Yes, it's Panther , not Panthers ... We'll be honest, until Panther mastermind Charlie Salas-Humara blurted an obscenity (pretty much the most obscene one, if you're curious, so don't play this video at work if that is the sort of thing that will ruffle feathers) at 1:29 into this video, we weren't sure it was for us. But as soon as the dirty word is uttered the manic vocal and the killer minimalist electro groove (think James Brown-grade funk in the year 2419A.D., Buck Rogers-stizz) suddenly come into focus. After feeling that, we watched "You Don't [...]

Here's the first extrawack! Baker's Dozen Downloads of the new year...as usual, these are thirteen tracks we think you need to have on the personal listening device of your choice, and to maybe even hold up said device with the backlight on so that the people around you on the train or in the pizza joint can see how au courant you really are. This rock block is all about chi. I tell you what, those Asian dudes, sure got it right when they talk about keeping balance in your life. Earlier this week, I dropped a Not Rock Block, and ever since that day I've been plagued by headaches. Coincidence, you say? No way. It's bad chi. Let's take care of that chi, and that pain in my head, with some good old-fashioned rock and roll music. I can't think of a better way to kick of a rock block then with the newest single [...]
Here are some friday favorites to keep you going through the weekend, - enjoy! Read Yellow - Pia Zadora - from labelsite Los Campesinos! - you me dancing - from myspace (fantastic band, love them!) Obvious Justin Timberlake comparisons aside, we suspected that Panther would sound better in the studio than on stage. Not that we don't admire the thing he does live , but... he actually sounds impressive on his new album, Secret Lawns . Of course, Panther still rides dangerously close to being a joke, but if his act ends up falling that way, at least there is some meat to it all. Panther - "How Well Can You Swim" (mp3) Secret Lawns [...]

The little I know about Panther comes from the praise my wife and my boy Royce heaped upon him after seeing him open for Ratatat in September. (Ratatat ... not so great .) Unfortunately, I arrived late, so I missed his set.In fact, I know so little about Panther (aka Charlie Salas-Humara) that I'd rather just let the music speak for itself instead of trying to feign knowledge or cut-paste PR material. I will say that Panther is the type of artist I seem to be drawn to more and more of late: solo, creative, unorthodox (much [...]

Panthers will be following up 2004's Things Are Strange with their new album The Trick , due out April 10th on Vice Records. Featuring three out of the four original members of seminal '90s screamo band Orchrid , the band is an eclectic mix of progressive, drone-ish rock 'n' roll that has tinges of MC5, King Crimson, and who the hell knows what else. Look forward to the new album and until then, grab one of their songs from the last album below as well as a MSTRKRFT remix. [...]
I woke up late, and I'm still slugging thru my coffee. We went down to Fontana's last night (pondering the whole way why we ever wanted to live in the strangely over-priced, yet still totes nasty LES) to the We Are Your Friends party to see TRGAW pal James Minor (of our fave gothers Blacklist ) bring the coldwave in his dj set. There was something vaguely satisfying about being our usual snarky, standoffish selves (oh, I'm just kidding!) in the basement of Fontana's -- as a matter of fact, it reminded us of old North Loop Sound [...]

(Most of the LINKS from this post are NSFW, so skip it till you get home) So I have had the pleasure of seeing Eon McKai 's new feature " Girls Lie " featuring Ms. Dana Dearmond and Charlotte Stokely and Riley Mason, not only is one of the best X rated movies I have seen, the soundtrack totally kicks ass. It features the Panthers, Matmos, XBXRX and Wolves in the Throne Room. Design by [...]

::: Spank Rock - Put That Pussy On Me (Diplo Tonite Remix) ::: Matt & Kim - Yea Yeah ::: Clipse/MIA - Definition of a Roller ::: Brazilian Girls - Jique (MSTRKRFT Remix) ::: CSS - Let's Make Love And Listen To Death From Above ::: MSTRKRFT - Thank Me With Your Hands (Panthers Remix) OK, so I'm totally into these remixes of late. I'll listen to anything by Diplo or MSTRKRFT. I especially like the remixes of [...]

Who else cannot believe that it is freaking October already? While it may suck that we will be freezing our asses off in a few weeks, not all of the news is bad. The Baltimore region's fall concert influx is in full swing and continues this week. The Hold Steady The week begins with a solid Monday. Elf Power and Water School bring the indie rock to The Talking Head . The Hold Steady and [...]

::: Wolfmother - Woman (MSTRKRFT Remix) ::: Death From Above 1979 - Romantic Rights (Phone Lovers Remix) ::: Professor Murder - Free Stress Test ::: Pharrell - I M A G (Freestyle) ::: Clipse - Queen Bitch (Diplo Remix) ::: Panther - You Don't Want Yr Nails Done [I have no idea where that Pharrell track came from, but I think it's fantastic. The MSTRKRFT [...]

So I raced over to the Rhythm Room after work Monday night to catch about 40 minutes' worth of Ratatat's set, which was enough time to form an opinion and settle a debate I've had with myself about one of life's most puzzling questions: Do I like Ratatat ? The answer: not so much. Classics , the group's latest release on XL, was doing just enough to keep me interested. Truth is, I'm a hard sell when it comes to all-instrumental albums (unless we're talking [...]
So I was singing the praises of Panther a couple of posts back and then I saw that he's got a video out for his song titled "You Don't Want Yr Nails Done". Totally awesome. Tags: panther , youtube , video , nails done , electronica , rock , awesome , macktronic , cannonball!
Got a chance to catch an excellent show at the Great American Music Hall here in San Francisco last night. The crowd was certainly into Ratatat and were more than open to the opening acts, Panther and Envelopes. I was totally impressed with Panther (myspace). So impressed that I picked up one of his special edition tour cd's, which are all self-recorded. There's a proper release coming
The following mp3's are all from the Artrocker site and they're all alright songs, some of them are a bit old/you might already have them, but it's for the punters. The one's I've picked are the best ones... Download - 'Chargr' by Bearsuit Download - 'I Knew' by Comanechi Download - 'We Start The Fires' by Tiger Force Download - 'Do I Have Your Attention?' by The Blood Arm Download - 'Sinking Hearts' [...]

so i was out-voted on watching "Coffee And Cigarettes" last night and ended up with "Soul Plane" instead. I'm still not sure if i was entertained or wasted 2 hours of my life. Snoop Dogg ends up dead. there i ruined it for you, now you won't have to risk the same dilemna. and this qualifies as some crazy shit. $13,000.00 for a T-SHIRT. yeah, that's right. ------------------------------ ------------------------------ ---------------------- MP3: this is a track from the new album by Panthers . i mentioned them [...]
