Patti Rothberg: Inside [ Purchase ] 1996 was an important year for me musically. It was the year I discovered music could mean something, that it wasn't just about being catchy and fun to listen to. As I've written on here before, my breakthrough came as a high schooler discovering Lisa Loeb's album "Tails" and it grabbed me so much and made me think "wow, is there more music like this out there?". Luckily for me, this was the start of the beautiful few years where female [...]

Patti Rothberg: Forgive Me [ Purchase ] The biggest part of saying you're sorry is so you can potentially get the offended party's forgiveness. Despite being the offended party in the scenario, this song became very pertinent to me after a break-up I had many years ago, when I felt like if I had just not played it so cool, if I had just not played hard to get, or had been faster in realizing I wanted to be with him, then maybe he wouldn't have gotten bored and moved [...]
We admit it. We don't watch American Idol , but over 20 million other people do every week. They can't be wrong, right? Well, whatever the case, the show is bringing out the big guns for Rock Week, two episodes that air this Tuesday and Wednesday. A hero to top hat makers everywhere, Guns N' Roses guitarist Slash is slated to mentor the four remaining contestants- Kris Allen, Danny Gokey, Allison Iraheta and Adam Lambert -in all things rock. He's certainly got the credentials to do so, and we trust the young hopefuls will take note. [...]

Patti Rothberg is not new to the music scene. The New Yorker has released several albums spanning back more than a decade. Her latest is 2008's Double Standard . If you were just to look at the album cover, you'd expect Rothberg's music to sound like Joan Jett or Chrissy Hynde. Fortunately, there's more depth and diversity in her than that. Rothberg is more college rock than hard rock. Songs like "PT Cruiser" and "Unconditional Love" are more suited to Juliana Hatfield comparisons than Jett. [...]

Since the Summer Olympics only come around once every 4 years and really, who knows if this blog will be here in another 4 years, I figured I owed it to all of us to jump on the bandwagon and do an "Ode to the Olympics" post. Unfortunately I don't have many sports themed songs so we'll just pretend that the titles actually reflect what the Olympic events are about. Aquatics Natalie Merchant "Diver Boy" (trad.) web Martial Arts [...]
