Not only is film geek Patton Oswalt the voice of our favourite cartoon rat, he's a big, fat screenwriting joke machine. His new album Werewolves and Lollipops is out now on Sub Pop...

First off, I wanted to thank Mike Panic again over at randomn3ss.com for the OiNK invite. I've not had a lot of time to browse yet but what I have seen it lives up to all the expectations. I also highly recommend his blog for all things random such as this. On to the music. Patton Oswalt – Clean Filth First off, this is DEFINITELY not safe for work if you don't [...]
This is not the Patton Oswalt from The King of Queens , this is the smart, funny Patton Oswalt that blows Kevin James out of the water.

The Note Books series features musicians discussing their literary side. Past contributors have included John Darnielle , John Vanderslice , and others. Patton Oswalt has been a busy man lately. Between promoting Ratatouille , the Pixar animated film he stars in and his comedy album, Werewolves and Lollipops (which came out earlier this month), he took the time to participate in the Largehearted Boy Note Books series. I know what you are thinking, "Patton Oswalt's not a musician." True, but he is signed to a [...]
The comedy album is having a very good year. I've selected 5 things I want you to hear: Paul F. Tompkins - "Elegant Balloons" What I love about Paul F. Tompkins is how friendly his comedy is. He makes me feel safe. Not in a timid way, just more like he's the opposite of the kind of comedian who's looking for people to make fun of. That's why he wears a three-piece suit every time he performs. He's a gentleman, and he's dressed up for the occasion of this his comedic performance. His album feels classical without feeling retro, it's [...]
MP3: Iron and Wine - "Boy With a Coin" from The Shepherd's Dog, out September 25 on Subpop. Psychedelic world music! The single contains two non-album bonus tracks: "Carried Home" and "Kingdom of the Animals." Additional recent Subpop mp3s after...

Good news - I'm now pretty much caught up with these weekly updates. Lots of good stuff this past week.... Five Most Interesting New Releases: Nick Drake : Family Tree (Tsunami) - I'm a huge fan of his three proper solo records. If you like melancholy singer-songwriters, I'm sure you are too. This collection includes 28 tracks that pre-date his first album. Recommended for hardcore fans/completists. Download a " Family Tree " podcast. Interpol : Our Love to Admire (Capitol) - See them at the Forum on 10/23. As [...]

I love Patton Oswalt , I really do. His growth as a comedian over the last many years is nothing short of astounding and his rising star since the release of Comedians Of Comed y is well deserved-but his is not an act without problems. The thing is, the more focused he gets-the sharper, the more political, and the angrier he gets-the more his act becomes a nerdier facsimile of David Cross 's act circa 2002. Between the double-disc Shut Up, You Fucking Baby and the follow-up [...]

Happy Easter! I searched all over my hard drive for relevant material for this entry, and I found a few things that may apply. First the only song on my computer with Easter in the title, "Easter Woman" by the Residents. In all honesty, in not a big Residents fan. While they're sometimes good, a lot of the time they were just Beefheart derivative, and diplayed a "weird for the sake of being weird" principle. That said, their discography makes the Fall's look brief, and I've only listened to their early material. I do find one of their albums to [...]

For those who celebrate Easter, here is a nice little comedy routine about PAAS by thepunkguy's favorite comedian Patton Oswalt : (note there is another bit before the easter egg one, so consider it, an easter egg?)
