Call me crazy, but I am excited for this show. The Killers are coming to the Horseshoe Casino in Southern Indiana on August 8th as part of the Summer Concert Series they have in their big, outdoor amphitheater. I was a huge Killers fan after Hot Fuss . Then came Sam's Town , and I didn't fall in love with the album, but I could appreciate it for what it was - - a follow-up to a fantastic album. I eagerly awaited the release of their third album, Day & Age , only [...]

been listening to mr will oldham and his many monikers quite a bit lately. one thing i have come to realize about his music that i didnt when i started listening to him, many moons ago, is that while most of his songs sound absolutely dreadful and solemn they are actually quite uplifting, in a sense. just started to understand this about him and his work recently. anyone else get that same feeling? here he is as will oldham performing on kusf-fm, san francisco on 10.8.98. in rar format 1. [...]
Totally running late on this: Moulinex and Louis La Roche are playing Caravan Disco in St.Gallen, Switzerland tonight! The party is happening at Palace , a former (movie) theater with plush seats still in their place. Switzerland's own Pimp The System and Caravan Disco DJs will heat up the atmosphere before the big guys from Portugal and the UK take over. Lots of big synth and french house, or whatever you want to call it. I'm really excited to see Moulinex and Louis La Roche. (You know, [...]
Photos by Leeland Kessler We didn't get to go to this sold out show at The Palace on January 20th, but here are a few reactions from some friends who went: They quit serving beer way too early T The lights were by far the most intense and colorful than ever for a KOL show...like the Secret Machines who opened for them a few years ago at the Ryman in Nashville. They varied from the album versions of songs a bit, something for which they have been criticized [...]

Hendrix, Allman and King topped Rolling Stones' top 100 guitarists of all time . Now, at 83, BB King is setting out on a huge tour and will be displaying his legendary talent here in Louisville at The Palace on February 15, 2009. Tickets are 60 and 80 bucks, depending on the seat and you can get them here or at The Palace. Even with the price, this one is hard to pass up. Start saving. BB King - Ain't Nobody's Business [...]

Kings of Leon will be playing at The Palace in Louisville, Kentucky on January 20, 2009. Tickets are a pricey $36 bucks and are on-sale now . About Kings of Leon: Initially embraced as "the Southern Strokes" for their resurrection and reinvention of Dixie-styled rock & roll, Kings of Leon steadily morphed themselves into an experimental rock outfit during the 2000s. The Tennessee-bred quartet debuted in 2003 with the Holy Roller Novocaine EP, whose blend of raw, unpolished boogie rock was further explored on their debut full-length, Youth & Young Manhood. Such [...]

It might be unknown to some, but Chuck Inglish - one half of neon-hued Chicago hip-hoppers Cool Kids - originally hails from Detroit. Those in the know, however, are going to get a healthy reminder of Inglish's hometown pride during a verse from Cool Kids' "Pennies"; a verse that is dedicated almost entirely to Bad Boys-era Detroit Pistons. Shout outs to Chuck Daily (aka "Daddy Rich"), Auburn Hills, MI ("home of the Palace" obvs), and our boy Isaiah Thomas not only remind us of how awesome it was to be alive in 1989 and [...]

Concert attended and reviewed by Panic Manual correspondent Karen Parker (Toronto) I discovered Bon Ivers' (Justin Vernon) album For Emma: Forever Ago after hearing one of his songs featured on an episode of Grey's Anatomy……don't' judge me. I instantly loved the "sound of a man left alone with his guitar and his memories" (Pitchfork). And when I discovered that he had isolated himself in the woods for four months to write it….I lost my mind. It was like all my fantasies had been rolled into one big [...]
Today I received this response to the letter I sent Carl's Jr. last evening: "We have received your message. Thank you for contacting us. [THREAD ID: 1-GMIXET]" I can only imagine that "[THREAD ID: 1-GMIXET]" means that the president of the company's head exploded from fear, and I'm going to be the sole heir to his fortune. Yup, my guess is that's exactly what it means... Today you get to see pictures from the zoo. Oh man, you're going to love them. I'll even include some witty commentary. The first exhibit we [...]

Time to get your weekly fix of timeless tunes in Friday´s grab bag again. Here´s a healthy diet of songs that mattered to me over the past seven days, featuring some wild banjo stuff, some pure pop and a Dutch treat amongst others. Like Captain Beefheart said: "You can physically drown in paint, you can mentally drown in music..." Here´s your lifeline. Let´s kick off tonight´s proceedings with Palace, a former nom de plume of the great Will Oldham (aka Bonnie Prince Billy). Here he uses a song by southern rockers Lynyrd [...]
Dear friends, I touched upon this song already in this old post, so today I'll just say listen and enjoy the prairie wind goodness of this uncharacteristically wistful number from Palace Music aka Will Oldham aka Bonnie "Prince" Billy. New Partner/Palace Music (mp3) Purchase Viva Last Blues by Palace Music. Love, D

Schade eigentlich. Oh und man nehme diesen [...]
photo by steve gullick ok, i have been silent for way too long! what in the hell is going on with blair and the jealous sound? anyone know? their classic kill them with kindness was released in 03 for christ sake! i could have put out at least two records, and i suck. well, at least [...]

photo by Renaud Monfourny The following are my favourite Will Oldham tunes from his pre-Bonnie "Prince" Billy days, paired with some of my random thoughts. . . . Palace Music - The Brute Choir Let's start with the best. "The Brute Choir" is the greatest song Will Oldham has written. If you only ever hear one Will Oldham song, this should be it. Palace - You Have Cum in Your Hair and Your [...]

So my lovefest for all things Bonnie Prince Billy isn't exactly a secret. However, it did take me an alarming number of listens to really get his collaboration with Tortoise. Maybe it's because it was covers and the words just weren't typical Will or something, but it never hit me until about a month ago. Late one night while working on a painting this track came on (random shuffle style) and it was absolutely perfect. So Oldham's trend of brilliance continues (at least in my mind). ::: Tortoise & Bonnie Prince Billy - [...]

For those of us still in school (a.k.a., me), finals start tomorrow. So today might as well be a weekend, which means we're well overdue for a little Rob. Dizzie Gillespie and Stan Getz - "It Don't Mean A Thing (If It Ain't Got That Swing)": mp3 Stan Getz is one of my favorite jazz musicians because of his tone and expressiveness. I've only really heard him in a bossa nova context though, so listening to him tear it up on Diz and Getz has been a real eye-opener. Guy [...]
