Video: Vimeo - YouTube Photos: Flickr Audio: zip download: right-click, save as This session was recorded in Glasgow before Josh's performance at Oran Mor on 22nd November last year. The first attempt to record a session with him was at Stereo, but recording in a venue really didn't work out, so this time we decided to take up the kind offer of Phil from PAWS to record it in his bedroom instead. Again [...]
Watch Wu Lyf cover Papa M's 'Krusty' at the KEXP studios.

Wu Lyf at Music Hall of Williamsburg ( more by Toby Tenenbaum ) Wu Lyf 's new LP is making some year-end lists and if you haven't already, you can catch the World Unite Lucifer Youth Foundation on the road in the new year. The "satanist" band will head down-under for a set of dates in late January/early February, but will return for a stint in the US in April including a pair of NYC shows: Music Hall of Williamsburg on 4/26 [...]
The former Slint guitar wizard Dave Pajo has spent so much time as an indie rock hired axe that his Papa M solo project has gone weirdly underrated. But British guitar-anthem mob WU LYF apparently know their history; they recently recorded a live-in-studio cover of Pajo's instrumental " Krusty " for the Seattle radio station KEXP. Watch them doing their version below. Read More...
Beyond the Daniel Beard Bridge, Cincinnati disappears. Skyscrapers stretch high in the rearview mirror, and Kentucky's electric green expanse begins to encroach on the car. It's a humid day in early July—the twelfth of the month—and the Midwest is mired in gray skies that appear ready to fill the currently depleted sliver of the Ohio [...]
Good weekend, everyone? The rapture didn't occur. Or did it. Maybe for us hell is just more of the same, you know? Although if this is hell I have to admit I love it. Friday night my friends and I hit up some area bars and got joyously intoxicated like a beautiful perfect little family [...]
Uno era The Person and the Skeleton , l'altro è questa è So Warped .

After the last few days of shoehorning Christmas into songs that really don't care, here's one that seems to fit naturally. Silent night style, you know? All the late-'90s post-rockers gathered in the snowy night, ruddy-faced with their tongues out to collect the falling flakes. Pretty pretty. And it's aged well too. Last year's thoughts about Christmas sort of apply now as well, so I'll just direct you there if you're looking for some reflections, though this time it looks like the day will be filled more with busyness with quiet drift. Meanwhile, [...]
[A song by Cat Stevens, as interpreted by Papa M. Originally recorded in 2001 as a wedding gift for Stuart Braithewaite from Mogwai. Will Oldham (Bonny 'Prince' Billy) sings backing vocals. Produced by Continental OP]
Since Valentine's Day and #VDay are still trending on Twitter – at least, in New York City, where i've set my trending topics – and since walking around Sainsbury's the other day yielded no overheard conversations but those of gigglers chatting about what various friends' lovers did or didn't buy as Valentine's presents, and since compiling it was vaguely emotionally draining and since i haven't posted it yet, i present the LJB extra-curricular Valentine's Day mix. Willed into existence by Twitter (2 votes 'yes' to 1 vote 'only-if-you-include-samples-o f-Hugh-Grant': sorry Katy, this way i still have a [...]
This year, ATP celebrate its 10 year birthday with one hell of a birthday party - the 2010 edition of ATP New York . And as finally announced today, the lineup for the Labor Day Weekend bash is as stellar and ecelectic as ever. For one, ATP New York has handed over the reigns to Jim Jarmusch, the legendary indie filmmaker whose resume results in a rather lengthy Wikipedia entry . The 57-year-old Akron, OH native, who has the task of following up 2009 curators, The Flaming Lips, will hand pick the Sunday portion of ATP. [...]

A friend of mine has been having a hard time lately getting to sleep. I first offered to help her by calling every night before bedtime and talking to her for awhile, as my affection-less monotone can put anyone to sleep within a couple minutes. After mutually deeming that to be a stupid idea, I went with my second option: a mix CD of quiet (but not boring) songs from my favorite bands. Here's what I came up with: 1) Micah P. Hinson - Seems Almost Impossible 2) Tindersticks - Until The [...]
As I mentioned yesterday, my attention this year, as far as music goes, has been diverted in a variety of ways. Doing a 2009 playlist seemed to miss the thrust of what my year was all about (and probably redundant with every other blog out there); doing a collection of old yet new-to-me stuff would have missed all the music that wasn't new to me that I spent so much time with. So instead I offer this: a 75-track playlist that comes as close as I can to giving some impression of what my listening year has really [...]

Ten years? Has it really been ten years since the first ATP festival? I hate to think how many pints of brand-bland cider have been consumed in that time. How many tonnes of tangled metal-kid hair have clogged the filters of the swimming pools of Pontins and Butlins. How many members of holiday camp staff [...]
Saturday night's lineup at Buster's had things flipped around a little bit, in my humble opinion. The highlight of my night was the first act which was Louisville's (formerly) very own Papa M . For those not aware of the significance or depth of Papa M's career, then allow me to lay it out real quick. Throughout the late 80s and early 90s the music scene in Louisville was one of the most progressive, important, and underrated scenes in recent music history. You might not be aware of how much of the music [...]

I have a confession to make. For years I would loudly proclaim my opinion that Lexington was vastly inferior to Louisville and that nobody in their right mind would ever want to live there. Now, my love for Louisville hasn't waned a bit (I still think it's the greatest town in America), but Lexington is quickly making a case for being one of the most exciting towns in the Midwest. With this year's Boomslang Fest courtesy of WRFL , they are [...]
