After last month's 8tracks mix , I realized how easy it was to pull together some tracks and start making a monthly mix. We've blogged about tons of new releases, but we know it's hard to keep track of everything, so here are our favorites from this past month in a neat little bundle. Not all of them are new, and not all of them have been written about here, but this should give you some insight into what we've been listening to lately. We're very much hoping that patten 's excellent debut makes it into everyone's end of year lists. The press release for the album references both musique concrète and "2000s Funktion One bass pressure", and that's pretty spot on. It's a claustrophobic, oppressive record that manages to sound both oddly timeless and utterly modern. patten took his excellent live show to the Boiler Room last week. Watch the results below. Patten unloads a new re-edit, his second dose of mind-bending work to come out this week. "Why (csimin re-edit 1)" is code for "machine-like meat grinding textures with pop-locking tendencies for kids who can't hear good". That's what I got from it. Why, because I love his work.

Following the release of his debut full length GLAQJO XAACSSO via No Pain in Pop on 26 September, patten gave us a set of remixes from the likes of Sculptures and The Slow Revolt in the free JLAGQO CSOAAXS EP and now he has given us a second EP. Anagram fan patten has today released the second part of a two-part remix project, drawing on tracks from his excellent debut LP GLAQJO XAACSSO . QALOGJ OACSSXA , which features reworks from South London producer Halls and Finnish artist Ukkonen inter alia , is based on the same fantastic idea as its predecessor - give the remixers tiny snippets of tracks, rather than the full stems, and let them build something entirely their own.
