Paleface is a presence woven so deeply into the fabric of the indie-folk/anti-folk/pop-folk/ whatever-you-want-to-call-it-f olk scene that it's difficult to find a related artist whom he's not associated with in some way. Taught to write songs by Daniel Johnston, managed by the godfather of American punk Danny Fields, and one-time roommates with Beck, he has been diligently building up an arsenal of songs since 1989. If he's not contributing to the next Avett Brothers' album or making friends with Regina Spektor, then he's probably hard at work on his next project. Since 1989, he's released over fifteen albums and has been an [...]

Joensuun ylpeys Ilosaarirock vietti 40-vuotisjuhliaan vahvan kotimaisen kattauksen kera.

Chris Bathgate appeared on NPR's World Cafe today. There he and his band performed several tracks off of one of 20112s best Salt Year . Listen to the show and then watch the Halfway House Session : Watch: Mr Bathgate plays both the Midwest Fest (Mount Pleasant) and the Boiling Pot Festival (Kzoo) later this Summer. But you can catch him before that when [...]

Photo by Staton Carte r As the North Carolina-based duo begins its five-date Florida tour, Paleface , the duo and its namesake guitarist, continues its push from the perimeter of the music scene to a spotlight. Probably best known for his associations - such as learning songwriting from Daniel Johnston , influencing Beck and Kimya Dawson , helping create the anti-folk scene and writing for the [...]

Concord-via-Brooklyn singer Paleface will also be in town Thursday at the Pour House. He and drummer/girlfriend Monica Samalot have a new album out on Ramseur Records called "One Big Party." Here's my favorite song from the record, "She's So." Check it out! Paleface - "She's So"

I'm a little embarrassed for dropping the ball on Paleface a few weeks back when he was doing his thing in Newport, KY. First, a little background info. Paleface (the band) is a hyper-kinetic, indie-folk duo featuring Paleface and drummer Monica "Mo" Samalot. Paleface (the man) is an old school Beck-esque protege of Daniel Johnson, who was discovered by punk impresario, Danny Fields (The Ramones, The Stooges, MC5). And while he can claim a couple major label releases and tours with The Breeders and Billy Bragg, most folks' familiarity with him is [...]

Paleface [photo by Crackerfarm] Paleface's love letter to The Big Apple, the video for "New York, New York" made its premiere earlier this week on Magnet Magazine . The song appears on Paleface's latest album The Show is On the Road which was released last year on Ramseur Records . Now based out of North Carolina, the duo (which includes drummer girlfriend Mo' Samalot and ol' PF himself) are racking up those highway miles with a number of upcoming East Coast tour dates on [...]

this reggae mix of the paleface/kyla jam has us on our UK shit. kilometers away from the original cut stylistically, we love the dark horn tones/harmonies over what's essentially a major chorded vocal melody. this remix was one of our fav's of '09. we're straight up 20102ing this shit. lets go! buy myspace rating: 8.4

(Editor's note: today's interview comes to us with permission from Cleveland Bachelor , where the Q&A was originally posted.) Remember how awesome college radio used to be? Maybe it is still that awesome today, I dunno. With the internet, it seems like the information we relied on a few intrepid college DJs to keep track of for us is evermore at our fingertips, so the need just isn't there (though we should still support what remains, naturally). But remember back when we didn't have this fancy series of tubes and whatnots that brought us internet through etherwhatsies [...]

This floated down like a feather from a storm cloud - Thanks to Romy from The XX for this syrup doused cover of my favourite 2008 summer track. The XX are pushing through the album chart - number 36 bang on this second - that's one step ahead of Akon and one step behind Abba. Nuff said. The album is peachy gloomy romance - go buy it and melt yourself stoopid. hand your cash over here & now enjoy this honey toned version of Kyla & Palface's Do You Mind, UK funky reaches UK tropical [...]

[Here we are, Sunset Junction hangover and all, starting another great week of shows:] One of the most memorable sets last April at Coachella was Friendly Fires' early-afternoon assault in 100-degree (give or take) heat in the Gobi Tent. In fact, I'll venture to say it was almost superhuman — both on the part of the British four-piece and on the part of fans so packed in and overheated you were surprised not to walk away wearing part of your friend's tattoo. Their electrifying dance-rock was a hit in L.A. from the first time [...]

Our favourite track of last year was clearly Kyla and Paleface's 'Do you mind', her latest is just as nice, like bossanova and sangria. It's kinda late for a summer anthem but this will definitely see us out until the end of August. Plus it's good to see Crazy Cousinz step it up with some variation, one sample gives us flash backs to Aladdin on the Mega Drive which was a way younger summer obsession. We wouldn't mind spending the whole night. [...]
When measured against the summer festival juggernauts (i.e., Bonnaroo, Lollapolooza, Outside Lands, Austin City Limits), Pickathon may appear unassuming in comparison. But, as William Shakespeare once said: "Though she be but little, she is fierce" (ol' Bill said that, right?). For Pickathon, roots music rules all, and the festival planners have picked some truly excellent acts to represent the time-honored genre. More festival details, lineup, and a whole bunch of MP3s after the jump. The 2009 Pickathon Festival is set to take place July 31st - August 2nd at [...]

Paleface [photo by Cheater Slicks] A songwriting student of Daniel Johnston. A huge early influence on his former roommate's early sound at the start of the 1990's (which may mean more to some after discovering his former roommate goes by the name of Beck). A veteran of countless tours over the past two decades who has shared the stage with the likes of Billy Bragg, The Breeders, The Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and the Avett Brothers. A prolific songwriter who has released fourteen full-length albums (two on major labels but many of them are lo-fi, [...]

Ramseur Records has announced upcoming releases for Samantha Crain and the Midnight Shivers and Paleface, both scheduled for 4/28 release dates. That Samantha Crain has quite a voice. More about Samantha Crain and The Midnight Shivers' album, Songs in the Night : With their debut full-length, Songs in the Night , Samantha Crain & the Midnight Shivers deliver a shudderingly beautiful unique batch of songs in a style that's been described as "meshing freak folk with a deep-seated, dust-bowl soul." The 22-year-old Shawnee, OK native's haunting voice, well-chosen words [...]
