Mark Nelson continues his embryonic journey into the abyss with a new record under his solo Pan•American moniker. As with past releases, and indeed even with Nelson's former band Labradford, analog tones and minimalist structures are the focus. Nelson mixes this sparse formula with a bit of dub's sense of echo and space, rattling his monolithic tones around your head in reverberating quietude. Vorfreude herrscht. Am 24. Februar erscheint Pan•American 's sechstes Album "White Bird Release". Ein stiller Vorbote wurde schon mal ins Netz entlassen. Mark Nelson gehört seit 1992 zur wegweisenden Ami-Postrock/Ambient-Instituti on Labradford , seit 1998 schafft er, getrieben durch sein Interesse an Dub und Techno, als Pan•American im Zwei-Jahres-Takt superbe Solo-Werke. Dunkle Wolken werden in der Dämmerung durch sanfte Beats am Horizont vorangetrieben, melancholische Blasinstrumente und elektronische Effekte verdichten die Atmosphäre, die von jazzigen Brisen aufgewühlte See lockert die langsam morphende Statik, Gitarrenzupfer bringen vereinzelte Lichtstrahlen in die düstere Dramaturgie, die sich nie in den weiten des geschaffenen Raumes [...]
Male is Ben Mjolsness and Jonathan Krohn (do not confuse them with MEN ). Together, they arranged "a series of recording sessions to document their take on improvisation." The sessions featured contributions from members of Exploding Star Orchestra , Pan American , and Joan of Arc . The resulting album, All Are Welcome is coming out on Other Electricities in Februray and is filled with postrock/experimental/jazzy goodness.
