Pangea is a garage rock band that is based in Los Angeles. The released their debut LP Living Dummy last year via Burger Records. Catch Pangea playing a new tune that has that decidedly Violent Femmes-y spunk to it below. There's a pretty grand little freak out at the end thatcrystallizesthe pretty simple, but well written words. Though Pangea does have some hardcore bedfellows, their energy is far more vulnerable and intimate. Thus the songs play less asparty rock and more as bothered garage pop. My eyes were open for a full five minutes before I closed them again, and suddenly 10:30 a.m. became 2 p.m. Goddam it. In what seemed like the literal blink of an eye, a dozen wonderful Friday performances became impossible to get to, everything from Shannon and the Clams at Barbarella, to Useless Eaters/Surgeons/Shark Toys/Peach Kelli Pop/Guantanamo Baywatch at the Cherrywood, to fucking Billy Bragg at Waterloo Records! With strong acts like Tijuana Panthers and Beach Party kicking things off, it was an easy decision for many to arrive early for Night One at The Observatory.
