ACL 2012 coverage continues with a giant photo post for Friday. Here is the list of artists: Los Campesinos , Patrick Watson , Delta Spirit , Afghan Whigs , Alabama Shakes , Florence and the Machine and M83 . We'll have more on which bands did what, for sure. This I will tell you, Florence has pipes. Very impressive, as I recal early in her career being a bit of mess live. Alabama Shakes deserve their popularity. Patrick Watson (Wilson according to the lineup, awww) and his band may have [...]

Only a few more days away, and so many artists to talk about. I feel like we know a great deal about some of the large acts, so why not delve a bit more into a few of the lesser known peoples. For me, an artist you can't miss is Patrick Watson . He's going to be one of those artists that everyone who catches him will end up telling their friends about, and so the legend of Patrick is expected to begin at ACL this year. Mr. Watson is a Canadian [...]

Filed under: News Kevin Winter, Getty Arcade Fire and Celine Dion are joining forces. However, it's not a masterplan to destroy hipster minds everywhere. Rather, the pair will be part of a good cause -- a benefit concert to support the family of Denis Blanchette, a lighting technician who was shot and killed at a victory party earlier this month when the separatist [...]

Nothing has, upon this far from merry, merry morn, made me long to slosh about in the reservoirs building about London contemporarily quite like this from The Revival Hour . This revitalising creative coming together – staged in Rochester, NY – unites Sufjan Stevens' go-to guy DM Stith and John Mark Lapham of beardy Atlantic straddlers The Earlies in the most harmonious of artistic matrimonies. And Pyre, their first internet outing, is a soft and sly uplifter to recall Patrick Watson were the Canadian crooner ever again to drift anywhere near Close To Paradise . As heartwarming and [...]
Surrounding the release of their latest album back in May, Adventures in Your Own Backyard , Patrick Watson joined Andrew Bird for a few dates as openers on a short Northeastern tour. But over the summer, the band got back out on the road for a much more extensive tour, this time in the headlining spot. Patrick and his eponymous band have now claimed a personal record for most headlining dates in a year, with their tour schedule currently keeping them on the road for the remainder of 2012, save for a couple [...]

The songs on Patrick Watson's latest record will invariably send chills down the spine. The arrangements, instrumental and vocal performances, as well as the lyrics make up a breed of music completely different from that which comprises today's indie rock scene. It stands to reason because Watson is an accomplished musician whose knowledge and affinity for classical music is more than apparent in his songs. He and the group he plays with, who go collectively by the name Patrick Watson (all of the creativity lies in the music here), released their third album Adventures in Your Own Backyard [...]

The weather was looking fine and dandy but a little chilly on September 9th at Ottawa Folk Festival . Here are some of the photos " THAT " I got to take at the festivals: Decided to check out the "free" area at the festival with singer/songwriter workshops. The ones I saw were: Interview with Jill Hennessy Hellos and Goodbyes with Lucy Kaplansky (host), John Smith and Said The [...]

I think there was a misnomer in my Patrick Watson preview from two days ago; aimlessness. I assumed, unconvincingly, that Watson's catalog, all the while beautiful, was aimlessly wandering through ideas. As I sat idly along the sidelines of Philadelphia's World Cafe Live last night between University of Penn students and other likely academic newcomers to the area, Watson and his brand of truly exceptional musicians coasted through a very unassuming stage show. For a venue with seating only, the intimacy was truly unsuspecting, while the visual display also exceeded limited expectations. Graced with [...]
Tonight Philly synth pop band Instamatic will be bringing their electronic vibes to the North Star Bar for a melding of contemporary electo music with Chicago indie electronica band Gemini Club and Philly electro band The Bad Doctors. The 21+ show starts at 8 p.m. and tickets are available here for $10. Below, check out ... Continue reading

There's a little intricacy to Patrick Watson . Paired with his backing band, the ebb and flow of his catalog drifts through minimal changes and arches, but there's no clear shift from idea to idea. From his 2003 debut Just Another Ordinary Day to this year's Adventures In Your Own Backyard , you can spread your effort to try and catch every tempo shift, every tiny clang in the distance, but you'll still have the same, lofty idea: Watson sounds afloat. The catalog fits in an endless dream, cascading through images of rivers and [...]

Given that it's [...]

Photo source: Patricksloan.net After taking last week off (sorry to those of you that checked in and found nothing!), we're back with this week's suggested New York City concerts. Today is Labor Day (and the one and only Hannah Angst's birthday) which means that summertime is unofficially over. While that's sad news to all of us that won't have any more summer Fridays, there's plenty to be excited about. Like the fact that Chairlift , Azealia Banks , Patrick Watson , Sondre [...]

SHOWN ABOVE: Josh Jakq ‘Twas the first day of September and all through the wind, not chill was stirring though summer will soon end… Le sigh, dudes and dudettes. Summer is creeping its way out. The sweaters are on display and the kids are filling their backpacks. This is a bittersweet month. It’s the official transition from beach bonfires and flings, to snow boots and hot cocoa. I must say, I am looking forward to oversized cardigans, but summer breathes its warmth into the very depths of my soul! [...]

The video for “Adventures In Brooklyn,” off Adventures In Your Own Backyard (Domino), is a voyage into the Brooklyn of your hippest dreams. Patrick Watson’s piano cascades as the camera pans over abstract art, musty, restored buildings and small-scale acoustic concerts. It’s what your friend describes when he tells you, “You need to get up here, [...]
