Anyway, yes, day eleven means I couldn't resist the obvious option of turning the volume up a bit. Here are a selection of some mighty fine bands making lovely loud noises. Also, see, I do like music made post 1998. A Fight You Can't Win - Shout First/Loud Words Black International - [...]

GoldFlakePaint One of my favourite non-Scottish blogs, GoldFlakePaint celebrated their second birthday last week. To mark the occasion they have compiled a cracking wee compilation album featuring some of their favourite artists. Released on limited edition CD and as a free download, the compilation features tracks from some cracking artists, including a few Scottish acts such as PAWS, Sparrow & The Workshop and Loch Awe. You can download the album for free via Bandcamp , also while you're at it check out GoldFlakePaint's site as it comes highly recommended. <a href=" http://goldflakepaint.bandcamp .com/album/from-the-outside-lo oking-in">From The [...]
As this evening brings us yet another excellent Ides of Toad lineup at Henry's (it's starting pretty much now - run, you might make it!) I thought I should probably write out another one of those lists of upcoming stuff, just so it lodges in the back of your mind now, and then you can all flood down in your droves on the night, filling the bands with joy and making me an unspeakably rich man in the process. Well, it'd be nice if at least a few of you came anyway. This is where I feel I [...]

Ian and myself were down in Brighton for most of last week with The Great Escape, and that's pretty much what this podcast is about from start to finish. It's hardly a studied analysis of course - and I sincerely doubt you'd expect one - instead it's more of a chatter about the Brighton fun we've had and the people we've met. Scotland is actually rather isolated when it comes to music. Hence, I suppose, the importance of the local Scottish music community to bands and labels based up here. Nevertheless, it is really important to connect with [...]

Now if I had been super organised I would have had this post up much earlier today. Normally I write my Friday Freebies posts on a Thursday night whilst my good lady wife watches the soaps. Rather than sit in front of my computer all night (which funnily enough is what I have been doing this evening), I decided to head an see Behold, The Old Bear at Bloc. Bloody good it was too, even if I did I have to leave early to catch my train. Although I write a music blog I often feel that I am not [...]
What do you do when you have loads of ace videos to share, you lump them all in one post of course! First up we have up and coming Edinburgh outfit, Letters and their video for 'Older Motion Pictures', the title track of their debut EP which is out later this month. In case you somehow managed to avoid all of our plugging, the label that I co-run, Olive Grove Records has emerged from hibernation this week with the release of a new EP from The Son(s). The EP is [...]

The Nightcast. Yes, night. I am recording this at about two in the morning for the simple reason that for all I aim to do these once a week, on the weekend, once again it has been just plain impossible to actually get the damn thing done on the weekend just gone, so here I am squeezing it into the ungodly hours of Tuesday night. Well, Wednesday now. And of course I am off to The Great Escape in the morning. Actually, it already is the morning. Oh all right then, by the time this is [...]

This week's round up of the tracks I haven't had the space to post... Sarahjane Swan From: Dunbar, East Lothian, United Kingdom Is there no end to this girl's brilliance. She's churning out stonking tunes that stomp on anything in the charts and she's still awaiting [...]
La band lo-fi, garage pop-rock, Paws debutta sulla scozzese Fat Cat con un EP. Il 5 tracce "Misled Youth" vedrà la luce il prossimo 22 maggio, la title-track è in free-download. Ascolta e scarica l'MP3 : Paws - Misled Youth MP3: Paws - Misled Youth pubblicato su Indie For BUNNIES

So many new releases, so little time. Here are a few guaranteed to brighten up a Friday. Loving this new track, Yatton from Beak> in all its hypnotic, krautrock inspired glory. From a new album due in the summer. a In a similar vein, Arc In Round's self-titled debut LP, being released June 26, by La Société Expéditionnaire , reflects a sensibility garnered from endless hours of studio tracking and hypnotic experimentation - think Stereolab meets Broadcast with the [...]

i just googled "random," and this dog photo was like the 6th thing. so, i went with it. its funny, times are a changing in the music blog world. a year or so ago, people were offering up songs with pretty much every email. nowadays, its just news and tour dates. honestly, if youre in a band, and more or less a local one at that, do yourself a favor and include a song to share. bloggers are so much more willing to report on you if they can actually hear what you sound like. its not rocket science. anyway, [...]
PAWS ANNOUNCE 'MISLED YOUTH' EP DUE FOR RELEASE ON MAY 22ND DOWNLOAD THE TITLE TRACK HERE CHECK OUT A VIDEO OF THE SONG 'BAINZ' HERE PAWS bash out infectious, lo-fi, garage pop-rock that can quickly shift from cute melancholia to an unnerving territorial roar. On top of the pulsating fuzzy noise the 3 piece produce, sit dreamy melodies that bare the bones of their author. Lyrical topics slide between sarcastic self-analysis and, onto more so than often, brutal home truths. Their energetic live show highlights [...]

Unlike my fellow blogger, The Pop Cop , I am stupidly excited about today. Not since about 1997 when I queued to get tickets to see Blur at the Barrowlands, has there been an event that I have been happy to haul myself out of bed at an ungodly hour to get down and in line. But this morning I will be leaving the house just after half seven to go an stand outside my favourite record store, Love Music to pick up some of the exclusive 'goodies' which are being released as part of this years [...]
Record Store (shop, shop, it's called a fucking SHOP!) Day is always bad news for my cash reserves. I am not, I have to confess, all that enticed by the exclusives, as honestly I find that all a bit gimmicky and pointless, but I do like the idea of encouraging people back into shops and reminding people what a pleasure it is to spend hours poking around through racks of records. Music is a personal, physical thing for me - it involves the sense, of course it's physical! - and gigs and community events like Record Store Day [...]

I think it's been a few weeks since I posted up a news post, so without further a do here's another news post. This time round the post has a bit of a feline touch to it, mainly because I am going to ramble about bits and bobs from the Scottish contingent on FatCat Records. To kick it all off we have some new live dates from The Twilight Sad. The band are currently mid way through their European tour and they've just announced a couple of UK dates in May and June, which includes an appearance at [...]

Record Store Day is a very, very good thing. Getting folk down to their local record shop in the hope they will support all year round. This year marks the first ever RSD for Song, by Toad neighbours Vox Box Music. The shop is a real labour of love for Darren and George who run it, and they have always been more than happy to stock anything from the label. They are good people and their shop consistently has an amazing and eclectic selection. To celebrate their first ever RSD our pals at Gerry Loves Records and I [...]

There are two main things happening this week, as far as I can tell. One is the above-mentioned Ides of Toad gig of course, and the other is Record Store Day. I am ambivalent about Record Store Day, I have to confess, as it seems to encourage the worst kind of scalping and eBay profiteering, and it also seems like a poor apology for not spending more time in record shops year round. But at the same time it can be a really nice day, and encourages people back into shops with some really nice, limited edition products. [...]

Actually, I don't know if I love Audio Antihero or secretly hate them. I've met Jamie only the once, and he seemed like a bloody lovely guy, but then he did come up with the record label motto "Specialists in Commercial Suicide" , of which I will forever be just a little bit jealous. I mean, I love "Gin and Swearing" , and indeed our new t-shirt slogan "Swearing at You on the Internet Since 20043 , but "Specialists in Commercial Suicide" ... it still just has the edge somehow. Bastard! And [...]
