When you revisit the skittish pop and sensuality of Pat Jordache and his last release, fluid and loose aren't words that often come to mind. Despite the endless number of layers, the clusterfuck of lost files and the painstaking restoration process of getting Future Songs to it's final state, the vision always seemed laser focused. If Future Songs was laser focused, "Hunger", the new song from Jordache, is more laser lighted. A planetarium worthy effort, the fat, warbled bass balloons into any available space left from the trailers that exploded across the fractured [...]

Image from the Constellation site Haven't heard from the Montreal band Pat Jordache in quite some time. Hopefully they will drop a new album in 2013. For now they have a music video for STEPS (damaged goods). The song has that 1980s New Wave lo-fi synth-rock sound to it. The video was filmed at the Silver Door in Montreal. Have a look at the video.

by Bill Pearis PyPy at Club Lambi, 11/16/2012 Freedom...horrible freedom! One thing M for Montreal , part festival part industry conference, was previously known for was its tightly-controlled schedule. There was one show a night with two stages and attendees saw all the bands, no overlap. And while this was still the case for the first two nights of the 2012 edition, Friday and Saturday saw the launch of the M Fest which had shows at about ten [...]

New wave solo act Pat Jordache released this oddball and curiously infectious single 'steps (DAMAGED GOODS)' from his upcoming LP2 . The Montreal-based artist, who formerly worked with tUnE-yArDs front woman Merril Garbus in their short-lived trio Sister Suvi , will be following up last year's Future Songs with LP2 in the near future. Until then, check out 'steps (DAMAGED GOODS)' below.

Karneef - Swimming ( Touchy Mob remix) I’ve been chatting recently with Karn of the Canadian pop funk-fusion project Karneef. His album, In Error , was just released last month after touring with one of my heroes, Sean Nicholas Savage . Before this solo work, Karn played with Pat Jordache , and Cadence Weapon , and seems to have a pretty big foot in the [...]

The Biscuits and Gravy mixes are the results of "leftover" promotional mp3s from past mixes. For one reason or another, these mp3s didn't fit onto a mix at the time of release. The mp3s sit on a hard drive, all alone until they are united with mp3s who have suffered a similar fate. These tracks are ready to make you sing out loud, dance, ponder your existence, and prevent you from smashing in your dashboard on that long commute to work. Download it, burn to CD, load it on your audio device, do what you want, but most of all [...]

I know, I know. Lists are annoying and trying to assign rankings and value to art is subjective at best. That's why these records - 25 from releases that really made an impact on me in '11 - aren't branded with any type of distinction other than "favorite." These are records, not songs, that warmed my heart, eased my pain, inspired my creativity or simply helped tap my toe or nod my head. They never asked for anything more than a listen, and I was more than happy to oblige. That being said, there [...]

Welcome to FWBA's best-of 2011. This has been such a meaningful year in music to me that it's tough to represent in one post. I'm going to be honest, this took me quite a long time. I wanted to do this year justice because personally, it was a total dream: living in San Diego working with some of my favorite artists, going to SXSW and Lollapalooza, seeing Dave Bazan in stranger's living rooms, Feist play a hometown show, saw tune-yards electrified show at Soda Bar clocking in as one of my favorite performances, watching Zach Rogue and my boyfriend playing [...]

So...I suppose I'm a tad bit late to the year-end-best-of-lists party but oh well. Josh already offered up his favorite tracks in the year-end best-of playlist and, while our lists have a lot of crossover, I thought I'd offer up my favorite 50 tracks from the past year. I've struggled with the idea of trying to put a 'best-of' stamp on anything I listen to based solely on the fact that I'm not all that comfortable with the idea of ranking all the tracks I love. This is more a representation of all my favorite tracks from [...]
Drum loops and vocals that make you want to groove.

Pat Jordache - Future Songs Pat Jordache , the Canadian musician and tUnE-yArDs collaborator behind May 2011’s “Phantom Limb” and full-length LP ‘Future Songs’ (via Constellation ), brings his scruffy and shambolic percussive pop music to Sticky Mike’s Frog Bar in Brighton on Monday , having kicked off his UK tour in Leeds last night. London on Tuesday is possibly gig highlight of the week however, Jordache is going to be opening up for the down-tempo psychedelia of the legendary High Places at Plan B. Full EU tour dates here . Dakin's taking the week off from recommending shows. He's busy shopping for just the right turkey for his Thanksgiving dinner, I guess. Personally, I recommend getting a bottle of Georges Duboeuf Beaujolais Nouveau to bring wherever you do end up going for Thanksgiving. It's the ultimate Thanksgiving wine. But enough booze talk. Let's go see [...]

In our review of tUnE-yArDs ’ w h o k i l l earlier this year, writer Caitlin Meyer speculated that Merrill Garbus’s resonant, emphatically atonal rhythmic and vocal loops would never appear on any Top 40 lists. But Saturday night’s show at First Avenue, which included every kind of sweepingly generalized demographic, reminded me of an article I read recently on NPR Music, which suggested that “indie” music has become “adult contemporary”; and it seems that Merrill Garbus might, for many Minnesotans, be the new Sara Bareilles or Kenny Chesney. With that in [...]

Photograph by Ashley Jordan Gordon words by : Marta Fieweger Ah, the portentous 11.11.11. A great day for prophetic dreams and a phantom limb, brought to you by Pat Jordache. I did not know much about Pat Jordache prior to the show, but what I had previously read was ultimately realized in their live performance. While I initially struggled to understand the text stating Jordache’s desire to embody “prophetic power of imagery dredged from the subconscious,” planting in me some concern that I would be [...]

Live This Month: November 2011 (Podcast #260) In Live This Month , we sample some of the great local and out-of-town bands performing in the coming month in the San Francisco Bay Area. The November concert schedule offers a chance to check out the artists behind some big recent releases, as bands like M83, Wild Flag, and Real Estate arrive in support of well-received new albums. Locally, a diverse assortment of acts are launching new releases of their own, including the classic-leaning rock and roll of Zodiac Death Valley, The Northern Key's singer-songwriter [...]
