Random Access Memories , Daft Punks first non-soundtrack album in eight years, might be the biggest release of 2013 (not counting what Kanye might have in store). Its also a humongous album, clocking in at over an hour and with several tracks breaching six minutes in length. This is a production that sounds like it broke the bank, but it a sincere enough musical send up to feel intimate and crafted. Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter have, needless to say, predominated over the music news for the duration of this past month or so, even making deathly black headlines in the wake of the untimely demise of sporadic collaborator Anthony Moore, aka Romanthony. Its ambitious in the way few dance records dare to contemplate, and in exactly the way youd expect from a pair that have twice changed the face of EDM. I was extremely hesitant about listening to any remixes of new Daft Punk tracks this early in the game. But alas, The Golden Pony is a name we've come to trust and when they sent over their mix of the Panda Bear -assisted "Doin' It Right", I had to peak. The Daft Punk album leaked the other day, and as Arjun said, the camp "opted to begin relief efforts with a full album stream on iTunes a few days before the albums release." Good move on their part, I'd say. Anyway, I've been listening to the album and was a bit taken aback by what I heard versus what I expected, but there were several songs that blew me away.
