Legendary singer-songwriter Patti Smith will return on June 5th with her first album in eight years. Entitled Banga , the 12-track effort was recorded at Electric Lady Studios in New York City and produced by Smith and her band of Tony Shanahan, Jay Dee Daugherty, and long-time collaborator Lenny Kaye. In addition, Television frontman Tom Verlaine, Jack Petruzzelli, Smith's son Jackson and daughter Jesse Paris appear as featured guests. Patti Smith has announced the June 5th release of her eleventh studio album, Banga. This marks Smith's first collection of original material since 2004. 'April Fool,' the first single from Banga, (featuring Tom Verlaine) is available digitally today. Banga was recorded at Electric Lady Studios in New York City and produced by Patti Smith and her band: Tony Shanahan, Jay Dee Daugherty and her long-time collaborator Lenny Kaye. Following up the Beyoncé cover we saw heard from Sleigh Bells earlier, First Aid Kit have also offered up a cover song whilst visiting a radio station. Must be the Spring air fast approaching. As TwentyFourBit points out the Swedish duo visited French Radio station Le Mouv and laid down their interpretation of Patti Smith's 1979 track, "Dancing Barefoot". These two never cease to amaze me and bring a little shiver to my spine with their soaring vocals and harmonies. Beautiful stuff.

Hypnotic warbling from Suyama Kumiko - think Patti Smith thrown into the Studio Ghibli universe. Apparently the song can be found on this weird cassette . I wish I could hear more of this lady's stuff. There's an LP perpetually on ebay for $46. Donations welcome. chard.
