encompass a wide range of styles - from glam-inspired post-punk to flamboyant dance-pop - and remain interesting in the process.
Now 21 years old, David Pollack's music continues to evolve. Often an age like this marks the beginning of an aspiring music career, but this NYC-based singer/songwriter has been at it for years already. I featured Pollack nearly four years ago when he was 18 and fronting a band called Play. Even at that point, [...]

I feel fortunate to have lived through my failed launch. My zeal and determination met their match in the form of flash flooding and semi trucks. My trailer came apart, and I was forced to hang my head in shame as I limped back to Eugene. I knew I was down, but not out. I just needed the right advice. I needed to talk to someone that knew about this. [Audio clip: view full post to listen] Download: Andre Nickatina - My Name Is Money This is where Pops [...]

pic by Sam Bassett How about some fresh drum & bass tunes! I'll start with some more easy listening, liquid drum & bass before getting to the heavy hitters. This first track hasn't been released yet, but it's just too good not to share. J Majik & Wickaman - Ritual [clip] "All I Need" by Colourz is the opening track of Liquid Soldiers 2010. The vocal work reminds me of some Netsky productions, but the track definitely has its own style. [...]

Sawgood's latest EP 'Yes & No' is released on Beatport this Monday 15th November. We've been fans of the French Electro producer for a while, having previously posted some of his stuff before . This latest EP takes his already fierce sound to new levels of darkness, featuring Electro, Dubstep, 8-bit samples and Drum 'n' Bass. With remixes from Belzebass , The Mastertrons & Ozma this is definitely one not to be missed! Download the teaser below then get the full release when it comes out Monday! Sawgood - [...]
Jon Fine's best known band was Bitch Magnet, a (usually) three piece active from the late 80s to the early 90s. Though hardly a metal outfit, Fine was a vocal apostle of heavy music in the independent circles the band traveled in, deeply knowledgeable and conversant in obscure, loud shit going back to the [...]

If you haven't seen the series of Drum'N'Bass and Dubstep dancing animals on youtube, you've really been missing out. The other day my friend showed me yet another dancing parrot (which never get old) and told me he looked up who the tracks were by and found Ozma , the DNB/Jungle artist from Russia. Nu Jump Up, Jump Up, the most amazing unknown jump up, is what we found in Ozma's tracks. Ozma is artist of promising label "Audio Boutique" based in St.-Petersburg (no not St Petersburg, Florida) run by DJ ART and has been apart of multiple other [...]
Ozma - Domino Effect Ozma has been out-Weezering Rivers Cuomo for a long time, since 2000, maybe, or whenever it was that Rivers blacked out the windows of his house in CA and wrote 1,001 songs about the possible world where the songs from Pinkerton became the national anthems for imaginary countries. Ozma catch flak for being too much like Weezer, but the former band only exemplifies the spirit (okay, and some of the form) heard on Weezer's Blue Album--Ozma has always sounded like they're having fun, which I think immediately sets them apart [...]

There's a good chance Matt Sharp will always be known as the original bassist for Weezer . But he's trying to change that with his latest incarnation of The Rentals . Previous Rentals material had been closely tied to Weezer not only because the band shared two members for a while (Sharp and drummer Pat Wilson), but also because... well... the music sounded the same. But Sharp recently told Spinner that he's moving forward and forging a new path with his current band that leaves his associations [...]

Ah actors, don't you just love them? Oh, you don't? Well why? Oh, the bastard ran away with who? Oh dear. And did she ever explained? Oh money, I see. Well, besides that? Said he looked like Tom Cruise? What's that, it was Tom Cruise?! Are you sure? Isn't he like somewhere pretending to be a gay Nazi boy now? I mean Nazi. Yeah, I added the gay. Sorry. You sure it was him? Hmm isn't that like sort of a compliment knowing that your chick ran away with one of the biggest stars in the world? Yeah that's right. [...]

So I've been listening to the new Weezer album now for a while and well...... its ok ( all in all i would give it 5 out of 10 ). Im slowly coming to the realization to the fact that i don't think Weezer will ever reach the giddy heights of Pinkerton. I think my main problem with the album is that Weezer/rivers has lost some of there/his rawness and all the albums since Pinkerton ( one of my favorite albums of all time and probably the best break up album of all time ) have felt cold [...]
What a sunny, spectacular day today, don't you think? Perfect day for an afternoon nap to prepare for the weekend's events... We'd love for you to stop by The Bordello tonight but, if not, there's some other great stuff happening: American Music Club (who we can technically now call a local band) play The Echo. Big Business, 400 Blows, Qui, Crystal Antlers, and Triclops! will be putting the

Meet Spot. Spot is my newest friend. If you click on that picture, you can see a bigger version. Spot lives inside the STOP sign at the end of the street. At night, Spot comes out and hangs upside down for a few hours. I see Spot doing its thing whenever I park on the corner, and I always try to say hello and take a picture of it for my friends and family -- just to let them know how it is doing. I don't know of Spot is a boy or girl because I respect its privacy. I [...]

15. Burial – Untrue The first time I listened to "Untrue" I was immediately captivated. Dark ambient music held together by a quick beat and unknown vocalists, not something I'd picture myself listening to, but it works. The anonymous musician behind Burial says his music is like "walking home across London late at night, dreamlike, and you've still got the music kind of echoing in you, in your bloodstream, but with real life trying to get in the way." I've never walked the streets of London [...]
