"You get what you put in." Papermoons sound exactly how a couple of boys from Texas should sound, in my opinion. My points of reference are often anything but ordinary, though - so maybe it's a bit less obvious than I'm making it out to be. RIYL: anything that Ben Gibbard has ever touched. I've spent the last month of my life either with my nose in the books or writing pages upon pages of [...]

There's something disarmingly beautiful about this album. Not just the beauty contained in the songs, but also in the casual, almost nonchalant way this Texas twosome craft and perform them. Papermoons first came to my attention last summer when I ordered their inaugural 73 single from Vinyl Collective . In addition to being a ridiculously good-looking package/record , the hybrid of folk and indie rock music and the band's single-minded pursuit of the quietest and most beautiful sounds possible was striking. The signifiers most often used to describe the band [...]

Went to see Penelope yesterday with a girlfriend, and of course the theatre was packed with women. Yes, we do love our chick-flick bonding time. Billed as a modern day fairy-tale, the film is about a wealthy girl named Penelope Wilhern who is cursed with porcine features-- pig snout and floppy ears. Needless to say, this does not bode well for little Penelope who grows up with no playmates and an overprotective mother who wants to hide her from a world obsessed with appearances. The only way to break the curse is if "one of her own" (a blueblood) can [...]

I am not sure if I am kranky and not having any imagination picking up songs but a)I had a bad weekend and b) I just finished downloading the entire pop sxsw sampler. Then I tried to build relaxing list. This is what I find. It's Lionel Richie , Debbie gibson , The Beach Boys , The Eagles (ahhhh..).It's the return of 80's... Think New Order and big soulder pad. onoo ... This can't be happening. But don't get discourage. I am only 1/3 through the pop [...]

One of the first bands I discovered through blogs was Paper Moon, from Winnipeg, Canada. I have probably put their song. "String of Blinking Lights," on more mix cd's than any other in the last nine months. And their album, Broken Hearts Break Faster Every Day , is entertaining, jingle jangle pop of the highest order. Besides making great music, the members of Paper Moon are very charming, at least as far as I can tell from reading their periodic blog postings on MySpace. Here is the latest example: [...]

This week's Contrast Podcast theme has to do with planets and other celesital bodies. The contributors scoured the vastness of space to bring you excellent planetary tracks. Even ex-planet Pluto was included in the bunch. I must say this week's podcast is by far my favorite one so far. Not only for the tracks from the other contributors (I especially like the Moonbabies' "Stars of Warburton" and Ash's "Girl from Mars"), but also beacuse I had way too much fun going through tracks to decide what to submit. I seriously had no shortage of [...]
In my search for the true Canadian indie experience whilst working in Toronto I stumbled upon a record label which has an eclectic roster which verges from the sublime to the, well, the even more sublime. Paper Moon Genre: Pop/Indie/Rock From: Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada If there is [...]

A Plague Of Angels has once again come up with a great band. Johan are from the Netherlands and offer veeeery catchy pop-tunes. The four songs that molotov offers on his blog did enough for me to order an album. I highly recommend you go over there and get them as long as they're there! And now someone get Walking Away out of my head again, please!!! Morten [...]
