In a business where so many "best of" albums seem more like generic cash grabs or straight up label fulfillments, legendary singer-songwriter Paul Simon is opting out of that cookie-cutter route and will instead take his new collection to a much more sincere and personal level. Songwriter , set for an October 24th release, will feature 32 remastered selections individually hand-picked by the man himself. As for the title and how the songs were selected, the always classy Simon recently told NME , "I think of myself as a songwriter first, [...]

Ah Betty ... how could you? Just a few weeks ago we were all bothered about yet another female celebrity caught naked, after someone hacked into her private cellphone stash. I still can't figure what's the problem - she took the pictures herself and obviously wanted somebody besides herself to see them (or else she could have just used a mirror to look at her own ass). Maybe she doesn't want us all to see these photos; maybe she just doesn't want us all to see these photos for free. Maybe she would rather [...]

As we noted in our recent profile of Crooked Still , the addition of the cello to the folk repertoire is relatively recent. Indeed, it would not be entirely wrong to credit founding member Rashaad Eggleston, who has since moved on to become a core member of stringfolk supergroup Fiddlers 4, with broadening these particular boundaries for a huge percentage of the folk audience. But of course the much larger trend towards experimental expansion and genre-blur in the indie world comes into play here, too, making the rock violinist (or the rock [...]

Paul Simon Songwriter is a selection of songs, chosen by the composer, as the best of his decades-long creative output. Some of these are well-known hits and others more obscure works, but all bear the distinct lyrical, melodic and rhythmic signature of Paul Simon, one of the great composers of popular song in the last 50 years. As Simon has said, "I think of myself as a songwriter first, the recording artist and performer in me follow in the writer's footsteps." Simon brought his own unique perspective on the nuances of his catalog in the assemblage of Songwriter, [...]

I, like most people lately, have taken some time to think about what happened a little over 10 years ago. I remember when I first heard the news. I was on the Embassy bus on the way home from school in Abidjan, Ivory Coast and an American guy who was a few years older than me had printed off a picture of the two towers in flames; I didn't believe it. I spent the next few hours using our painfully slow internet connection to search for news. What's hard for me to believe today is that I didn't see footage [...]

Paul Simon performs today on the 10th anniversary of 9/11 "Sound of Silence" A beautiful song for remembering the silence that tragically came about when so many lives were lost in this tragic and unnecessary attack
Earlier this morning, a ceremony was held at Ground Zero in Manhattan to commemorate the tenth anniversary of 9/11. President Barack Obama, former President George W. Bush, former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, and others were on hand to remember the tragic events that shook our nation 10 years ago. Along with the appearances from several political officials, Paul Simon performed a heart-wrenching take of his and Art Garfunkel's 1965 single, "The Sound of Silence. Simon was apparently supposed to perform "Bridge Over Troubled Water" but opted to do "The Sound of Silence" instead. It's safe to say that [...]
