Carrying and axe, giving that "come hither" look to the girl in the front row, and wearing leather pants got you far in the 80s; yet, your buddy who can noodle out a Bon Jovi or Poison solo is still living in his parents' basement. Why? It ain't the '80s anymore. And tell your friend to stop wearing leather pants; he'd last about five minutes at a biker bar. Paper Brain suffers from the same problem albeit a different era. They made a '60s and '70s influenced '90s indie pop record in the 21 st [...]

Lots of new releases this week, but none that I'm particularly excited about. Though, I am a little intrigued with A Camp , a collaboration between Nina Persson of The Cardigans , and Niclas Frisk. At this point, I will pretty much listen to anything Persson is involved with. Some other notable releases include Bob Dylan's Together Through Life (his 46th album!), Thee Oh Sees' Help , Immaculate Machine's High , Still Flyin's Never Gonna Touch The Ground , and Japandroids' [...]

On Ain't Nobody Cares , Portland's Paper Brain draws musical influence from the 60s and 70s and lyrical influence from literature. Most notably, "Robin Hood" (easily one of the best songs on the album) is a homage to Edgar Allan Poe's Eulalie - A Song . It's a unique take on literature, the putting story to song ; one that others have likely emulated. Ain't Nobody Cares splits between male and female fronted vocals. Each song is clean and honest, and [...]

The second track off Paper Brain's second album, Ain't Nobody Cares , takes no time to start up. Mike Wroblewski's slightly off-key (in a good way) voice lead the song from the very beginning, as he sings, "It's a dead, dead, dying town/ Ain't nobody's gonna be around/ I know, it's all because we were young," with soft drums, tambourine, bass and keys daintily following behind. After this short intro, Paper Brain keys in the guitar and cranks up the levels on the instrumentation, placing them on a level playing field with Wroblewski's folky vocals. About [...]

Paper Brain From: Portland, Oregon, United States A vintage echo in the Pacific Northwest air, Paper Brain's dreamy soundscape, sunny boy-girl swapped melodies and harmonic interludes play to the present while hinting at the past. "I've always loved the sound and tone of the 60's and, consequently, have always cherished the instruments from that era," says Mike Wroblewski (guitars/vocals/bass). "If it were up to me, we'd be playing with all vintage equipment; Moog synths, Wurlitzer electric pianos, any guitars or [...]
