Six years ago we posted about not seeing Patrick Park perform for six years. And six years later, we still haven't seen him nearly enough times nor given him nearly enough praise. Well, how's this (in resumé bullet form)...Patrick Park is our favorite pure singer-songwriter in Los AngelesCome What Will was our favorite album of 2010 and, hence, one of our favorite records of all time"Blackbird
[We approach the Sunset Junction-less weekend with plenty of music options. Meanwhile, if you didn't catch it, the Times had a story today on the aftermath ...] Your Friday fodder: ► That Dog reunites for the first of two-sold-out shows at the Troubadour. You'd be surprised (or possibly not) how many "new" co-ed bands around L.A. remind me of That Dog in its heyday (1991-97). ► Deadmau5 does the second of four big nights at the Hollywood Palladium. [...]
The rain will stop, the shows won't: ► Nineties faves Buffalo Tom headline the Troubadour behind their new album, "Skins," and the Heavenly States open. ► Thao Nguyen, who recently collaborated with Mirah on an album, brings her band Thao With the Get Down Stay Down to UCLA's Royce Hall. Morning Teleportation opens. ► The Stripminers — the new band featuring Brett Anderson of the Donnas and Paul Stinson of the Radishes (along with the likes of DJ Bonebrake, Holland Greco, Scrote and Bret [...]
I just finished my last EVER! Internal Medicine 30-hour call shift. Some of you are aware that I picked my internship program largely based on the number of 30-hour shifts because I correctly suspected these would be internship's most brutalizing feature. Of all my expectations regarding the past year, this one is the only one that was 100% fulfilled. In a National Geographic article published last year about the science of sleep , Harvard sleep authority Dr. Charles Czeisler notes: Going without sleep for 24 hours or getting [...]
[Birthday greetings go out today to Deep Sea Diver's Jessica Dobson ...] Tonight's top outings, and then some: ► The Cars' new album "Move Like This" — their first in 24 years — sounds like ... well, the Cars. Not an old or watered-down version, either, which is gratifying in a time aging hitmakers recycle themselves, or get nicked by younger hitmakers seeking to recycle ideas. On Tuesday, the day the album was released, the band kicked off a big tour in Seattle (setlist [...]
I don't know about you, but I personally have never been too great at relationships. For whatever reason, things have just never worked out long term for me. Now don't get me wrong, I've had my fair share of "relationships" and/or "flings," if you will, but I always find myself bored sometime within the first couple of months. I'm really not too bothered by this fact; however, we all know that it's nice to have someone to keep us warm at night every now and then. When I get into one of those "I really need a man" [...]

I feel like it is safe to say that we all have our so-called "guilty pleasures". It could be a musician that you don't necessarily like to admit to listening to, or a game of some sort maybe, or if you're Amber Valentine , it's booze! While I am a big fan of awful music, games, and booze, my guilty pleasure comes in the form of a television series by the name of The OC . For those of you don't know, The OC was one of those awful teen dramas that Fox airs every so often. Although [...]

The dimly-lit Hotel Café was comfortably full to watch singer-songwriter Haroula Rose play some songs off of her newly-released debut album, These Open Roads. I arrived a tad late, thanks in full to the glorious L.A. traffic, but was still able to see the majority of her set—and walked away impressed. Playing in support of Ms. Rose's record-release were talented singers in their own rights, Sara Lov, Patrick Park and Mariana Bell. From my standpoint this was a night of very solid music. Relationship inspired songs like "The Leaving Song" and "Another Breakup Ballad" were the [...]
[Happy birthday to U.K. songstress Laura Marling, all of 21 years old today ...] Tonight, a tip for every taste: ► Louisville electro-pop outfit the Pass (that's their video for "Walk Away") plays the Satellite, with locals Marvelous Toy and Airlines opening. ► Nashville singer-songwriter Tristen headlines the Echo, supported by Hi Ho Silver Oh and Marcus Very Ordinary . ► Some guy named Ozzy rocks the Gibson Amphitheatre. ► [...]

10. Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin – Let It Sway I was first introduced to SSLYBY when Amber Valentine and I ventured to Iowa for the very first Daytrotter Barnstormer Tour. I think the main reason I was so drawn to them was because they have a really cool name. Also, because at this particular show, they were selling t-shirts that had kitties on them and, as most people who know me are aware, I really like cats. All [...]

By Richard Parsons [We're pleased to welcome another guest contributor willing to share his favorites of 2010. - Rube] The best thing about sharing these year-end lists with friends is getting to see what I might have missed out on during the year, to get turned on to an album that has the potential to be another one that I can't live without. It's impossible to buy, or even listen to every new album that comes out in any given year. That's why it's important to borrow some trusted [...]
100Bands Poll: Choose A Band! If you are an avid concert goer like us, then you are familiar with those unfortunate times when two bands you want to see live are playing at different venues on the same day. In some cases it is an easy choice, but other times when you have an equal interest in both bands, it can be downright impossible to choose one. Riddled with indecision, I am asking you, dear reader, to take the matter into your own hands and [...]

Blackbird through the Dark Singer Songwriter Patrick Park has been writing songs since he was a kid in Colorado. His most recent album, Come What Will is a haunting melancholy folk album with some beautiful moments in writing & vocals. Park's voice is a melancholy, Elliott Smith-like heartbreaking sound, steered in a more traditional folk style. His album, Come What Will, released back in April 2010 was produced by Dave Trumfio (Built to Spill, Wilco.) Untethered to a label at the time, Park expressed an interesting and creative method of recording songs immediately after writing [...]

I've had this one sitting around for a little while, but now that we've received 100 degree weather and cooling thunderstorms on back-to-back days I figured it was a good time to post about an artist named "Spring Summer"...don't you agree? What can I say, I'm a man with a plan! Spring Summer , aka Jennifer Furches, caught my attention pretty quickly with her resonant and soulful voice overtop some lovely string work. I actually stumbled upon her music by accident...I was looking for a different artist on MySpace (forget who) and I clicked the wrong [...]

[Things to do this weekend: Wish David Byrne a happy birthday. Find a way to see one of those Flying Lotus shows. Use this post as a opportunity to remind folks that Patrick Park has a new album out.] As downright pretty as Patrick Park's third album is, "Come What Will," like its title, sometimes adheres to singer-songwritery aphorisms a little too closely for comfort. The 33-year-old songsmith couches his plaintive pleas for love, understanding and redemption in gorgeous acoustic guitar flavored by banjo, strings, lap [...]
Patrick Park grew up a son to a poet and folk/blues guitarist, inevitably helping make him into the gifted musician he is today. Park received acclaim in 2007 when his "Life Is A Song" was the last tune played on the series finale of The OC. "Blackbird Through The Dark," from the new Come What [...]

The word 'troubadour' doesn't get thrown around too much these days in the indie music world, but it's a description that fits Patrick Park to a tee. The Colorado-born singer/songwriter has always kept his act fairly self-contained, touring the country and opening for the likes of Gomez , Beth Orton, and Liz Phair with just an acoustic guitar and harmonica to support him. With a voice like Park's though, you don't need much else getting in the way, and his third full-length record Come What Will serves as proof positive. Sweet [...]

Venerdì sera. Guardare dopo tanto tempo l'ultimissima puntata di The OC e commuoversi un po'. Ed è già Sabato. Patrick Park - Life is a Song [mp3] Jacob Golden - On a Saturday [mp3] Related posts: Jacob Golden Went the distance, now I'm not gonna stop
