Most of the new releases for this week dropped on the last day of last month, making January a pretty rad month for new releases after a relatively slow start (which is typical right after the holidays), and a great way to kick-off the 2012 music calendar. In case you missed any of IRC's Best [...] Read more, get songs or stream the entire mix on Indie Rock Cafe

Remember when Merge Records was synonymous with genre-defining indie rock and had a whole roster of bands whose albums you couldn't wait to get your hands on? Well, guess what? They still are, and do! The venerable Durham, North Carolina, label proves they're still up to their game with two releases this week in heavy rotation at KEXP. Bay Area veterans Imperial Teen return with their fifth album overall and their third on Merge, Feel the Sound , which, according to our Music Director, Don Yates, "continues to refine and expand upon their infectious blend of power-pop, [...]

If you haven't heard Lana Del Rey 's "Video Games" by now, we have a problem. The sudden stardom began last Summer and her track appeared more often than not on year-end lists. Her album Born to Die doesn't really have too much riding on it since people love her already, and so do we. Oh, and the other groups we mention this week just so happened to be incredible awesome - just check out the mp3s below. Exdetectives come from out of nowhere with Take My Forever . This solo project of [...]

PacificUV releases the new Weekends LP tomorrow (January 31st) off Mazarine Records. The album mixes ethereal shoegaze sounds with electropop and features guest appearances from members of Montreal and The Olivia Tremor Control. I'm digging the single entitled "Funny Girl," which houses a unique surreal vibe that really captures the album's essence.

Pacific UV premiered another new track from Weekends . Get lost in the vocoder worshipping "Ballerina" in preparation for the new album which drops January 31st pacificUV - Ballerina by brooklynvegan

2011 has came and gone. Here's a list of bands that I'm anticipating hearing from this year. Some are concrete, some are hopeful speculation, either way this year is going to be awesome. Aesop Rock // TBA In a recent AMA on reddit , Aes confirmed he's nearing completion of his new record. Fingers crossed we'll be hearing more soon Andy Hull / Jesse Coppenbarger Split // TBA After posting this footage of Colour Revolt and Manchester Orchestra's [...]
Arabesque art is known for contemplative properties, encouraging viewers to stare at the pieces for hours, trying to find truth and God. pacificUV's new single, "Funny Girl," bears a strong resemblance to the Arabesque, entrancing the listener with a catchy, labyrinthine synth beat that becomes more complex over time. The duo responsible has aged since its [...]

Formados en Athens a finales de los 90, pacificUV han evolucionado hacia un electro pop más melódico en su nuevo y tercer álbum. El disco se llama Weekends y se publicará el próximo 31 de enero de 2012. En él han colaborado B.P. Helium (of Montreal) y John Fernandez (Olivia Tremor Control). Funny Girl es el single. Mp3: pacificUV. Funny Girl

pacificUV was formed in the late 1990's in Athens, Georgia. Half the band wanted to sound like a psychedelic Jesus and Mary Chain tripping on Nyquil, while the other half wanted to play one chord for 45 minutes to determine its color. Somehow, what emerged from these disparate goals was their critically acclaimed, 4 years in the making, self-titled debut album that Rolling Stone called a "masterpiece". The perfect mixture of noise and melody, the first LP was a sprawling ambient landscape that revealed a myriad of influences, from shoegaze to 60's rock, to slow core to post-rock. [...]

Last week I posted Pacific UV's dreamy cover of The Smiths classic "Please Please Please" . Today the band followed up on that with details on their forthcoming full-length. Weekends will be released January 31st via Mazarine Records. That's the artwork above. The band have also premiered the first song from the new record. "Funny Girl" is a departure from the euphoric ambient shoegaze these guys have been known for. The tune instead takes a dive directly into some [...]

So I've been embarrassingly behind on keeping up with my inbox and upon (trying) to clean them up this morning, I came across this little gem from one of my favorite bands. Pacific UV released the new Chrysalis EP a a little over a month ago, containing some new tracks, remixes and this dreamy cover of The Smiths classic "Please Please Please (Let Me Get What I Want)" . Better yet, the band have made the whole EP available for free here and will also be [...]

The Top of the Top list, "Love More Than Music," will be up in a few days, and then, following it, will come my "favorite of the year" post. So stay tuned! Here's this part: Love More (<3) Pacific UV - Longplay 2 My buddy JJ once explained to me, when I asked what this band sounded like before he introduced me to them around the time their first one came out, that this band sounds like Explosions in the Sky and Death Cab For Cutie mixed. I have to admit that I was going to do something totally different for this week's mix. Then I found this song from Gang Gang Dance and knew that the mix just needed 9 supporting tracks. The southwest U.S. has been experiencing a gawd-awful heatwave for the past week, and on top of that, Indie Mom and I had to go to the desert where it was officially 116 degrees but unofficially probably hotter than that. Time to crank up a mix of hot music. I love making song mixes, which you might not know because I don't do nearly enough of it here. I wish I had discovered Two Hours' Traffic's album Little Jabs last year when it came out. There are lots of good songs on [...]
