Right from the start, you know where you are—the slow building drones, restrained drums, that bass line used by many pre-Britpop Anglophiles. This is shoegaze territory, no doubt about it. As a genre, there hasn't been much of a progression in, say, about 15 years but anyone expecting another Loveless should just cut their losses now and shell out a months rent for tickets to the European MBV reunion tour. Pacific UV, like so many these days, are Portland transplants, but a few listens to "Need" shows that band leader Clay Jordan has taken cues from another early [...]
Pacific UV had a new album released on February 19 of this year and it's a shame I missed the launch. Granted this disc will not be for everyone. It will appeal to people who love Sigur Ros but wish Jonsi sang in English. Fans of minimalism, simple melodies combined with sweeping soundscapes, or songs that seem destined to be the soundtrack to your life, they will all instantly fall in love with this album. From the opening note of Alarmist to the final farewell of Ljiv there is not a moment wasted on the aptly named Pacific UV album, [...]

Good stuff! Wish I could say more. The Shondes The Red Sea is the self-released debut album of Brooklyn's The Shondes . Their press blurb says: "Their songwriting fuses the various musical traditions of feminist punk, classical, Jewish, and queercore..." I don't know what queercore is, but I can tell you that Elijah Oberman totally shreds soundwaves with his violin on "Let's Go," and co-vocalist Louisa Solomon has a voice that [...]
If like me you preferred it when Spiritualized laid off the gospel and stuck with the reverb ('Lazer Guided Melodies' and 'Pure Phase' in other words) then Pacific UV could well be about to brighten up your collection. The bands new album 'Longplay 2' is due to be released at the end of the month and it comes a full 5 years after their debut 'Longplay 1'. There has been significant line up

Meðfylgjandi er ansi vænt og bragðgott smakk. what is going on people? me? i had to get a crown yesterday, which was all kinds of awesome. so, now for the next 3 weeks i really cant chew anything to hard for fear of it falling out. other then that, i got shit.. the men and ladies over at line of best fit recently unveiled their monthly mix tape so why the hell not check it out. one of my top 3 favorite bands, centro-matic, is doing something pretty cool for their upcoming dual hawks , which is a two record [...]

Founded in 1998, pacificUV was formed by Clay Jordan and Howard Hudson. Their debut album, longplay 1 , was released in 2002 and shortly after their tour supporting their album; co-founder Howard Hudson left the band. The album received widespread praise from The Big Takeover and Rolling Stone, which called the album "a masterpiece." After releasing their follow-up EP , Jordan relocated to Portland from Athens, Georgia. In April 2008, pacificUV, now comprised of Jordan and bandmates Mike Irwin on keyboards, Matt Kline on bass, and Jesse Robert on drums, [...]

Download: Pacific UV—"50s" MP3 Former Athenians, current Portlandians (is that what they are called?), Pacific UV make a triumphant return with their new EP (appropriately titled EP ) of reverb-heavy deliciousness. Like the bastard spawn of Phil Spector and Spiritualized, Pacific UV put out a record in 2003 that, um, I played drums and keyboards on. So I guess I'm biased here. Hey! I had nothing to do with this track, which is a damned shame, really, as it might just be one of the best the band has ever [...]

Dunno much about Pacific UV 's body of work . . . I've only heard this one song, "50s," off their EP on the WARM label. But I dig it. Kind of like 90s Neil Young only totally not like that. Huh? Pacific UV—50s .

The Lemonheads / The Lemonheads ( Vagrant ) Convention usually dictates that comeback albums are low-key, acoustic affairs while the artist feels out where they and the current music scene are, respective to one another. Evan Dando already did that with 2004's Baby, I'm Bored - released under his own name - so when he decided to dust off the old Lemonheads name, it was with an ear to plugging in and turning up. Recruiting the rhythm section from Australian [...]
