I get sent things all the time, and this one arrived last week. Honestly, I had never heard of the group (I'm way less hip than I like to think of myself I'm afraid), but one can usually expect decent things from Misra Records, so I decided to give it a listen. And while All Things, Forests didn't blow my mind, it did make a favorable impression; a bit of a Rilo Kiley vibe at times, with a handful of decent songs and a couple of stand out tracks. "Our Haunt" was one of them... [...]

So much of life, it seems to me, is determined by pure randomness. - Sidney Poitier Sometimes you just have to throw it all to the wind and let the randomness of life take over. Today's artwork is from http://www.random-art.org/ Today's five songs are randomly chosen from IODA Promonet 's newest releases. 1 : [...]
Another Thursday Graboid once again, but I couldn't help it too much as there were what would seem like an insurmountable amount of albums to go through. I gave fair warning last week, but really no one should be surprised about what has come out this week. When you look at these releases, there's just a little something for everyone's tastes so hopefully you find something you like out of here. I'm also pretty sure I didn't include many of other releases, so if you see one here that didn't make than please feel free to suggest it here. [...]
This is a huge day at the record store. A lot of this stuff is well worth picking up. Top Five New Releases: El-P : I'll Sleep When You're Dead (Definitive Jux) - Adult Swim tie-ins and Trent Reznor guest spots. The underground hip-hop record of the year? It's getting great reviews, but I haven't listened to it all the way through yet. Watch " Flyentology " over at Adult Swim. Appearing at the Troubadour on 3/26 LCD Soundsystem : Sound of Silver (DFA/Capitol) - This is getting record of the year [...]

And that's a wrap. I was actually back at the hotel a good two hours earlier than I'd originally planned, on account of a) being bloody tired and b) being pretty sure there was no way I was getting into any more shows. And that suited me fine. My day - my festival - peaked around 4:00 yesterday afternoon when the audience leapt onstage at Club DeVille with The Rosebuds and danced through the end of their set. Witnessing a moment like that of pure musical joy at a party that I'd helped put [...]

The guy and gals of Palomar. When Brooklyn's Palomar released their very first back in 1999, lots of folks were comparing them to bands like The Fastbacks and yes, Talulah Gosh. Now, eight years and three albums later, they've grown up into a slightly different sound. Their fourth record, and Misra Records debut, All Things, Forests , is a little less Talulah and little more Rilo, but we don't mind, actually. The single, "Our Haunt," has been on repeat the past couple days, and though that's all I've [...]

One of my favorite Baltimore bands is Thrushes . I did a feature on them back in December and it has been nice to see them getting a lot of well deserved love since. On Saturday, they will be having their official Baltimore CD release party at Ottobar with Palomar , Squaaks and AVEC providing support. Sun Come Undone 's official release will follow on March 13. To celebrate, Thrushes are providing us with a contest. To enter, all you have to do is send me an [...]

Interesting promotion for a book - Submit your own mixtape tracklist for a chance to win an iPod , thanks to Rob Sheffield's Love is a Mix Tape . DJ Mojo has a new weekly show on Breakthru Radio called Maximimum Music . If you need to learn what's up in local music, that's that spot (plus some old goodies and treats from out of town, just like the shows he books). Get ready to load 'em up, kids. Not only did [...]
MP3: PALOMAR "Our Haunt" ( Misra ) Brooklyn's Palomar is known for their deep-dimpled harmonies and power-pop hooks, but their straightforward, dispassionate style (perhaps an attempt to not sound too cute) doesn't yield much more than indifference.
Got wind of this contest that some indie musicians and videographers are participating in. The winning filmaker gets 20k, and if you vote you get thrown into a drawing for a scion. The finalists are....
