Paul F. Tompkins The very funny Paul F. Tompkins returned to Comedy Central last month with a new one hour stand-up special entitled Laboring Under Delusions . The uncensored DVD version of Laboring Under Delusions is available now and it contains 30 minutes of content not seen during the original television broadcast. Before achieving success as a comedian, actor, and writer, Tompkins toiled in the ranks of the common working man, and he shares some of his incredible experiences [...]
Ben Lee had barely cracked the puberty code when he fronted renowned Aussie alt-rock combo Noise Addict, and as a well-weathered 16-year-old, he began his debut solo album, the mature yet still naive Grandpaw Would. Lee's third album, Breathing Tornados, garnered best male artist and album of the year nominations in Australia. After 2002's big-selling [...]

IVAN: Uncharacteristically clear skies heralded the second day of Outside Lands. Ana Tijoux IVAN: Chilean rapper Ana Tijoux made up for the previous night's lack of hip-hop satisfaction. Taking the stage with a band and DJ, her set combined jazzy, sample-laden grooves recalling Do You Want More?!!!??!-era Roots with a constant yet smooth flow akin to a Ghostface Killah. Rapping mostly in Spanish save for a brief English freestyle, Tijoux alternated from hard-hitting socio-political conscious rhymes like Suve to laid-back [...]

In the 1960s, San Francisco certainly seemed like the place to be. The hippie counterculture movement of that period, specifically in this city, is something that's popular among historians, musicians, politicians, travelers, ramblers, and all in-between. And that's not a surprise… it was a pretty radical time. Many people today often talk about wishing they could time travel to the '60s to spend a day with Jerry Garcia and Janis Joplin. Maybe I've just been hanging around too many hippies lately. Outside Lands marked its fourth year by showing that after all this time, San [...]
Weird podcasting coincidence today. I have been catching up on some of my podcasts today. I started with the November 16, 2010 episode of The Best Show on WFMU. Philly Boy Roy called in and his call is interrupted by the mega-bass alarm on his Swatch playing a song by The Hooters. I moved on [...]
Music video for Ted Leo and the Pharmacists' "Bottled In Cork" starring Paul F. Tompkins from the group's 2010 album, "The Brutalist Bricks."

Here's to starting off the week with a big smile and on dancing steps with Ted Leo and the Pharmacists ' latest brillinat video for " Bottled in Cork ". The video premiered today on funnyordie.com and in it the band gets convinced by Reginald VanVoorst, played by the hilarious Paul F. Tompkins, to stage their new album " The Brutalist Bricks " as a Broadway musical. Of course, what follows is a slew of intensive rehersals before the musical is performed to a round of applause and unanimous negative critiques. Oh, watch out for John Hodgman and Titus Andronicus' Patrick Stickles [...]
Sunday night. A long day at work. On the way home I stopped at Pat's to take in the fourth quarter of the NBA Finals game. I don't really care who wins, but I like to see my friends happy, so we'll say I'm rooting for the Celtics. Upon winning the game, these crazed Boston natives decided it would be cool and fun if we all walked down the street - in an overwhelmingly Spanish-speaking neighborhood in Los Angeles - to a bar, where we could all cheers the Celtics and taunt Lakers fans. This, of course, was the bright [...]

Sorry about the lack of update today. I worked open-to-close and immediately drove across town to catch the Paul F. Tompkins show at Largo. I've never quite been a fan of the comedian, but I most definitely enjoyed the show tonight. Those of you who have had the misfortune of watching me mum my way through comedy shows in the past would be pleased to discover I actually possess a sense of humor. Who knew that all it would take for me to laugh in public would be to not put Sinbad or Laura Kightlinger on stage! Look, [...]

Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News Aimee Mann 's annual holiday shows will get a boost this year with help from Mr. and Mrs. Ben Gibbard . Tangerine Dream - "The Dream is Always the Same" I'm getting ready for a fight. I'm taping up my hands, and chalking up my hands. I'm splashing cold water on my face and I'm in a basement locker room. Where the paint on the concrete is so thick it's all smooth and soft looking. I'm looking in the mirror and I'm telling myself not to be scared. For some reason I know it's a two-way mirror, or is it a one-way mirror, there's someone behind it watching me, and I know that I'm putting on the act for [...]
I was really anxious to see/hear Paul F. Tompkins and Ted Leo do Donovan 's Atlantis when I heard it happened . And thanks to Steve Schroeder, I was not disappointed. Want the dollar store brand shirt I promised, Steve? Let me know. Paul F. Tompkins and Ted Leo - Atlantis (live)

Two of my favorite people that I kind of personally know thanks to Twitter except not really - Ted Leo and Paul F. Tompkins - recently teamed up to cover Donovan 's Atlantis recently . Whoever gets me the audio will get a shiny new prize. Well, a shiny prize. Well, a prize. Well, a dollar store brand T-shirt. Photo by Chris La Putt .
I am so sad that the goldmine that was holygoof.com is no more, apparently zapped by the site's host. The Holy Goof was a like a supernova: it appeared suddenly, was quite a spectacle, and disappeared as suddenly (that's what supernovas do, right?). I have not come across a finer audio comedy site, and my life — and iPod — is emptier without the fine comedy which the Holy Goof shared. So, for

Yesterday, I (Sean) shared my favourite songs of the year. Today the three of us talk in fewer words about our favourite albums. I've heard almost all of them and they're all fuckin' rad. Go buy some music for Christmas, late Hannukah, New Year, end-of-world, or your wedding night. DAN: Group Inerane - Guitars From Agadez (Music of Niger) (track: "Kuni Majagani") Frog Eyes - Tears of the Valedictorian [...]
bay area yuksters, today, according to recent tradition and this website , is comedy day in san francisco. 30 stand-up comics and a few assorted musical guests will perform - for free, and that's no joke - in golden gate park beginning at noon and running till around 5pm or so. you can find the lineup of performers and the schedule of acts here ; there are four "special guests" - unannounced performers (robin williams, perhaps?) lined up for the last slot of the day. it looks like a brilliant day out on the western end of the [...]
"Boy, that guy had some sunglasses." -- Tom on the ample shades of voice legend Gary Owens (not dead yet) "Only in Kentucky, as they say, right? You know how it goes down there. Apparently those sleaze medicines flow like water down there." -- Tom on the Paducah porn industry "I just can't wait tell my dad that his money didn't go to waste. One of the clockpunchers down at the box factory approves of my question." -- Marc Healy on Tom justifying his journalism education [...]
