My musical climate the past few weeks has been influenced mostly by the fact that my current living arrangement has me sitting/lounging on an apartment floor a lot of times. And I'm around trees and coffee and nice cloudy weather a lot more. But a lot of these times are about lounging, with overcast weather as a nice mental backdrop. Or lounging on the grass while looking right at the clouds.

Pascal Comelade : September Song (with Robert Wyatt) [ purchase ] Pascal Comelade is a French (or,I'd better say, Catalan) musician with a passion for instrumentals (he doesn't sing)and unconventional arrangements. In this 2000 EP, dedicated to covers of pop standards played with toy instruments (along with "Knockin' On Heaven's Door", "The Sheik of Araby" and others) the only vocal track was by Robert Wyatt, legendary musician and genius, I mean the one who made my all-time favorite album ( Rock Bottom ), and another specialist for quirky [...]

Pascal Comelade, unul dintre precursorii Arcade Fire, Sigur Ros sau Beirut... Asta dupa ce am citit articolul lui Stere0 despre Sigur Ros, care mi-a placut mult.

English Version: I won't lie. I consider myself a Pascal Comelade's "fan", but I only listened 3 of his albums and a bunch of song but I'm convinced that he's an exceptional and unbeatable musician. Difficult to find Comelade's music?... hell yes!!! In fact I didn't know about his new album, but thanks to a friend a could listen to it: Mètode de Rocanrol. With that in mind I consider that I must listen more from him in order to do an official review. For that reason I'm [...]

English Version: For me it's very hard to find a Pascal Comelade album, I always get singles or collaborations with PJ Harvey, so, last week I got his "Detail Monochrome" and "L'argot Du Bruit" . When I was importing the first one to iTunes, the song that played was "Chanson" …. I don't know what happened, maybe the biological clock is telling me something or perhaps some memories from my childhood came out… whatever. The fact is that this was a special song; it begins with a "let-the-baby-sing" experiment [...]
English Version: Long time ago I googled artists like Yann Tiersen and I found this man: Pascal Comelade , French Catalan multi instrumentalist, usually he uses toy instruments, his music is instrumental, minimalist, but at the end he's a musician hard to define. La Blogotheque continues its great series "Les Concerts a Emporter", current episode with Pascal Comelade… wow he's a virtuoso. At the end of the post you can watch one of his videos. You can check more at La Blogotheque's site right here [...]

parc de la villette Villette Sonique festival in Paris this year will be eccentric, noisy, unhinged but also melodious, charming, classy and of course, sonic. The festival takes its name from Parc de la Villette the iconoclastic park project done by master architect Bernard Tschumi with theoretical supplement by Jacques Derrida and it will take place next weekend. This year there are 2 open air events in the Villette Park and special events around Paris venues. A good selection of artists featuring [...]
I'm suddenly strangely addicted to the avant-garde reworkings of French Catalan composer Pascal Catalan, as well as his original work. I'm kind of a sucker for toy instruments and carnivalesque arrangements, and in this rare case, I enjoy when a cover sounds familiar but you can't readily place it. If you're looking for note-for-note covers, don't download these. If you, like me, have fantasies about opening a coffee shop just so you can play unique rock-inspired jazz in the background, go for it. Update: If the tracks aren't downloading, refresh and try [...]
