by teepoo Pas Chic Chic is quite the strange name for a band, but their material seems quite fitting for the music blogosphere. If 8 minutes of experimentation does not some how live up to the song name and "influence" or move you in some way, then I don't know what planet you are from. The track comes off a limited edition vinyl released on Semprini Records . Pas Chic Chic- Allez Vous Faire Influencer OFFICIAL WEBSITE | MYSPACE

Shane's been doing an admirable job of tying up the loose ends for 2010, trying to revisit the records we missed or seemingly forgot to write about (no, we didn't forget about Arcade Fire, but appreciate you asking). One that slipped through the cracks for me was the dy-no-mite 123 from Pas Chic Chic . Last time out, Pas Chic Chic blew me away . I know that's not surprising considering the pedigree of the band, but bridging the francophone divide that up until recently was damn near impossible, and they [...]

From everything I can tell, " Allez Vous Faire Influencer " is an enormous change for Pas Chic Chic, a French outfit updating the confines of Francophone pop. Here, thankfully, bouyant yé-yé is replaced with a heart-racing motorik beat that hosts a variety of organs and synthesizers and laser-like affects. This is more Neu! than Francoise Hardy, more Kraftwerk than France Gall. And even though the band contains members of Godspeed You! Black Emperor, there isn't even a hint of mournfully self-serious musical narcotics. No, this thing is nearly 9 minutes of acceleration. As the song speeds along, you expect [...]

Pas Chic Chic is one of those bands PR folks shouldn't have any problem promoting. The band's various members have also spent time in groups such as Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Set Fire To Flames, and Fly Pan Am. All that stuff is well, nice, good, great, awesome, great, well, nice, and good; however, it's the extremely kraut rock-esque drums and synths on "Allez Vous Faire Influencer" that are really pulling me in. I've talked up bands such as Neu!, Tangerine Dream, and Kraftwerk in my videos [...]

"I just re-potted a plant yesterday," the We Are Wolves keyboardist tells Spinner from his Montreal apartment. Whether a permanent state of affairs or just a passing fancy, his horticultural fixation is shared by We Are Wolves frontman Alex Ortiz. In fact, the cover art for their new album on Dare to Care Records, 'Invisible Violence' (just released in the [...]

The M for Montreal festival feauted a handful of bands who sang in French, but none oozed more Franco cool than Pas Chic Chic , the new-ish group from former Godspeed You! Black Emperor's Gerard Tellier-Craig and, despite some sound problems early on in thier set, PCC ended up being one of my favorite sets of the fest. Awash in vintage keyboards (most prominently a Ace Tone combo organ) it was like a classic chanson singer fronting Broadcast. The band were dripping with style and while they were bathed in crimson light the entire time, their sound [...]

Listen away. It's not knew - I've had this song for 8-9 months now, but give it a listen. I've been noticing that Pas Chic Chic has suddenly been getting more press in the blogosphere. I'm an admitted Francophile err not sure what the word is for Montreal (but I dig music from France as well).

Canada's official second language is French, but for some reason there aren't many people who actually listen to any French speaking bands. In all honesty, if you ask 90% of Canada about French music, they will make a Mitsou or Roch Voisine joke and move on. But there are an ever growing number of talented indie bands that more than deserve a listen, but for some reason their sounds seem to be getting lost in the translation. Over the last couple of years people have warmed to acts like Les Breastfeeders and [...]

" The band's exciting, experimental synth-pop borrows liberally from French chanson, turbo-charging it with lush psychedelia, soul, swooning ambience and noise ."-- The National Post on Pas Chic Chic's Au Contraire au contraire I've spoken favorably of Montreal 's Pas Chic Chic in the past, and lately I've been enamored with their debut LP, Au Contraire , a swirling, experimental take on [...]

There's not been much time for blogging recently with my returning from vacation this week and Leah leaving for one. But I brought you souvenirs from Montreal and L.A. and Brooklyn (and Jersey, whoo! how exotic) to show you how much I missed you! Pas Chic Chic - Sur les Écrans Statiques Soft - Dumb Blood Young Galaxy - Come and See Saturday Looks Good to Me - Make a Plan West Indian Girl - To Die in LA [...]

This post is about two bands from Montreal that don't particularly sound like the Arcade Fire or Wolf Parade , and apparently sing exclusively in French. Still, both are extremely promising, and worth looking into. ****************************** *********** I'd never heard of Montreal 's Feu Therese before this week, and to be honest, I only checked out their new LP, Ca Va Cogner ("It's Gonna Hit"), because of that cover art. It's [...]

Pas chic chic : First demo Wow ! Can't believe what I'm hearing and can't believe it's in French ! Pas chic chic is a new band from Montreal having a similar kind of guitar-bass-korg 60's sound I locked on to with Birdie or Call and Response for example. Very astounding when you're told some of band members (Eric Gingras and Roger Tellier-Craig) are notably from well-known post-rock outfits Godspeed You ! Black Emperor and Fly Pan Am !! Could we call this "Post-pop" ? "Pas [...]
