I CAN LICK ANY SONOFABITCH IN THE HOUSE, SEPARATION OF SANITY, JACKRABBIT, MATT WOODS ( Dante's , 350 W Burnside) "They don't make men like Andy Griffith anymore," sings I Can Lick Any Sonofabitch in the House's grizzled frontman Mike Damron on his band's new LP, Mayberry . It could be argued that they don't make guys like Damron anymore either. The band's long been a staple of the Northwest's Southern-fried punk underground, sharing stages with such touring acts as Drag the River, Two Cow Garage, and more. On their new album, ICLASOBITH treads familiar territory: [...]

photos by Jonathon Bernstein Ruby Suns @ Knitting Factory, 3/2/2013 Q: Can you tell me a little about the new album "Christopher"? A: Breakup, crappiness, tinges of optimism, freedom, lack of employability. Those are just a handful of the themes. The main idea though was to create a totally different record from anything we've done before in terms of lyrics, songwriting and production. ... Q: Sub Pop Records has been so [...]

I saw Painted Palms open for of Montreal nearly two years ago at this point, not long after their stellar, six-song EP made its way into my possession and I listened to it non-stop. Even now, "All Of Us" still makes its way onto various mixes. The concert left me unimpressed, however; the band seemed a little off that night, and largely bored during the performance. (To be fair, Rochester isn't always the most exciting place to be on a Tuesday at the end of April.) That said, I'm not the type to write a band off based on [...]

Bay area duo, Painted Palms is the musical side project of cousins Reese Donohue and Chris Prudhomme. As song ideas were passed back and fourth through numerous emails, it wasn't until of Montreal frontman Kevin Barnes discovered their EP and invited them to open up for of Montreal on a nationwide tour. With the re-release of their originally self-released EP, Canopy on Secretly Canadian, Painted Palms spent the majority of 2012 writing and recording their debut album (expected for release in 2013). Their music [...]
Painted Palms are a band that have played the opening role to numerous touring acts coming through town like Of Montreal and Starfucker , to name a few. To be honest, I've never paid much attention to the band until today when I found myself jamming along to this new song "Click". It's a bright and sunny pop song that could easily be compared to the aforementioned bands that they've toured with in Austin. However you want to describe or compare it, you can't deny that you're already bobbing your head with that catchy ass beat. This [...]

Polyvinyl has decided to put together a new digital sampler to give you a taste of their recent + upcoming releases. All you have to do, is give them your e-email address HERE & it’s yours for free. This is one of the best samplers I’ve heard. Take a peek & stream it below.
I don't think they have a visual for this song, but a live version will do justice. Painted Palms is originally from San Francisco, and are a part of Secretly Canadian, an independent record label stationed here at my home base in Bloomington, IN. They give off an awesome poppy, electronic vibe that you can get down to, like Neon Indian or Starfucker. Enjoy this live version of "All Of Us" from the KEXP studio. Painted Palms - Canopy EP

This is what our pop culture media hubs gave us this week: Keeping fans on "A Tattered Line of String" for the new Postal Service single, we watched the wrestling antics of the much hyped Tyler, the Creator single "Domo 23", Passion Pit got "Carried Away", ignored Bieber v. Black Keys beefs, and feigned excitement for Lana Del Rey's "Burning Desire" toward car commercial pop commodities. Believe the hype if you want to, but we got a whole week for you ...

Painted Palms caught my attention with their single "Carousel" . They're releasing it on a 73 single via Polyvinyl. They have now shared the single's b-side, "Click". The clear backing vocals will reel you in immediately, and once that bassline comes in: game over. This is the rare moment where a b-side rivals, if not outdoes, it's a-side. Or maybe Painted Palms are just that good. Take a listen below, and grab the 73 here .
