Contributed by Jon Herriot Canadian indie pop/rockers Paper Lions have released "San Simeon" as a preview of their new full length that they just finished recording. I'm a huge fan of these guys, they always have catchy tunes with fun, peppy vocals. Nobody talks about them enough though, there wasn't a song on their EP Trophies that I didn't like, which is pretty rare. Paper Lions [...]

Seriously Fuck Record Labels. There's absolutely no need for them anymore. If you're in a band, or make music, stop worrying or even thinking about a record deal. The only reason record deals exist is to pay you LESS than they can MAKE off YOUR music... Went to a fun rocking show at the Raw Sugar Cafe on December 8, 2011. Playing at the show was PEI's Paper Lions and Ottawa's The Donna Litas . The show turned out to be a success. The place was packed with people. The show started off with the Donna Litas from Ottawa. I think this was the first time seeing them live. The band used to be The Sunjet Records Band. They were [...]

by teepoo Paper Lions hasn't really released anything new in a while but they're busy playing around and will be in Toronto for a Christmas show in December 10th at the El Mocambo. More details here . Usually I think songs that rhyme are pretty lame but this is damn catchy. If you're a Tokyo Police Club, you will probably dig Paper Lions too. One of my favourite bands from this past year is the foursome hailing from Charlottetown, PEI, known as Paper Lions. The band's Trophies EP was released Fall 2010. Paper Lions will be performing a series of holiday shows in Ottawa, London, Toronto and their hometown of Charlottetown, PEI. The band will be celebrating the holidays as well as debuting some new material. I had the chance to catch the band in action when they opened for Memphis at Lee's Palace this past August. The band had amazing energy and got the crowd hyped. I [...]

This fall the band brought their energetic stage show [...]

Candian? Check! Compared to The Shins? Check! Sunny Autumn day? Check! With the above credentials suitably in place Paper Lions were never going to sound anything less than utterly glorious. Formed way back in 2003, the four-piece played as the Chuck Danger Band up until 2007 when a tweak of their sound led to them changing their moniker. Since then then band have played thousands of shows across Canada, winning multiple national awards along the way. The bands sunny, energetic indie-rock does indeed draw fair comparisons with James Mercers crew. [...]

Tweet It's late on Friday night and I'm sheltering at home in a temporary anti-satellite bunker I've hastily constructed. I'm told that at any moment a redundant satellite will come smashing through earth's atmosphere and at around 200mph crash into planet earth. Yet no one knows where. Therefore I'm wearing my kids Fireman Sam helmet, drinking Whisky and music blogging. Maybe Paper Lions will be the last band I ever hear, the last notes, the last tune in my head before; kablooie, [...]

Toronto - It is now Friday, and NXNE is in full bloom. Are you exhausted yet? Well if you aren't, not sure if you are doing this festival correctly. Tonight's best bet for a one stop shop is the Toronto landmark Sneaky Dee 's. What can you say about Sneaky Dee's? It's an establishment. Every Toronto band has played there, and most of them have ate there, most likely drunk. Their Tuesday half price fajita menu is made of legends. Who hasn't gone there for greasy Mexican breakfast, or their massive nacho plates, some of [...]

I've had so much fun compiling list this week that I decided to do it again except with Christmas/Holiday songs. I could go out and find my favorites and then share them individually, but this way all the songs and playlist are in one little post, like a wrapped up package for you. Like I've said before, I hate the incessant playing of christmas carols for a month straight on the radio, or walking down the street, or when waiting in line for a coffee, it drives me crazy. The 98% of the songs are auto tuned crap that make [...]
