This weekend is an immense weekend for Irish music in terms of the future. As we all know we can only have good independent music festivals if they have the ability to make money. Here's hoping all four festivals this weekend breaks even and continues into the future! Le Cheile - Oldcastle, Meath July 31st - Aug 2nd. There's a free gig on the Sunday featuring Funeral Suits and Neosupervital amongst many others that I'm looking forward to. I also got tickets to Heritage Centre and Ian Whitty for [...]
There's a full weekend of State / Club AU action coming up at the Purty Loft in August, with another fine selection of Irish talent on offer. On Friday August 14th we have the triple bill of Panama Kings , Audio and Pocket Promise , while on the following night there is that small matter of the mighty Jimmy Cake - returning to the fray with a new, stripped down and dare we say more direct sound. Support on the 15th comes from Jogging plus a special guest to be [...]

I stumbled across Northern Irish trio Two Door Cinema Club as the opening track on the latest Kitsune Maison 7 compilation with their latest single Something Good Can Work . The song is up-beat and catchy - perfect indie-pop. As I would later find out, the rest of their limited catalogue is just as good and should make for a worthwhile debut album in the not too distant future. mp3: Two Door Cinema Club - Something Good Can Work mp3: Two Door Cinema Club - Undercover Martyn [...]
There's an Arctic Monkeys-style buzz around this new band from Belfast. When it comes to pigeonholing them, you'd have to say they sound like a marriage between ¡Forward Russia! and Does it Offend You, Yeah?, with a honeymoon in Manhattan staying with The Strokes. This particular track can be downloaded free of charge from The Panama Kings website (you have to subscribe to the mailing list) but if you like what you hear then check out their new single 'Golden Recruit'. With my liver well and truly reversed over, having now stomped off to a health farm for the weekend in a terrible mood and my mind feeling like it's been electrified by a thousand eels, we bid farewell to the whirlwind that was Brighton's Great Escape Festival . We promise to stop talking about it soon. Except perhaps to, ahem, immediately break that promise as we located a trio of bands that we felt deserved their own Recommender posting, so promises aside, here you are... [...]

Panama Kings is a band from Belfast, Ireland who basically deliver wonderful indie rock-dance/electronically-driv en guitar pop in the most fun, bob-your-head-like-crazy while attempting a lame dance move. With their heart-thumping esque drumming and the synth basslines, you can't help but love their tracks. And the single The Golden Recruit is one such example; it's edgy, and actually kinda sing-a-long in an anthemic manner especially the last minute or so. Toe the Party Lin e is another track from Panama Kings and I absolutely adore this track. Love [...]

Panama Kings are releasing a new single on May 11th called "Golden Recruit." After checking out the myspace of these guys, I decided that I would probably be alright to sway back and forth and bob my head in rhythmic fashion while their music is playing. That being said, it is awfully convenient that they have a new track out for download. Now I have something to dance to for a few minutes. Check it out! One of Belfast's finest exports, Panama Kings are set to release their new single, 'Golden Recruit' on May 11th 2009, through UK label Broken Sound Music and available as Digital Download and on 10" inch limited edition vinyl. Formed in 2007, Panama Kings were crowned JD Unsigned band 2008 and not being a band to rest on their laurels or accept that prizes might automatically mean progress, they immediately set about consolidating their reputation, releasing their debut EP 'Young Bood' in the summer of 2008 and the single 'Children' in December, winning new [...]

Si les Phoenix étaient anglais, ils s'appelleraient sûrement Two Door Cinema Club . [...]
Having kicked off in fine style with two nights in Dublin, the 2009 IMRO showcase heads north tonight for an incredible eight band bill at The Limelight & Katy Daly's in Belfast. As with all the remaining dates on the tour, State is on hand to provide you with a handy guide to the acts taking part and a taster of what they have to offer: Sparks Fly 2008 was a successful year for indie quintet Sparks Fly. They were one of the few Northern Ireland acts to be chosen [...]
While we were producing issue 10 of State, we asked the bands featured to give us an MP3 to us so we could put our money where our mouths are. So here for your enjoyment is a 13 track compilation from some of the best new Irish bands and artists (as single listening or in a ZIP) which we expect to be making a good noise in 2009. The issue is embedded below (click to enlarge) so you can read and listen at the same time. Hah - the magic of multimedia! [...]

Highlighting bands and artists from Ireland, the Hard Working Class Festival aims to bring these groups to the attention of media from around the globe. With our boys Angel Pier on the list, we thought we might give them a boost while sending some love out to the other 100 bands that are showcased. Best of all, free MP3s for every one of the artists. We took this list based on the current top-20 and we added the MP3s. Click on a group's song if you would like to support them or their name to [...]
